Accu-Tab System OverviewThe Accu-Tab system is the total solu on for all your chlorina on needs. From the smallestcommercial pool installa on to large-scale water parks, we manufacture high-quality tabletchlorina on systems that stand up to tough water condi ons and rigorous industry and government standards—safely, simply, accurately, and with minimal maintenance. Our pioneering work in erosion chlorinators and three-inch calcium hypochlorite tablets hasresulted in easy-to-use calcium hypochlorite tablet-based systems built on advanced engineering and proprietary tablet technology. Accu-Tab SystemPrecisely engineered yet affordable, the robust Accu-Tab system is a recognized leader in chlorina on. All aqua cs system models are listed NSF/ANSI 50 to stand up to the challenges ofcommercial pool environments. Here’s why so many commercial pool operators are choosingthe Accu-Tab system over other methods of chlorina on:SaferSimply place Accu-Tab tablets into the chlorinator. There are no gas leaks or bleach spills andno special containment measures or elaborate safety equipment. In addi on, Accu-Tab tablets are manufactured to high standards of chemical purity and physical integrity.SimplerUnlike gas or bleach, Accu-Tab tablets are easy to store and handle. They are shipped in convenient 55-pound pails; each is roughly equivalent to a large drum of bleach weighing 400pounds.More AccurateThe Accu-Tab system is more consistent than bleach and easier to maintain. The system—chlorinator and tablets—automa cally delivers the precise level of chlorine you need.Rugged Accu-Tab chlorina on systems stand up to challenging commercial environments andrigorous government requirements. NSF-listed, our tablet-based chlorinators are designed toconsistently and accurately deliver the chlorine you need to kill bacteria, control algae, anddestroy organic contaminants for water that’s clean, sparkling, and sanitary—day aGer day, allseason long. Water balance is easy, maintenance is reduced to once a year in most cases, andthe handling, storage, and safety issues of gas and bleach are eliminated.4

Applica'onsClean, safer water is the primary goal for every commercial chlorina on system, but each applica on also has specific challenges that are easily met by the Accu-Tab system.SpasEliminates the safety and handling concerns of gas and bleach; reduces scale build-up througha scale inhibitor in our Accu-Tab Blue SI tablets; reduces cleaning and maintenance of the chlorinator to typically once a year.Water ParksAvoids the corrosion of equipment and pool surfaces;eliminates fluctua ons in chlorina on levels; reducescleaning and maintenance of the chlorinator to typicallyonce a year.Compe''ve PoolsProvides consistent delivery to help reduce fluctua onsin chlorina on levels; avoids high TDS levels; minimizes fumes and offensive odors.ResortsAvoids over-stabiliza on; reduces product degrada on (loss of chlorine strength); eliminatesproduct waste caused by non-uniform erosion.Municipal Pools/Spray GroundsReduces the frequency and amount of required water-balance adjustments; eliminates thesafety and handling concerns of gas and bleach; recovers quickly from chlorine level insufficiencies.Health Clubs/Hotels/Motels/Apartments and CondosAvoids over-stabiliza on; reducesfluctua ons in chlorina on levels;recovers quickly from chlorine levelinsufficiencies.5

Accu-Tab Blue SI TabletsAxiall manufactures Accu-Tab Blue SI (scale inhibitor) tablets specifically formulated to helpprevent scale forma on inside the chlorina on chamber, especially in hard-water areas. The three-inch Accu-Tab calcium hypochlorite tablets are formulated to perform reliably andconsistently. The tablets are compressed to exac ng or proprietary specifica ons, not formed, ensuring their physical integrity and elimina ng briLleness and extensive breakage. The resul ng tablets erode at a consistent pace. And because the tablets do not contain cyanuricacid, they’re ideal for use with indoor pools. No other tablet offers all of the benefits of an Accu-Tab tablet.Technology in the Tablet: 3 ⅛” diameter x 1 ⅜” tall Pressed using a proprietary process that minimizes breakage Dis nguishing blue color—for safety to avoid mixing with incompa ble chemicals NSF-listed along with chlorinator With scale inhibitor Con nuous use maintains limited warranty of PowerBase chlorinator More than 20 years of proven technology behind every tablet!6

