Intoday’s world of accelerating change, training and learning have become a lifelongprocess. In response to this reality, Amarillo College offers—through its ContinuingEducation program—short courses, seminars, and workshops in a number of differentsubject areas, allowing students to pursue their educational goals. Students may enroll in Continuing Education classes virtually year round. TheRegistrar’s Office records Continuing Education courses you have taken, and atranscript of those courses will be provided upon request. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are awarded for designated ContinuingEducation classes. One CEU is defined as “10 contact hours of participation in anorganized continuing education adult or extension experience under responsiblesponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction.” Students in Continuing Education classes for which CEUs are awarded willqualify for one of the following: S — Satisfactory, U — Unsatisfactory. Students innon-CEU bearing classes, courses generally designed for the student’s personalenrichment and enjoyment, do not receive grades. Enrollment in CEU credit bearing Continuing Education courses is limited to highschool seniors or those who have terminated or finished high school unlessotherwise stated. However, Non-CEU credit Continuing Education courses areopen to anyone age 15 or older unless otherwise stated.Academic FreedomStudents shall be free to be guided by scholarly research, study the substance of a givendiscipline, examine pertinent data, question assumptions, take reasoned exception toinformation and views offered in the classroom, and reserve judgment about matters ofopinion.Enrollment Eligibility NoticeStudents with outstanding obligations to Amarillo College may not be allowed to enrollin or complete a Continuing Education course until the obligation is fulfilled. Studentswho have received a Criminal Trespass Warning from Amarillo College will not beallowed to enroll in courses held on any AC campus unless the warning has beenlifted.

4Kids’ CollegeContinuing Education is also offered to children age 14 and under through the Kids’College program. There is some overlap in that some Kids’ College classes admitstudents over the age of 14 and some Continuing Education classes admit studentsunder the age of 15. Check individual class listings for these exceptions.Seniors’ CollegeContinuing Education classes are open to and welcome senior citizens. Seniors’College classes are specifically designed to meet the cultural and educational needsof those age 50 and older. Unless otherwise noted by the individual class listing,you must be age 50 or older, or have permission of the instructor, to take a Seniors’College class.SENIOR CITIZEN TUITION WAIVER POLICYA Senior Citizen is defined as “any person 65 years of age or older.” Tuition will bewaived on eligible courses on a SPACE AVAILABLE basis; however, the class mustreach its minimum paying enrollment, but not its maximum, for the policy to apply.Proof of age and photo identification are required, and the student must pay allcourse/lab fees.Continuing Education Courses: A Senior Citizen must complete the “ContinuingEducation Registration Form.” Continuing education courses that do not meetthe criteria for state funding must be self-supporting and are not eligible for the SeniorCitizen Tuition Waiver. Ineligible courses include all Personal Enrichment courses andmost Occupational Continuing Education courses that are less than seven clock hoursin length.NEW! TPEG FundingTPEG funding for certain CEU credit bearing Continuing Education classes isavailable to eligible students. Student eligibility is based on demonstrated need and islimited to student enrollment in a state funded course that is 40 contact hours or morein length. TPEG funds do not cover textbooks or supplies. The Financial Aid Office willdetermine individual approval and oversee the disbursement of TPEG funds. Pleasecontact the Continuing Education Office at (806) 371-2910 for more information.Note: Application does not guarantee payment of tuition, and the award is based on theavailability of funds.NEW! Continuing Education Scholarship Student must be enrolled in state-funded Continuing Education workforcedevelopment classes that are 40 contact hours or more. Student must demonstrate need. Student is not receiving other tuition assistance/exemptionfor this class. Student must be in good standing with Amarillo College. Award may be used for tuition and fees only. There is no full-time or part-time enrollment requirement forthis scholarship. Award is charge only. 5The Fine Print disAbility Services - Any student who has a disabling condition that may require specialarrangements to meet course requirements should contact disAbility Services, Room 119 ofthe Student Service Center, Washington Street Campus or call 371-5436. Books & Supplies - Books and Supplies are not required in most courses; however, somespecialized courses will require textbooks and other supplies. In some cases these arefurnished and included in the course fee. Students will be notified at the first class meeting.Textbooks are available at College Bookstores. Class Cancellation - Amarillo College reserves the right to cancel a class orclasses when necessary.Note: Course Payment - Payment for courses is due at the time of enrollment.Payment must be received before a place can be reserved in class. Custom Designed Courses - Continuing Education courses can be designed forindividuals, groups, and organizations. We welcome ideas concerning new courses; be itfor job skill enhancement, personal enrichment, or entertainment. The primary requirementsare a sufficient number of students, a qualified instructor, and suitable facilities. AmarilloCollege’s Continuing Education Division also offers programs to augment the staffdevelopment and job skill training programs of business, industry, labor, government, andprofessional groups. Training programs are tailor-made and offered either in-house or atthe College to meet specific job upgrading and training needs of individual organizations. Some areenrolled for Continuing Education and others for Academic Credit. If a student registersthrough Occupational Continuing Education, they earn Continuing Education Units(CEUs) for designated classes, not Semester Credit Hours (SCHs). If students wish toreceive SCHs, they must enroll through the College’s credit registration process. Enrollment - Enrollment in Continuing Education Classes must be completed beforethe third class meeting. Some courses require special enrollment procedures (seeindividual course listing.)Note: Refunds - Unless otherwise stated in brochures, flyers, or other promotionalmaterials, the AC Continuing Education Refund Policy is as follows: Students must initiate all refund requests and transfers from one class to another.Refunds are processed within 45 days.If a student transfers to a different class, any additional tuition due must be paid atthe time the transfer is processed.If a class is cancelled, the student automatically receives a 100 percent refund.Classes with fewer than three class meetings:Until the close of business the last working day prior to the beginning date of the class: 100 percent refunds will be given.Class transfers are allowed.No refunds will be given on or after the first class day. 100 percent refunds will be given.Class transfers are allowed and 100 percent of tuition already paid will be applied to the newcourse(s).No refunds will be given on or after the third class day.Classes with three or more class meetings:Until the close of business the last working day prior to the date of the third class meeting: Notice to Employers - Third party checks received at the time of enrollment are appliedto the student’s account.
