LKM7000 Strike InstallationFor this application the LKM7000 is installed on a single hollow metal door with a #2 strike,however the instructions apply to any strike. Please note Lockmasters has stainlesssteel strikes exclusively for the LKM7000 family of locks.Step 1 – Temporarily Installing the StrikeStep 1A – Position the center of the strike 43” on the door frame above the finished floor.NOTE: The inside base plate should not extend beyond the edge of the door.Step 1B – Mark the top and bottom position of the strike as well as the oversizedalignment hole in the center of the strike.1a - Strike - Center Hole 43” from finished floor.Tip: double stick tape the strike intoposition to mark and punch.1b - Strike - Mark the top & bottom of strike.1b - Strike - Mark center hole.Step 2 – Center punch & drill alignment/center holeStep 2a – Center punch and drill a pilot hole with a #25 drill bit. Use an 10-24 tap andtap the center alignment hole. Attach the strike to the door frame with the 10-24x1” panhead machine screw provided and tighten into the center hole only. (Figure 1)(Figure 1) ALIGNMENT HOLEAttach the strike to the door frame by installingonly 1 screw at this time into the center hole usingthe truss head screw.Tip: use an automatic center punch for more precise punching.2a - Strike - With a #25 bit drill a pilot hole.2a - Strike - Tap alignment/center hole.2a - Strike - Center punch alignment/center hole.2a - Strike - Attach with 10-24x1” screw.Step 3 – Prepare the Installation TemplatesBegin by selecting the template that matches the appropriate door handing for theinstall. Templates are provided for both right and left hand doors. LKM7000 InstallationStep 4 – Position the Inside Base Plate TemplateClose the door and align the Inside Base Plate template over the strike and level withthe indicated horizontal level line on the template. Make sure to keep equal clearancearound the strike. Attach the template to the door with masking tape. NOTE: If thetemplate hits the strike. You can either reposition the template or loosen the strikescrew and adjust the strike position and retighten the screw.4 - Template - Center template & strike to allowclearance.Step 5 – Position the Front Plate TemplateStep 5A – Make a small mark on the door’s edge in line with the horizontal level line.Step 5B – Use the combination square to transfer that level line around the edge ofthe door.Step 5C – Use the combination square to extend that level line across the front ofthe door at least 9”. This establishes a horizontal level line from the back of the dooraround to the front.5a - Template - Extending Inside Base Plate (IBP)horizontal line to the edge of the door.5b - Template - Extending Inside Base Plate (IBP)horizontal line to the edge of the door.5c - Template - Extending level line around to thefront of the door.NOTE - FOR BEVELED DOOR EDGEIf the door has a beveled edge, establish the high side of the bevel using thecombination square. If it has a bevel the square must be flat against the door andflat against the high edge. You will see a gap between the door and the combinationsquare. LKM7000 InstallationPosition the Front Plate Template continuedStep 5D – Once the high side of a beveled edge door is established. Loosen thecombination square and position the rule to the vertical plumb line on the inside baseplate template and tighten the combination square. (Figure 3).(Figure 3) ESTABLISH VERTICAL PLUMB LINEOn the IBP template position the combinationsquare against the vertical plumb line.5d - Template - Determining distance of IBPvertical plumb line.5e - Template - Marking vertical plumb line on thefront side of the door5f - Template - Mark vertical plumb line on thefront of the door.Step 5E – Transfer the vertical level line by flipping the combination square to the otherside of the door and make two marks at the end of the rule approximately 6” apart.Step 5F – With the rule positioned on the marks draw the vertical plumb line at least 9”.This establishes a vertical plumb line on the outside of the door.Step 6 – Position the front plate template.Align the vertical and horizontal lines printed on the template where they intersect withthe vertical and horizontal lines drawn on the door. Tape the template to the door withmasking tape. LKM7000 InstallationStep 7 – Center punch and label holesStep 7A - Begin on the Inside Base Plate Template and use your hammer and centerpunch to mark “punch” the following: (1) A, clutch hole: (6) B, front plate attachingholes; (4) C, Inside Base Plate attaching holes; and (1) F, optional Wire Entry Hole- Punch only if you are utilizing one or more of the following: 12 or 24v dc AccessControl input, Monitoring the position of the Combination Lock Bolt, and Monitoringthe position of the LKM7000 Dead