NSF OverviewManufacturers, regulators and consumers look to NSF Interna onal for the development ofpublic health standards and cer fica on programs that help protect the world’s food, water, consumer products and environment. Its mission is to protect and improve global humanhealth. As an independent, accredited organiza on, they develop standards, and test and cer fy products and systems. NSF also provides audi ng, educa on and risk management solu ons for public health and the environment. Feeders are cer fiedfor use only with chemicals recommended by the manufacturerof the feeder and cer fica on is void if different chemicalsare u lized. The Accu-Tab Commercial Pool Chlorina on System is NSF/ANSI Standard 50 cer fied as longas it is operated using only Accu-Tab 3-inch Blue or Blue SI calcium hypochlorite tablets.Use of any other tablets voids the System’s NSF lis ng, puQng the subject pool out of compliance with state and local health codes that rely upon NSF guidelines for automa c chlorinefeed systems. It may also cause a safety issue for the facility and the patrons.Accu-Tab Chlorinator warning label included on all units (in English, peel back for Spanish)7

How Accu-Tab Chlorinators Work– Erosion FeedAll Accu-Tab Chlorinators u lize erosion feed technology. Erosion feed enables the end user toprecisely control the chlorine delivery with or without a chemical controller. The chlorinatoritself is made of rugged PVC and has no moving parts. Because the tablets are eroded as opposed to being soaked or dissolved, the concentra on of the chlorine solu on remains consistent; this results in minimal maintenance and cleaning. The faster the water is flowingthrough the chlorinator the higher the lbs/hr of chlorine that will be delivered to the pool. Accu-Tab delivery curves show the rela onship between GPM flow and lbs/hr delivery. In early 2015 the Accu-Tab sieve plates in some chlorinator modelswere updated to include a new spiral design. These new plates s llu lize the principles of erosion feed, however, they enable higherdelivery rates to be achieved. See the Sizing sec on for more informa on.“Internal” Chlorinator Diagram:2015 sieve plate designIllustra'on Descrip'on (Accu-Tab Chlorinator)1. Accu-Tab tablets are placed on the sieve plate in the Accu-Tab chlorinator.2. Incoming untreated water enters the chlorinator from a side stream.3. The water rises through the holes in the sieve plate to reach the tablets.4. Tablets erode at a predictable rate according to the amount of water that enters the chlorinator; this allows for a consistent delivery rate.5. Chlorinator effluent (treated water) is returned to the main system flow with the appropriate amount of chlorine* Accu-Tab chlorinators cannot be pressurized. If the chlorinated solu on needs to feed in to apressurized return line then a PowerBase type system is required.8

How Accu-Tab Systems Work—PowerBase Pressure SystemsThe Accu-Tab erosion chlorinator is the heart of the PowerBase chlorina on system. Thesesystems allow the chlorinated solu on to be returned to the main return line of the pool usingan easy to install, skid mounted, plug-and-play system.Illustra'on Descrip'on (PowerBase Models 1030, 3070AT)1. When chlorine is required, filtered water enters chlorinator feed pipe from the pool2. The water passes through the flow meter and float valve3. Water, metered by the float valve, fills the center sec on of the chlorinator*as the level in the tank lowers the ball on the float valve drops which allows more water to enter the chlorinator4. Water channels through the holes in the sieve plate, eroding chlorine fromthe tablets5. The chlorinated water drains over the outside edge of the sieve plate and down into thesolu on tank6. The flow rate of solu on is controlled by the discharge control valve7. The solu on delivery pump injects the diluted chlorine solu on into the pool return line8. When the chemical controller calls for chlorine the solu on pump begins pumping thechlorinated solu on in to the pool return line.9. Overflow protec on is standard on each system. If the water level in the solu on tank hitsthe top level switch it will force the pump to run un l the water level is once again belowthe boLom level switch in order to prevent overflowing.9

If the water level in the solu on tank hitsthe top level switch it will force the pump to run un l the water level is once again belowthe boLom level switch in order to prevent overflowing. For models with a solenoid a thirdlevel switch, if ac vated, will close the solenoid valve to prevent addi onal water from entering the system.10

Accu-Tab Chlorina'on System Op'onsThere are a variety of installa on op ons to fit every applica on and budget. The most simple installa on uses only the Accu-Tab chlorinator and is installed using gravity feed or suc on return, as discussed below. For installa ons where a controller is u lized or it is necessary to inject the chlorine solu on in to a pressurized return line the PowerBase systems are preferred (as discussed on the nextpage). Finally the Accu-Tab 100 offers a cost effec ve solu on for the smaller HMAC market.Accu-Tab Models—OverviewBelow is a list of the available Chlorinator / PowerBase model op ons. These units are discussed inmore detail on the following pages.Gallon ra ngs / chlorine delivery are applicable for units manufactured a;er February 16, 2015 and are based on NSF cer fica on12

System SizingOPTION 1To properly size a chlorinator, you must know your state regula ons. State or local regula onscan be worded a number of different ways. The calcula on is slightly different depending onthe statute: Example calcula ons are shown on the next page.1. Chlorinator must be capable of X lbs AvCl per day per 10,000 gallons (states likeCalifornia, Florida, and Nevada)2. Chlorinator must be capable of X ppm per day (Texas)3. Chlorinator must be capable of chlorina ng return line at X ppm (New York)OPTION 2While it is always best to size a chlorinator based on your state regula ons, the formulas below can be used as guidelines in selec ng the correct model. These calcula ons are based onassump ons in chlorine demand and are recommenda ons only. Example calcula ons areshown on the next page.1. lbs/day Chlorine 2. To get the required lbs/hr of Chlorine:*where x number of hours of opera on/day The ppm in the formula above refers to the total ppm of chlorine required for the pool perday. If actual values are not known use the following assump ons: 2 ppm/day for INDOOR Pools 8 ppm/day for OUTDOOR Stabilized Pools (10-20 ppm CYA) 16 ppm/day for OUTDOOR Un-Stabilized Pools 50—80 ppm/day for SpasLBS OF CHLORINE LBS OF ACCU-TAB TABLETSAll delivery rates published for Accu-Tab use the 100%AvCl conven on. To get the usageof actual tablets you must mul ply the lbs/day or lbs/hr chlorine ra ng by 1.5. This isbecause cal-hypo is only 68% AvCl. When sizing a chlorinator it is recommended to checkthe lbs/day tablet usage so that the chlorinator can go 3-4 days without needing to berefilled. See the table on the next page.20

Calcula'on examples: Size for a 140,000 gallon outdoor pool:OPTION 11. Chlorinator must be capable of 3 lbs AvCl per day per 10,000 gallonsPowerBase 1030 has a delivery capacity of 2.8 lbs AvCl/hr so it is the appropriate model.2. Chlorinator capable of delivering 20 ppm AvCl per dayPowerBase 1030 has a delivery capacity of2.8lbs AvCl/hr so it is the appropriatemodel.3. Chlorinator must be capable of chlorina'ng at 10 ppmThis is another way of sta ng that the chlorinator must be capable of making the pool return water 10 ppm AvCl from 0ppm; it must deliver 10 ppm AvCl to the water returning tothe pool. Assuming a 4 hour turn over for our 140,000 gallon lazy river example:PowerBase 1030 has a delivery capacity of 2.8 lbsAvCl/hr so this would be on the extreme upper endof it’s capabili es. The 3070AT at a max rate of10.2 lbs/hr is the appropriate modelOPTION 21. LBS/DAY Chlorine using generic calcula'onAssuming an outdoor stabilized poolusing 8 PPM/day Chlorine:2. LBS/HR Chlorine calcula'onAssuming the pools runs for 10 hrs/day:To get tablet usage:21

In addition to checking the lbs/hr or lbs/day AvCl rating when sizing achlorinator it is recommended to check the lbs/day tablet usage so thatthe chlorinator can go 3-4 days without needing to be re illed.Multiply lbs of AvCl by 1.5 to calculate the tablet usage—then check thetable below for the capacity of each chlorinator! The following table shows the NSF-50 ra'ng foreach Accu-Tab Model:22
