April Safety ScoopCounselor’s CornerLife can get so busy this time of year! Betweenour work, school and extracurricular activityschedules, we start to feel like we aredashing from one place to the next. As ourstudents get older, there will be times they areleft home alone. Have you talked with yourchildren about what to do in the event of anemergency? Where do they go? Who dothey call? What if your cell phone is missing ornot working? It is a good idea to have yourchild memorize your address and importantphone numbers, or at the very least post thisinformation somewhere in your house orprovide something they can carry in theirbackpack. Students sometimes ask to makea call during the school day - you would besurprised how many of them don't know Momor Dad's phone number. We want to makesure all of our Titans have the tools they needto stay safe at school, home and around ourcommunity. Quiz your child and see if theyknow these valuable pieces of information!Fourth Annual Race for AwarenessSometimes people around you will try to keepyou from changing. They will want you tocontinue to do the same things that you havebeen doing. Like crabs in a pot, they will keeppulling you down if you try to get out. Thatcan make it especially hard to change. To climb out of the “pot” you are in, you willneed to be strong, have a plan, and get somehelp. The people that help you climb out areyour real friends. When crabs are cooked live in a pot, they willtry to escape by climbing out. They rarelysucceed because the crabs at the bottomoften pull those at the top back in. If you are in trouble at home, at school,or with friends, you are in the pot. To climb out of the pot, you must followcertain steps and not let others pull youdown. The visual analogies give you the toolsyou need to stay out of the pot and findOur Fourth Annual Race for Awareness willtake place on April 13, 2019. This year’sproceeds will benefit Inspiration Ranch in TheWoodlands, Texas. Inspiration Ranch is aPremiere Accredited Center through theProfessional Association of TherapeuticHorsemanship International. InspirationRanch breaks down barriers and celebratesthe inclusion of individuals with physical, emotional, and social disabilities. They offerexceptional equine assisted therapy andactivities in a loving environment. There is stilltime to register for the race. The registrationform is on the Coulson Tough website.Registration fee is 25.00.Learn. Grow. Excel.opportunity, freedom, and self-respect.