Bolt/Request to Exit (REX). Potentially (12) holes.Step 7B – Re-tape the template above the punched holes for easy reference. Labelall the hole diameters from the template to the corresponding the holes on the door forreference during drilling.7a - Center punch all applicable holes on IBPtemplateTip: When labeling the holes note the holesize next to the hole.7b - Move template and label holes for easyreference during drilling.Step 7C – Move to the front plate template, use your center punch to mark “punch” thefollowing (1) D, spindle hole and (6) E, front plate attaching holes.Step 7D - Re-tape the template above the punched holes for easy reference. Label allthe hole diameters from the template to the corresponding the holes on the door forreference during drilling.7c - Center punch all applicable holes on FrontPlate templateHOLLOW DOOR NOTICE: Due to alignment issues, you shouldNEVER drill a through hole in a hollow door. LKM7000 InstallationStep 8 – Drill Pilot HolesStep 8A - We recommend using a 1/8” drill bit to pilot drill all center punched holes.8a- Drilling pilot holes on both sides of the door.Step 9 – Drill the Inside Base Plate side of the doorStep 9A - Drill the (1) A, clutch hole – use a 1-5/8” hole saw, drill through the outer skinof the door only. IMPORTANT NOTE: for solid wood doors - use a 1-5/8” wood cuttingbit. Use masking tape on the bit to mark a depth of 1-1/16”.Step 9B – Drill the (6) B, Front Plate attaching holes – use a 5/16” drill bit, drill throughthe outer skin of the door only. IMPORTANT NOTE: Solid wood doors - use a 5/16” woodcutting bit. Use masking tape on the bit to mark a depth of 1-1/2”.Step 9C – Drill the (4) C, Inside Base Plate attaching holes – use a 13/64”drill bit, drillthrough the outer skin of the door only. Please note, this drill bit dimension is larger thenspecified on the template for ease of threading screws into hollow metal. IMPORTANTNOTE: Solid wood doors - use a 3/16” drill bit. Use masking tape on the bit to mark adepth of 1”.9 a-d - Drilling all the holes on IBP side of thedoor.Step 9D – OPTIONAL (1) F, Wire Entry hole – use a 5/16” drill bit, drill through the outerskin of the door into the internal raceway. This applies to solid wood doors as well.9 a-d - IBP holes drilledStep 10 – Drill the Front Plate Side of the doorStep 10A – Drill the (1) D, Spindle hole – use a ¾” hole saw, drill through the outer skinof the door only. IMPORTANT NOTE: Solid wood doors - use a ¾” wood cutting bit anddrill until it connects to the (A) Clutch hole.Step 10B – Drill the (6) E, Front Plate attaching holes – use a 5/8” hole saw, drill throughthe outer skin only. IMPORTANT NOTE: Solid wood doors – use a 5/8” wood cutting bitand drill to a depth of at least 9/16” and connect to the previously drilled 5/16”(B) FrontPlate attaching holes.10 a-b - FP holes drilled127000INSTCopyright Lockmasters, Inc. 5/25/11

LKM7000 InstallationStep 11 – Prep all drilled holesStep 11A - Use the debur stone to debur all drilled holes.Step 11B - Pre-thread all (4) C Inside Base Plate attaching holes – using one of thePhillips head thread forming screws (F). A #2 square drive bit works well with thescrews.11a - Debur all drilled holes11b - Pre-thread all (4) C holes.Step 12 – Attach the Lever Handle to the Front PlateStep 12A – Attach the lever handle correctly depending on the direction of the doorswing. The handle will always point toward the hinge side of the door. (Figure 5)12a - Place lever handle on front plate.(Figure 5) DIRECTION OF THE LEVER HANDLEThe handle will always point toward the hinge side of the door.Step 12B – Place the split washer (G) onto the ¼”-20x1 ¾” socket head machinescrew (G) insert through the back of the Front Plate and thread it into the lever handle.Step 12C – Secure the screw tightly using the 3/16” T-Handle hex wrench.7000INSTCopyright Lockmasters, Inc. 5/25/1112b- Place split washer & screw into front plateinto lever handle12c - Secure the screw13

LKM7000 InstallationIF STANDOFF KIT IS BEING USED - INSTALL NOWStand-offs are used to prevent a hollow metal door from compressing during installation.The kit is applied to the backside of the Front Plate.Take the (6) threaded set screws that come in the Stand-off kit and thread them into thebackside of Front Plate.Then thread the (6) Stand-off sleeves onto the exposed threads of the set screws untilmaking contact with the backside of the Front Plate.Stand-off Kit Install - thread set screws intobackside of front plate.Stand-off Kit Install - thread sleeves onto setscrewsStand-off Kits - available for 1 3/4” & 2” doors. Thisinstall was on an 1 3/4” doorStand-off Kit InstalledStep 13 – Attach the Front Plate to the doorStep 13A – On the front side of the door, seat the Front Plate into the (6) counter-boredE holes until flush and