HYPESETH STEPS INTO HOST GLOBESThe Golden Globes has certainly found its comfort host in SNL alumni. Only sevenweeks prior to the Jan. 7 live event, NBC announced Seth Meyers will take onhosting duties for the 75th annual gala. Meyers takes over the reins from fellowNBC late-night host and former SNLer Jimmy Fallon (2017), who took over for TinaFey and Amy Poehler (2013, 2014, 2015). Unlike the Oscars, the Globes didn’t havea regular host until 2010 when Ricky Gervais captivated Hollywood’s best party forthree years standing, and then returned for his fourth and final gig (sohe swears) in 2016. Berenz“In the 19th century, persons suffering from mental illnesswere thought to be alienated from their own true natures,”explains the introductory title sequence to TNT’s psychologicalmurder mystery series The Alienist. “Experts who studied themwere therefore known as alienists.”The Alienist is set in New York City in 1896 at the tailend of America’s Gilded Age, when the economic expansion,industrial advances and scientific achievements veiledwidespread corruption, organized crime and serious socialinequality. In a dark corner of this world, an immigrant boydressed in women’s clothing is found gruesomely murdered.Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Brühl), an alienist specializing inchild psychology, and New York Times illustrator John Moore(Luke Evans) are drawn into the case, uncovering evidenceand following leads that the corrupt police officials won’t.Kreizler and Moore enlist the help of Sara Howard(Dakota Fanning), secretary to then-police commissionerand future president Theodore Roosevelt (Brian Geraghty),to secretly circumvent the police.
