Dr. Koch has a PhD in American Studies from Purdue University and helda variety of student persistence and completion-related roles at Purdue between 1998 and2010 including serving as the founding director of the nationally acclaimed Department ofStudent Access, Transition, and Success Programs. Dr. Koch is also the author of an array ofpublications pertaining to student success, including the second, third, and fourth editions ofThe First-Year Experience in American Higher Education: An Annotated Bibliography, publishedby the National Resource Center for the First Year Experience. He came to the Gardner Institutein 2010. The John N. Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education defines itsmission as “partnering with colleges, universities, philanthropic organizations, educators, andother entities to increase institutional responsibility for improving outcomes associated withteaching, learning, retention, and completion.
