ABlackboard Course AccessYou are given instructor access toBlackboard sites based on Banner(the ODU system). If you aren’tcorrectly assigned as the instructor,contact your department orprogram coordinator immediately.Before You CopyMore often than not, instructors copy content and settings into their newBlackboard site from a prior semester. Course copying duplicates materials andmenus, so it’s best to remove the new site’s default menu, to prevent having twosets of the same links.1.2.3.4.5.New faculty and adjuncts won’t seeold Blackboard sites at first. Again,contact your department to beadded as a TA or to find out whichBlackboard site to reuse.Log into Blackboard (www.blackboard.odu.edu)Go to CoursesLocate your new course site (e.g., search for 202110.)Open the new course siteSet Edit Mode is: to ON (upper right menu)Delete Default Course Menu Links (New Site)1. Go to the Course Menu!2. Leave Home Page as is3.4.5.6.Delete Blank orUnused LinksClick each menu link’s options arrow (hover for the arrow to appear)Select DeleteClick Delete this menu itemClick Delete, when prompted againRepeat these steps for the remaining menu links that you will copy in fromanother course. For example, delete the blank Assignments link before copying inAssignments. BAssignments & TestsCopy Your Old Course SitePerform the Course Copy process in the prior Blackboard site. New faculty and adjunctsmust request access to the old site first. The prior instructor can add you as a TA to theirsite, or contact your department.1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.10.!Open the old course site (e.g., 202020 SPRING )Go to Control PanelExpand Packages and UtilitiesSelect Course CopyOn the Copy Course page, go to Select Copy Options sectionBy Destination Course ID, click BrowseLocate your new course on the Courses pop-up (search by CRN, if needed)Click SubmitUnder Select Course Materials, click Select All(Optional) Uncheck Announcements, unless you will reuse the previousterm’s announcementsChoose “Select All” during the firstCourse Copy, because assignmentsand tests require multiple areas: Grade Center columns Content areas Tests, Surveys, and PoolsIf you must re-copy exams orassignments, then individuallyselect those areas.Teaching Two SectionsIf you have multiple Blackboardsites for a course, Course Copyinto one section, prepare it, thencopy the new site into othersections—this saves time andeffort.11. Under Discussion Board, select “Include only the forums, with no starterposts” to prevent copying old student posts12. Click Submit13. Wait for the confirmation notificationIt may take up to 24 hours for the course copy to complete. Then update the settings for the new term, as applicable:Verify menu links andcontent aren’t hidden(use Student Preview)Change Assignmentand Test due datesand availabilityAdd Announcementsor edit/deletecopied onesClear prior student activityfrom Discussion Boards,Groups, Blogs, or WikisClean out theGrade CenterAdjust Date Management (Due Dates/Availability)The content and assignments in Blackboard may be hidden from students until youchange all dates to the new semester. Blackboard Blackboard is a tool that allows faculty to add resources for students to access online to enhance teaching and learning. If you are enrolled in a class, you are automatically enrolled in Blackboard. All your courses will appear on your home page. For first time users, please follow the instructions below to access Blackboard.
