WEDNESDAY 26 September 2018 TERM 3A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPALDear Parents/CarersThere is much to celebrate at Dubbo West Public School this fortnight. The end of Term 3 has seenNAPLAN results returned, NAIDOC week Public Speaking District and Regional finals, Western RegionAthle cs, PBL reward winners and 100% a endance celebrated.NAPLAN assesses the key areas of Literacy and Numeracy. It provides parents and educators with asnapshot of how students are progressing – individually, as part of their school community, and againstna onal standards that have been agreed upon by all state and territory governments. If you are theparent of a student in Years 3 or 5, you will have received an individual report of your child’s results forthe NAPLAN tests they sat in May. 2018 is the first year some students took NAPLAN in an online format.We did not par cipate in the online format for this year but will do so in 2020.NAIDOC Public Speaking was well represented this year with Miss Meredith taking four teams to theBanglamalanha Centre in Arthur Street to compete against our district schools. Tyson Salt andHazel Livingston won the day and they are currently represen ng our school at the regional finals today.We wish them luck.Western Region Athle cs saw four students represent Dubbo West PublicSchool and these students par cipated with sportsmanship and commitment.Amy Barton is to be congratulated as she broke her PB by three metres winningthe senior girls shot put and gaining a spot at the state athle cs tles next term.Congratula ons Amy.PBL reward winners and 100% a endance is being celebrated at the end of thisweek with many students being rewarded for being STAR’s.This past week we also celebrated a neon theme disco with our school raising 1300 for the Hear OurHeart bus. Well done to our school community for suppor ng such a worthy cause.Thankyou to our school community for being so suppor ve over the past few weeks whilst Mrs Day hasbeen on leave.Have a safe and res ul holiday and remember that imagina on is the highest kite you can fly.See you in Term 4. Regional Premier’s Spelling Bee FinalLast Thursday we were very proud to have our school host a Regional Premier’s Spelling Bee final in thehall. There were 20 schools represented with a total of 77 students compe ng in either the Junior (Stage2) compe on or the Senior (Stage 3) compe on.Students came from the following schools: Trangie Central School, Dubbo South Public School, To enhamCentral School, Buninyong Public School, Baradine Central School, Warren Central School, Orana HeightsPublic School, Cobar Public School, Narromine Public School, Parkes Public school, Coonabarabran PublicSchool, Tullamore Central School, Parkes East Public School, Condobolin Public School, Nyngan PublicSchool, Eumungerie Public School, Middleton Public School, Mendooran Public School, Dubbo School ofDistance Educa on and Dubbo West Public School.Students at our school ran a class compe on to find their best spellers and those students then entereda school semi‐final compe on. The two top spellers in both Stage 2 and Stage 3 then competed in theRegional Compe on. Congratula ons to Rory Cameron 5/6L, Shae Webber 6G, Indiana Kea ng 3G andBailey Fisher 3G for reaching the Regional Finals and doing a marvellous effort. Some of the words werequite tricky and would test a lot of us.The Announcer, Ms Di Reichelt stated that she believed that the standard of spelling in the Compe onwas outstanding as each Stage went into the seventh Round before a winner was determined. Thewinners will now go on to compete in Sydney later in the year.Well done to all the students who competed on the day.
