From the Desk of Father EdDear brothers and sisters of the Crucified One,The 15th Chapter of St. Luke’s Gospel contains three parables ofdivine mercy, one of which is today’s Gospel that of the ProdigalSon. In this Year of Mercy, it stands above as a proclamation ofthe Unconditional and Abundant love of God; and a challenge forus to forgive each other (the elder Son is loved by his father butchallenged to love his erring brother as well).God is foolish and wild in His love for us. It makes so little senseon a purely human level. But we who are Baptized were never tooperate on a purely human level - we are to operate on the level ofgrace! It is a fact that God has shared with us the power to forgive sins, we proclaim it every time we pray the Our Father. Thisis the week when the unbaptized will formally receive the OurFather from the Christian community as a most precious gift. All of us should reflect that we have received the Unconditionaland Abundant love of God our Father. And we should commitmore fully to being agents of forgiveness and ministers of reconciliation to those around us. Where is Jesus asking you to go? Towhom? Into what situation? Pray and then go. If you find it“impossible” to go or act directly then come to Adoration andbring them to the feet of Jesus, He can do what we cannot. YourSavior is waiting, answer Him.And if you have time, take a look at those other two parables inSt. Luke’s 15th Chapter, they might help you to more fully understand the foolish, wild, and merciful, love God has for us whichHe also desires us to have for one another. As always, I wish you peace. - Fr. The fasting that all dotogether on Fridays is but a sign of the daily Lentendiscipline of individuals and households: fasting forcertain periods of time, fasting from certain foods, but also fasting from other things and activities.Likewise, the giving of alms is some effort to sharethis world equally—not only through the distribution of money, but through the sharing of our timeand talents.
