OverviewArchitectThe Betsy-South Beach joins the original work oftwo architecture giants, L. Murray Dixon, whoseBetsy Ross Hotel is the sole example of FloridaGeorgian architecture in the area, and HenryHohauser, renowned architect for the CarltonHotel, best known for his quintessential Art Decostyling. Allan T. Shulman, the highly regardedMiami architect with a distinguished record ofhistoric preservation, served as the architect ofrecord for the 2016 expansion, which connectedthe buildings as one unified hotel.Interior DesignWith visionary direction from Italian designersDiamante Pedersoli (private residences for RalphLauren) and Carmelina Santoro, The BetsySouth Beach embraces the natural heritage of itslocation to offer a timeless style. In the Colonialwing, dark wood Venetian blinds cover floor-toceiling windows that reflect light off the AtlanticOcean and ensure a guest-to-city transparencythat brings the outside in by day, and the insideout by night. Lighting fixtures include FortunySheherazade chandeliers hanging from cofferedceilings complemented by colonial style fans andother custom design reminiscent of world culture.Historical terrazzo flooring is accented with naturalfiber area rugs surrounding seating areas that havea comfortable, residential feel of a home owned bya global traveler in the British Colonial era. Zebraframed mirrors, coffee table art books, a publicpoetry library with vintage typewriter, and woodchess sets give the property an international feel. The public spaces in the Art Deco wing echo theoverall beach-chic theme with similar hues, walnutwood floors, and raffia displays, paying homageto the building’s historical time period. Customdesigned furniture and fixtures adorn the multifunctional spaces with a diverse blend of wickerand teak bases fused with decorative brass andmirrored features. Hand-selected velvet, cotton, and linen fabrics bring gentleness to the pieces insoft, ocean inspired palettes.