square with the door. Hold into position.Tip: To hold the Front Plate in position apply a piece ofdouble stick tape to the back. LKM7000 InstallationAttach the Front Plate to the door continuedStep 13B – Move to the Inside Base Plate side of the door tosecure the lower portion of the Front Plate. Place a finishingwasher (H) on each of the (2) ¼”-20x2” flat head Phillips screws(H) and insert into the (2) lower (B) holes. Tighten to a snug fit.STANDOFF KIT OPTION – if the Stand-off kit is installeduse the (2) shorter ¼-20 flat head Phillips screws suppliedwith the Stand-Off Kit instead of the longer (H) screws.13b - Move to IBP side and secure the bottom ofthe Front Plate.Step 14 – Remove the Inside Base Plate coverStep 14A – Use the 3/32” T-Handle hex wrench and remove all (4) 8-32x3/8” sockethead button screws.Step 14B – Retract the bolt by depressing and holding the exit handle.Step 14C - With a flathead pocket screwdriver insert under the cover, behind thehandle and rotate the screwdriver. The cover will release. Tilt the cover and slidethrough the handle to remove.14b - Press and hold the exit handle to retractthe bolt.14c - Take a flathead pocket screwdriver andinsert under the cover, behind the handle androtate.14a - Remove the (4) 8-32x3/8” socket head button screws from the IBP cover.14c - Insert a flathead screwdriver under thecover, behind the handle and rotate. The coverwill release. Tilt the cover and remove.DOOR WARNING – It is imperative that the door remains open duringinstallation of the LKM7000. If the door closes and latches while theback cover is removed the relockers will trigger into a lock-out.Step 15 – Measure the Spindle TubeStep 15A – On the inside of the door seat theInside Base Plate with the spindle tube goingthrough the A hole until flush against the doorand hold in position.Step 15B – Move to the front side of the door andmark the spindle tube flush with the Front Plate orcount the number of exposed grooves on thespindle tube. Remove the Inside Base Plate inorder to remove the spindle tube.7000INSTCopyright Lockmasters, Inc. 5/25/1115a- Insert IBP Spindle thru the A hole.15b - Mark the spindle flush with the Front Plate.15

LKM7000 InstallationStep 16 – Remove & Cut Spindle Tube to Correct LengthStep 16A – Use your snap ring pliers to remove the internal spindle tube retaining ring.Step 16B – Remove the spindle tube from the Inside Base Plate by pulling the spindletube through the Inside Base Plate then remove the remaining external spindle tuberetaining ring. Both spindle tube retaining rings need to be removed to ensure they arenot damaged.16a - Remove the internal & outer spindle retaining rings.NOTE – Do not cut or grind the spindle tubewith the spindle tube attached to the InsideBase Plate. Grit and dusk will collect on theinternal lubricant.16b - Remove the spindle from the IBP.16b - With snap ring pliers remove the outerspindle tube retaining ring from the spindle.Step 16C - Place the end of the spindle tube that will be discarded into a vise and tighten.DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN, THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SPINDLE TUBE ANDINTERFERE WITH THE OPERATION OF THE LOCK.16c - Place the end of the spindle tube to bediscarded into a vise and tighten.Step 16D – Use a hacksaw to cut the spindle tube (2) grooves below the mark orcounted depth. This is done so the spindle tube is flush with the front plate once allthe screws are tightened.NOTE: Make sure to debur and clear all metalshavings from the spindle tube use a fileand debur stone.Step 16E– Re-attach the external spindle tube retaining ring and re-insert the spindletube into the Inside Base Plate, make sure the grooves on the spindle tube align withthe tabs on the clutch cam and re-attach the internal spindle tube retaining ring with thesnap ring pliers.16d - Use a hacksaw to cut the spindle tube (2)grooves below the mark or counted depth.Clutch Cam Tabs16e - Re-attaching spindle167000INSTCopyright Lockmasters, Inc. 5/25/11

LKM7000 InstallationStep 17 – Use of Filler BlocksStep 17A – Insert the applicable filler block into the inside base plate before installation.Option 1 – If you are not utilizing Access Control or monitoring the bolt sensors, pushthe wire into the inside base plate. Insert the SOLID filler block (O).Option 2 – If using external conduit on the secure side of the door, insert the NOTCHEDFiller Block (O). Feed the Access Control & Bolt Sensors Wiring through the conduitand make connections (See Wiring diagram on page 19).17a - Inserting the correct filler block into the IBP.This installation used external conduit so thenotched filler block was needed - as described inOption 2.NOTE: Position the conduit snuggly against the notched filler block. DO NOT insertconduit directly into the inside base plate. It will interfere with bolt retraction.Correct position of the conduit against IBP.Option 3 – If the door is prepped with an internal raceway and the optional F, wire entryhole has been drilled use the Wire Routing Box (D) to conceal the Access Control &Bolt Sensors Wiring. LKM7000 InstallationStep 18 – Secure the Inside Base Plate to the doorIF HARDPLATE IS BEING USED - INSTALL NOWAlign the hard plate to the backside of Inside Base Plate and secure with double-sidedtape. Secure by inserting (2) of the metal thread forming screws (F) into the base plateholes (C) to hold the hard plate in position while securing the Inside Base Plate to thedoor (See Figure 6).IF hardplate is used.Step 18A – To ensure vibration does not loosen the screws over time, we provide apack of Liquid Thread Locker (M) for use on the (4) ¼-20x2 ½” socket head machinescrews (E) that are used to secure the Front Plate. Simply place a few drops of theliquid onto the threads prior to use.Step 18B – On the Inside Base Plate side of the door, permanently attach the (4)¼-20x2 ½” (E) screws. These (4) screws will go into the upper 4 (B) holes. (Seephoto). Snug only. After all (4) screws are inserted tighten the screws into the lock.STAND-OFF KIT OPTION – if Stand-off Kit is installed use the (4) shorter ¼-20 sockethead machine screws supplied in the Stand-off Kit, instead of the longer (E) screws.18a - Prepping IBP attaching screws with liquidthread locker (provided).Step 18C – Remove (2) (H) Phillips heads screws that were previously installed in step13b. Apply thread locker and re-install.Step 18D – Install the (4) (F) ¼” Phillips head thread forming screws into (4) C holes.HARDPLATE OPTION – If hardplate was installed install the (2) remaining (F)¼” Phillips head thread forming screws into (2) C holes.18b - Attaching IBP to the door.18c - Remove and apply liquid thread locker topre-installed screws holding the front plate intoposition and re-install.(Figure 6) - HARDPLATE ALIGNMENT IF USED.Use double-sided tape and align the hardplate with the IBP.1818d - Secure the front plate with the remainingscrews through the IBP.7000INSTCopyright Lockmasters, Inc. 5/25/11

LKM7000 InstallationOPTIONALStep 19 – Solenoid Activation ACCESS CONTROLStep 19A – Access Control IntegrationThe LKM7000 is shipped with an internal solenoid requiring 24v dc to retract the solenoidpin. OPTIONAL - In order to use a 12v dc access control unit you’ll need to peel backthe blue heat shrink material away and cut the RESISTOR out of the circuit. (See Photoright)OPTIONAL - Removing the RESISTOR to use12v dc access controlRESISTORStep 19B – When an Access Control system is being used in conjunction with theLKM7000 it will be necessary to release the Access Control Solenoid Plugger. Thisis done by removing the thumb screw located on the top of the Access Control Block.(See Figure 7 for the location of the Access Control Block.)19a - Make the wire connections for the accesscontrol.NOTE: The solenoid activation screw SHOULD NOT be removed until the AccessControl Unit has been completely installed. If the screw is removed without theAccess Control System online and the door closes an immediate lock-out willoccur.(Figure 7) - SOLENOID ACTIVATION SCREWNOTE: This solenoid is NOT designed for continuous duty.19b - Locate the Solenoid Activation Screwlocated in the IBP and remove to release theAccess Control Solenoid Plugger.19b - Close UpSolenoid Specifications12 or 24v dc minimum amperage 199 miliamps7000INSTCopyright Lockmasters, Inc. 5/25/1119

LKM7000 InstallationStep 19C – Combination Lock Sensor & LKM7000 DeadboltSensor/REXThe combination lock bolt sensor monitors the extension and retraction of thecombination lock bolt. The LKM7000 Deadbolt Sensor/REX can be used to monitorthe LKM7000 Deadbolt . This can also be used as a Request to Exit switch to shuntan alarm system. LKM7000 InstallationStep 22 - Install the Combination LockStep 22a - Remove Warning LabelRemove the internal warning label in the Inside Base Plate.Step 22b - When integrating a combination lock package with the LKM7000 follow thelock manufacturer’s instructions to install properly.22a - Remove warning label from IBP.22 - Lock body installed inside the LKM7000 IBPStep 23 – Re-attach the Inside Base Plate CoverStep 23A – Insert the Change Key Hole Plug (N) into the Change Key Hole. Now is the time to make adjustments to thestrike if necessary. Minor adjustments can be made to the strike by either:1. Loosen the center alignment screw.2. Add paper shims provided with the strike.3. File the adjustment tabs cast into the strike.Once the strike is correctly aligned with the Inside Base Plate, tighten the alignmentscrew.24a - Close the door and check strike align.Step 24B – Secure the Strike.
