BRIAN BOWMANUniversity of North TexasDr. Brian L. Bowman enjoys a distinguished career as a soloist, clinician, recording artist, educator andadministrator. Dr. Bowman has held the principal euphonium position, in addition to being a featuredsoloist, in each of the bands he has been associated with: The University of Michigan Symphony Band,The United States Navy Band, The United States Bicentennial Band, The United States Air Force Bandand The River City Brass Band in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is in demand as a guest soloist with highschool, university, municipal and professional ensembles. He has performed as a soloist in all 50 states,Canada, Mexico, The Virgin Islands, Norway, Finland, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Hungary, GreatBritain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, Japan, Tonga Taiwan, Thailand and the People’s Republicof China. He has appeared as tenor tubist with the National Symphony, the Pittsburgh SymphonyOrchestra, the Colorado Symphony, the San Francisco Symphony, Oklahoma City Philharmonic,the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra Symphonica of Xlapa, Mexico. Dr. Cochran is a former winner of the prestigious Leonard Falcone InternationalEuphonium Competition and the ITEC Solo Competition and quartet competition. He has performedwith a variety of ensembles, including the Georgia Brass Band, the Alabama Symphony Orchestraand the Sotto Voce Quartet. He is also a founding member of the newly formed Adams Quartet alongwith fellow Adams euphonium artists Matthew van Emmerik, Fernando Deddos, and Matt Tropman.In addition to his duties at Columbus State, Dr. Cochran is also on the faculty of the University ofAlabama-Birmingham, where he teaches euphonium and tuba and courses in aural skills and musicappreciation and performs as member of the UAB Faculty Brass Quintet. He received the Doctor ofMusical Arts degree in Performance from the University of Alabama, and degrees in Music Educationand Wind Conducting from Louisiana State University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.His principal teachers include Mike Dunn, Alan Baer, Larry Campbell, and Ross Walter. Her niche of interest has been her collaboration with tubaand euphonium artists including Daniel Perantoni, Patrick Sheridan, Oystein Baadsvik, Roger Bobo,and Harvey Phillips, Steve Mead, Adam Frey, Roger Behrend, and Brian Bowman.

Fernando deddosSoloist and ComposerFernando Deddos is a composer and euphonium soloist from South Region of Brazil. His workfor the euphonium in the Brazilian music scenario is outstanding through facts such as been thefirst euphonium soloist with some orchestras, composing, commissioning, recording and producingconcerts. F.Deddos began musical studies at age 4 with piano, going on to Brass at age 11 at SantosAnjos School, PortoUnião town, where he used to play with night bands and also where it waspremiered his first orchestral composition (2000). In 2006, he won the National Young Soloists Award“Furnas II” in Rio de Janeiro/RJ. Deddos earned his bachelor’s degree in Conducting and Compositionat Parana State School of Music and Fine Arts. As a performer and teacher, he has been working ina range of music events and international festivals; Deddos is the artistic director of the SouthernBrazilian Tuba-Euphonium Conference and euphonium tutor at SESC International Music Festival(Pelotas/RS/Bra). As a composer, write pieces for various types of ensembles, including scores forcontemporary dance performances and videos. Deddos has received two composition awards fromthe International Tuba and Euphonium Association: the Harvey Phillips Award for CompositionExcellence: 1st prize for best solo piece in 2010 (“Rabecando”) and 1stprize for best chamber work in2012 (“Momentums”). Mr. Ebbers studied with Arnold Jacobs, world renowned wind pedagogue. He earneda Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Iowa, a Master of Music Degree fromNorthwestern University, and pursued doctoral study at Indiana University. Mr. Ebbers is an active performer, instructor, and ensemble director. He has performed with the St. Louis Symphony,Pensacola Symphony, Florida Orchestra, Chicago Civic Orchestra, and Florida Philharmonic. Hehas toured the U.S., Italy, and Germany with the Florida State Brass Quintet, performing in suchvenues as Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. Ebbers is an active member of the InternationalTuba Euphonium Association (I.T.E.A.), and has served as a guest artist and adjudicator at numerousconferences for I.T.E.A. and as Secretary/Treasurer of the Association.Bernard FlytheKennesaw State UniversityBernard H. Flythe joined the faculty at Kennesaw State University in 2007 and is currently servingas Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium. Prior to his appointment at KSU, Mr. Flythe servedfor three years as Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Austin Peay State University andfor four years on the artist faculty at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival. He has also held facultypositions