IntroductionThis document is an introduction to activating licenses online using a Local License Server.In this example, we will look at setting up a computer as a Local License Server that willrequest a GE license from the GE Cloud. A License Client will be configured to use a localintranet license server to connect to the Local License Server to activate a license. TheClient and Server will be configured on the same PC for the sample.Common Licensing version is 17.2.910.0** Common Licensing verbiage on screen may differ slightly from the graphics pictured in this document, depending onthe Common Licensing software version currently available for download. All instructions are still valid and accurate.
Local License Server Install and ConfigurationEnsure that you have installed andare running the latest Common Licensingsoftware. The link to this ishttps://ge-ip.force.com/communities/en US/Download/Proficy-Licensing-Installer-DN.Launch the installer, downloaded from theabove link, and you will be presented with theCommon Licensing installer splash screen.Click on the Install Local License Server option.Activating Licenses Online Using a Local License Server3
The InstallShield Wizard will automaticallyinstall the License Server, then click Finish.Activating Licenses Online Using a Local License Server4
Now, install the License Server Tools to getthe License Server Configuration Tool.On the right, the Start menu for the ProficyCommon folder shows the configurationtool but the actual server does not show,which is normal.To verify if the Local License Server andConfiguration tool are installed, go toStart- Control Panel - Programs - Programs and Features and sort by name.Activating Licenses Online Using a Local License Server5
With Internet AccessFrom the computer with the License Serverinstalled with internet access, start theLicense Server Configuration Tool by going toStart- All Programs- Proficy Common- License Server Configuration Tool (right clickand run as administrator). Acknowledge anyUser Access Control prompts.The License Server Configuration Tool can beinstalled using the same installation programused to install the Local License Server. The following illustrates a verifiedconnection, resulting from:1. Entering “localhost”as the Server Name2. Clicking the buttonVERIFY CONNECTION3. Refer back to the email that you receivedfrom GE indicating that your order is ready.The Activation Code is highlighted to theright and will be an alphanumeric string of16 characters (xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx).Activating Licenses Online Using a Local License Server11
Enter each Activation Code and theTotal Requested, then click on Add Code.When finished, click on Next to requestfrom the GE Cloud that the licenses beadded to this local server. Activationcomes later.Activating Licenses Online Using a Local License Server12

Your licenses and quantities are displayed.Click on Manage.This concludes the example License Serverinstallation and configuration.
