Urgent Care Center and Emergency Room Questions AnsweredMTF Patients Urgent Care Center and Emergency Room Questions Answered6th Medical GroupThe emergency department at the 6 MDG closed on 5 July2005. The following information is provided to answerfrequently asked questions. If you have further questions orneed assistance, please visit the 6th Medical Group TRICAREOffice, located adjacent to the hospital. The hours ofoperation are Monday – Friday 0730-1630, closed all holidaysand at noon the third Wed of every month for readinesstraining.Do I proceed to an Urgent Care Center (UCC) or anEmergency Room (ER)? This question is dependent on thetype of care needed. If you believe that a serious medicalcondition exists, that would result in a threat to life, limb, oreyesight, then proceed to the nearest ER. If you are enrolledto the 6 MDG and your medical need is not emergent (lifethreatening), but you feel that obtaining care may benecessary, please contact the on-call 6 MDG provider at (813)828-2273 or 877-495-7120. The on-call provider will assistyou in determining whether you should proceed to an UrgentCare Center or whether your medical needs can be met thenext duty day at the 6 MDG. If you proceed to an UCC withoutspeaking to the on-call provider, you may incur the cost of thevisit. These are just a few examples to show some conditions thatwarrant an emergency room visit; life threatening, brokenbones, loss of eyesight or limb, chest/abdominal pain, oruncontrolled bleeding. If a life threatening emergency occursyou should contact 911 immediately or proceed to the nearestemergency room. What procedures do I follow after my visit? TRICARE Primemembers should contact the 6 MDG within one business dayafter the visit. Please provide the location you went to includetime of visit, address, date, and symptoms presented at thetime of visit. This will allow appropriate follow-up care to bescheduled and expedite the claims payment process. If yourvisit to the UCC is deemed to have been necessary, anauthorization will be entered. Your health is the primaryconcern of the 6th Medical Group which is why it is critical tocontact the 6 MDG after any visit to a UCC or ER. .Where can I go to receive after-hours care? Fortunately, theTampa Bay area has a robust health care system. There arenumerous network UCCs and ERs where after-hours urgent(UCC) care or emergency medical care (ER) can be obtained.Being proactive and determining the nearest TRICAREnetwork or certified UCC will help you and your family beprepared in the event that you need to utilize this option. AreaUCCs have different hours of operation, while ERs are open24 hours a day and are for life threatening medicalemergencies. Individual UCCs may also have restrictions onthe age of patients they will treat. To locate a TRICAREnetwork UCC please call the Provider Locator at 1-800-4445445 and follow the prompts. You can also go online atwww.humana-military.com, Beneficiary Resources, selectPrepared by: Kaye Sass/TRICARE Contract Liaison Officer (CLO)Provider Locator, and choose Urgent Care Centers. Todetermine if a UCC is network, refer to the list below orcontact HMHS at 1-800-444-5445.How do I know if a non-network UCC is TRICARE certified? There are two ways to determine if the non-network UCC youplan to use is TRICARE certified. The best way is to call theUCC and ask if they accept TRICARE. If they do, a goodfollow-up question is “Does your clinic bill TRICARE or will Ihave to pay at the time of the visit?” If the non-network UCC isTRICARE certified but requires payment at the time of thevisit, you can bring the bill to your local TRICARE ServiceCenter, where you will be assisted in filing for reimbursement. Will I be charged for my visit at a community facility? If youare a TRICARE Prime enrollee and you are treated in aTRICARE network UCC, these UCCs will file the claim for you. However, if you fail to obtain the necessary authorization youcan possibly be required to pay for the care.