at Emory University, the University of Georgia, the University of Toledo, the Universityof North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Michigan All State Program at Interlochen, theUniversity of Michigan Summer Arts Institute, and the UNC-Greensboro Summer Music Camp. an orchestral tubist, Mr. Flythe has performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the AtlantaSymphony Orchestra, and the Nashville Symphony. During the 1992-1993 season, he served as theacting principal tubist with the North Carolina Symphony. As a chamber musician, Mr. Flythe hasperformed with the Detroit Chamber Winds, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet, andthe North Carolina Symphony Brass Quintet. Mr. Flythe received a bachelor of music degree fromthe University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He earned his master of music and his specialist inmusic degrees from the University of Michigan. Mr. Flythe’s principal tuba teachers include FritzKaenzig, Robert Leblanc, David Lewis, Wesley Jacobs, and Michael Sanders.Adam FreyGeorgia State University and Emory UniversityAdam Frey is the Artistic Director of the IET for the past 11 years and travels the world sharinghis music with audiences and students. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Adam Frey received his musical training at the University of Georgia and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester,England. As a major ambassador of the euphonium, Adam has more than ninety works that havebeen composed or specifically arranged for him. Adam has soloed with orchestras the world over,including the world famous Boston Pops, Cheju Symphony Orchestra (South Korea), US Army Orchestra (Washington DC), Harvard Pops (MA), Fort Collins (CO), Indian Hill (MA), the Vaasa Symphony Orchestra (Finland), Atlanta Philharmonic (GA), Cascade (WA), Greensboro (NC), Clemson(SC), LaGrange (GA), Minot (ND), Bellevue Philharmonic (WA), and Northeastern (MA) SymphonyOrchestras. His responsibilities include directing the Big Purple Marching Band,conducting the Concert Band, supervising the instrumental music education program and studio horn.He previously held positions at the Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of New Mexico andin the public schools of Fayette County, Georgia. Dr. Houghtalen holds degrees in music education andconducting from the University of Tennessee, University of Colorado, and Arizona State University.His primary conducting teachers include Gary W. Gunnery Sergeant mark jenkinsThe US Marine BandEuphonium player Gunnery Sergeant Mark Jenkins “The President’s Own” United States Marine Bandin July 2002. He was appointed principal and section leader in 2012. GySgt Jenkins began his musicalinstruction at age 11. He graduated in 1996 from Durango High School in Las Vegas and continuedhis education at the University of North Texas in Denton, where he studied euphonium performancewith Brian Bowman and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music performance in 2003. He earneda master of music degree from the University of Maryland in College Park in 2006 and is currentlypursuing his doctorate from George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. Prior to joining “The President’sOwn,” GySgt Jenkins was a two-time winner of the Leonard Falcone International EuphoniumCompetition, and a finalist in the 2001 ITEC Euphonium Solo Competition in Finland.fritz kaenzigUniversity of MichiganFritz Kaenzig has served as principal tubist of the Florida Symphony Orchestra and as additional orsubstitute tubist with Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and the symphony orchestras of Detroit, SanFrancisco, Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles and St. Louis, under such conductors as Bernstein, Haitink, Leinsdorf, Ozawa, Salonen, and Slatkin. He has recorded and performed as soloist with severalof these orchestras, as well as appearing as soloist with the U.S. Air Force and Navy Bands. Since1984, Mr. Kaenzig has been principal tubist in the Grant Park (Chicago) Orchestra during summers,which has played to capacity audiences since moving to the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Parkin 2005. Kaenzig has performed in ensembles backing up artists as widely varied as Alan Ginsberg,Luciano Pavarotti, and the Moody Blues. Roylance was also theprofessor of tuba and euphonium at the University of Central Florida. After relocating to Chicago,Roylance performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, and Seattle Symphony Orchestra. He also served as the principal tubist with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago forthe 2001-02 season. Prior to that, Roylance spent 15 years as a freelance musician and teacher inOrlando, Fla. He performed on tuba and electric bass in a wide genre of ensembles such as orchestras, chamber groups, Dixieland bands, big bands, and Broadway shows. He was a member of WaltDisney World’s “Future Corps” and principal tubist with the Walt Disney World Orchestra. Roylancewas also a member of Rosie O’Grady’s Dixie-Land Jazz Band.
