BEGINNINGS AND BENEFACTORSIn February 1937, againstthe backdrop of despairand pessimism of the GreatDepression, a man namedGeorge Pepperdine decided todo a hopeful thing in unhopefultimes: endow, erect, dedicate, and accredit a Christian liberalGeorge Pepperdinearts college in the city of Los(Jun 20, 1886–Jul 31, 1962) Angeles. Remarkably, led byMr. Pepperdine’s commitmentand passion, onlyseven months later onSeptember 21,students enteredclasses on a newlybuilt campus, and byApril 6, 1938, GeorgePepperdine College wasfully accredited by theNorthwest Association. As the young college grew over the decades, it caughtthe attention of entrepreneur, lawyer, and inventorFrank R. Seaver, who mentioned Pepperdine in his will. However, it was his widow, Blanche E. Seaver, whocame to wholly embrace the Pepperdine mission. Sheextended the Seaver family legacy through generousgifts that enabled the school to expand into Malibu in1972. In 1975 theMalibu campuswas named theFrank R. SeaverCollege, becomingthe flagshipundergraduateschool of theUniversity.Frank R. Seaver (Apr 12, 1883–Oct 31, 1964)Blanche E. Seaver (Sep 15, 1891–Apr 9, 1994)2

Pepperdine’s graduate businessschool and its law school wereboth established in 1969. Theformer, now the Graziadio BusinessSchool, was named in 1996, whenGeorge L. Graziadio, Jr., ImperialBank cofounder and real estateentrepreneur, “adopted” it as hisfourth child and endowed it with both George L. Graziadiohis gifts and his name. In the spirit of (Jul 6, 1911–Jun 6, 2002)its namesake, the Graziadio Schoolprovides business education that isentrepreneurial in spirit, ethical infocus, and global in orientation. The law school was named theCaruso School of Law in 2019, theyear of its 50th anniversary, in honorof a historic gift from alumnusRick J. Caruso (JD ’83) and his wife, Rick J. Caruso (JD '83)(Jan 7, 1959–Present)Tina. A real estate entrepreneurlike Graziadio, Caruso has a passion for educationalphilanthropy. Designed to both strengthen the school’sacademic programming and to enable talented studentsto attend the school who would not otherwise have themeans to do so, the Caruso gift will have a significantimpact on the school's students in the years to come.Pepperdine University has been ranked #19 of the 100 Most BeautifulColleges by Bestcollegereviews.org (2020).3

This study investigated microRNA and mRNA expression and protein function associated with DNA repair in human oocytes and embryos. MicroRNAs have been shown to down-regulate and in some cases to stabilise the expression of several genes including repair genes. The first aim of this study was to analyse the differences in the expression of microRNAs and their target mRNAs involved in repair .
