LBBR linear ball bearings/LPB linear plain bearingsLBBR linear ball bearingsThe recently developed compactLBBR linear ball bearing is of apatented design. The bearing comprises a plastic cage carrying hardened steel raceway segments andguiding the ball sets. The bearingconforms to dimension series 1 ofISO 10285. The LBBR racewaysegments have been designed tomaximise the length of the loadcarrying zone. A high load bearingcapacity is therefore possible with aresulting long service life. The designof the plastic cage is entirely newand has been optimised. The keyfeature is that all the balls in thebearing run on the same pitch circlediameter which allows ball recirculation to take place smoothly with noresulting cage loads. Ball diametercan be maximised with this design ofcage with implications not only forload capacity and life but also onrunning quality. The seal design on this newbearing type has also been improved. The sealed variant is fitted withintegral double lip seals. These sealshave an inner lip that prevents escapeof lubricant from within the bearingand an external lip to wipe the shaftsurface as the bearing moves. Theunsealed bearing is fitted with noncontacting shields that protect againstmajor contamination from the bearing. The linear ball bearings LBBR, neednot be secured axially in the housingprovided the housing bore is correct.StainlessThe application of linear bearings hasbeen extended by this new type withthe introduction of a corrosionresistant variant Raceway segmentsand balls can be specified in highalloy stainless steel by adding thesuffix HV6 to the designation, e.g.LBBR 16-2LS/HV6. In combinationwith our stainless steel shafts, thelinear ball bearing LBBR thus offersthe possibility of realising a designcompletely of stainless steel.Abmessungen Anzahl TrareihenCCFw Dmm12162025304050LBBR linear ball 09001 1202 0003 2505 3006 800

LPBR linear plain bearingsLPBR linear plain bearings have thesame dimensions as the LBBR linearball bearings described above. Inselecting the most suitable slidematerial (polyacetal withpolyethylene) special attention wasgiven to the stick-slip-free characteristics. Furthermore the SKF linearplain bearings require little maintenance and show excellent performance under breakdown conditions. They have high static load carryingcapacity and are resistant to shockloads. The use of lubricant is recommended after installation to allowimproved running-in even when nonlubricated operation is desired.6These bearings are intended for usein those applications where linearball bearings cannot be used due toextraordinary operating conditions. This is the case especially when thebearing arrangement is subjected toheavy shock loads or vibrations or tohigh accelerations and speeds in theunloaded state.Under these operating conditionslinear plain bearings are the betterchoice compared with linear ballbearings, however, increased frictionmust be expected.

Linear bearing units with LBBR linear bearings orLPB linear plain bearingsLinear bearing units incorporatingbearings of ISO series 1 are availablefor unsupported applications inclosed design. These cost-effective bearing unitsare extremely space-saving thanks tothe compactness of the design, butthey can nevertheless accommodateloads exceeding 25 000 N (e.g.LQBR 50-2LS; see also page 13).The new double lip seals fitted tothe LBBR bearings enable theseunits to run without relubrication,8under normal operating conditions. On special request, it is possible tobuy pre-greased bearings. Thisguarantees that the right amountof grease is inserted and that thegrease is properly distributed in thebearing. The systems are available in thelength required by the customer. Seealso the chapter „Precision shafts“,page 46 ff. Please note that themaximum permissible angular misalignment is 15 minutes of arc. Forthe influence on the load carryingcapacity, see diagram 9 on page 18in the technical handbook.A corrosion resistant alternativeconsists of aluminium housings withstainless steel linear ball bearingssuch as LBBR 20-2LS/HV6 or aluminium housings fitted with plainbearings. For such applications the shaftsare made of stainless steel, normallyX90 CrMoV18.

As with all SKF linear ballbearings, they are available with achoice of shields or seals. LBC . Alinear ball bearings are, in general, designed for grease lubrication. Thecage is provided with a through-boredradial hole which permits the attachment of a grease nipple to providelongitudinal and axial location. Greasemay be applied direct onto the shaftthrough this hole. For the relubricationof LBHT . A linear ball bearings described on this page, the housing mustbe provided with a grease distributionchannel in the bore. The grease is thenforced onto the raceway between theload carrying plates.Information on the location of theseattachment holes and grease nipples isshown on pages 16 and 17 of thiscatalogue.StainlessThe application of linear bearings hasbeen extended by this new type withthe introduction of a corrosion resistantvariant Raceway segments and ballscan be specified in high alloy stainlesssteel by adding the suffix HV6 to thedesignation, e.g. LBCR 16A-2LS/HV6.In combination with our stainless steelshafts, the linear ball bearing LBC . LBCR . A linear ball bearingsLBCR . A linear ball bearings comprise a cage in which the balls areguided, together with the racewaysegments and the seals or shields.By virtue of their exceptionally longtrack length and the machinedraceway osculation they are able toaccommodate heavy loads.LBCR . A linear ball bearings, withtheir optimised raceway segmentsand position for maximum loadcarrying capacity, can be mounted inclosed as well as adjustablehousings. When these bearings aremounted in a closed housing, thetolerance of the inscribed diameter ofthe ball set and hence the operatingclearance is determined by thetolerance of the housing bore. Whenmounted in slotted housings thelinear guides can be adjusted to theparticular application, to provideeither operating clearance or preload.LBCR . A linear ball bearings mustbe located in axial direction.LBCD . A linear ball bearingsThe LBCD . A linear ball bearing is avariant of the LBCR . A design. Themain characteristic is a self-aligningcapa-bility which allows tilting of therace way segment through an angleof /-30 minutes of arc, thus compensating automatically for alignmenterrors which may be caused by inaccuracies in fitting or manufacturing(housing bore diameter) or by significant bending of unsupported shafts. The self-aligning qualities of thesebearings cannot however compensate for two non-parallel shafts in anassembly. Tilting of the bearing isachieved through a spherical elevation ground at the centre of theraceway segment. The diameter ofthe cage is also reduced inside thehousing, so ensuring that the bearing- and especially the shield or seals- remains concentric with the shaft. All other characteristics of theLBCR . A linear ball bearings are alsovalid for the self-aligning LBCD . Adesign. LBCD linear ball bearingsmust always be firmly located in theaxial direction.LBCT . A and LBHT . A linear ballbearingsThe open LBCT . A and LBHT . Alinear ball bearings differ from theLBCR . A bearings in that a sectorhas been cut away from the cageand the shields or seals. This allowsthe shaft to be supported at severalpositions or along its whole length,so that the accuracy of guidancecannot be affected by any shaftbending. The open design of the LBCT . Alinear ball bearings means that oneraceway is absent. The carryingcapacity in the main loading directionis however not reduced to anysignificant extent. In comparison withthe LBCT . A design, the LBHT . Alinear ball bearings have beenoptimised in terms of the number ofraceway segments and hence theload carrying capacity. They aresuitable for shaft diameters from 20to 50 mm. SKF LBCT . A andLBHT . A linear ball bearings havean important advantage comparedwith other open linear ball bearings. They are protected against contaminants by an axial lip in the cage ateach side of the opening, which actsas a gap-type seal against the shaft.Open LBCT . A/LBHT . A linear ballbearings must always be located inthe axial and turning direction.LPAR and LPAT linear plain bearingsThese linear plain bearings have thesame external dimensions as thoseof the LBA/LBC Iinear ball bearings.Technical details are as shown onpage 6 under LPBR linear plainbearings. These bearings are available in diameters from 5 to 80 mm(LPAR) and from 12 to 80 mm (LPAT)and do not have shields. All variants, except for LPAR 5 and 8 can berelubricated. Facilities for locationand securing are similar to those forthe LBC linear ball bearings butadditional axial locating by retainingrings necessary.LBCF . A linear ball bearingsFor the open linear ball bearings ofthe LBCT . A design, a self-aligningversion similar to the LBCD . Adesign is available. Here, the designadvantages of the open LBCT .
