CAPE COAST TECHNICALUNIVERSITYINAUGURATES DESIGNAND INNOVATIONHUBThe Cape Coast Technical University has inaugurateda Design and Innovation Hub at a ceremony held onth25 August, 2020 at the University. Welcoming theaudience to the inauguration, the Head of MechanicalEngineering Department, Dr. Kwame Anane-Feninsaid the Hub is a Focus Initiative as a direct responseto the Vice-Chancellor's Vision of transforming theUniversity into a destination of innovation andentrepreneurship. He assured the audience that alltechnologies developed by the University would bepowered by renewable energy sources which alignwith the Niche Area of the University.According to Dr. Kwame Anane-Fenin, the innovationhub will adopt the strategy of “creating, utilizing andtransforming principles” which consist of creating anidea; utilizing available resources to develop ideas,and transforming the idea into a real product thatcould be sold. As part of the operation, the Hub wouldhelp encourage interdisciplinary approaches toproblem solving, provide a makers pace for studentsto explore their innovative potentials, and promote theuse of renewable energy technologies.Mr. Fredrick Ken Appiah, the ChiefProgrammes Officer in-Charge ofRenewable Energy at the EnergyCommission-Accra, who was theinvited guest applauded theMechanical Engineering Departmentand the students for such initiative.He was of the view that Governmentcollaborating and supporting theuniversities in terms of researchwould help students and the facultyto come out with more innovativeideas.Rt. Rev. Ing. Prof. Joshua Danso Owusu-Sekeyre,the Vice Chancellor of the University, was hopefulthat when government provides TechnicalUniversities with enough funding, the Universitywould be able to match-up with other developedcountries. “The know-how is there, but the capacityin terms of equipment is the major challenge. Hereiterated that if the government is able to support uswith the needed capacity, more innovative ideaswould be implemented”, he stressed.DR. MANAGEMENT INTERACTS WITH OUTGOING(2019/2020) NATIONAL SERVICE PERSONNELSeptember 1, 2020The Management of Cape Coast Technical University interacted with the outgoing NationalService Personnel (2019/2020) of the University.The interaction which was held at the Library Conference Room of the University, was toofficially congratulate the 2019/2020 National Service Personnel and also bid them farewellfor their dedicated service to the University.Addressing the personnel, the Vice-Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Ing. Prof. Joshua Danso OwusuSekyere, praised the personnel for their service towards the development of the University."Management of the University is proud of you and appreciates your diligent service to theUniversity", he added.He advised the outgoing service personnel to go into the world of work with honesty andintegrity. "Whatever good work you find to do, be committed and work hard to prove the worthof your University education", the Vice-Chancellor stated.Some National Service Personnelpresent shared their service experiences and also made suggestionstowards the growth and developmentof the University. Managementassured them that concerns raisedwould be addressed.The event was attended by the ProVice-Chancellor, the Registrar, Deansof various Schools, the acting Directorof Public Affairs and Heads ofDepartment among others also tookthe opportunity to advice thepersonnel to uphold good moralvalues and eschew social vices.

GHANA STANDARDS AUTHORITY (GSA) INSPECTSHAND WASHING PROMPTING MACHINE AT CCTUThe Ghana Standards Authority; a National Statutory Body responsible for Inspection, Certification, Testing,Standards and Metrology, on Wednesday, 5th August, 2020, inspected a Hand Washing Prompting Machineinvented by the School of Engineering, CCTU . One core mandate of the agency is to promote standardizationfor the improvement of quality goods, services and sound management practice in industries and publicinstitutions in Ghana.Mr. Sumaila Abubakar; a staff from the School ofEngineering explained the various phases of themachine to a team from GSA. According to him,the machine comprises the prompter, the securityaspect and the touchless aspect. He furtherexplained that the prompting aspect of themachine welcomes anyone who enters the facilityand urges them to observe the social distancingprotocols while the security aspect stops one fromentering the offices until one performs theprotocols. The third phase, which is the touchlessone, enables one to perform the protocols withouttouching anything.Mr. Sumaila Abubakar disclosed to the team that theSchool's motive behind this great innovation is inresponse to solving challenges confronted by societyduring this Pandemic. He was enthusiastic the devicewill go a long way to help fight Covid-19.Madam Adelaide Akins, Head of Mechanical Laboratory (GSA) and Mr.Noble Williams Lartey from the Electrical Laboratory Directorate (GSA)inspected the project and observed with keen interest. A er severalinterroga ons and observa ons, the team recommended the Unit forins tu ons, agencies and the general public. Per the Interna onalElectro Technical Standards adopted by Ghana Standards Authority,ACT 6335; which is the general household appliance standards, theMADAM ADELAIDE AKINS OBSERVINGTHE LAY DOWN PROTOCOLSUnit meets the requirements, hence, recommended for the generalpublic.
