The Lions NameOn June 17, 1917 at the invitation of Melvin Jones, delegatesmet in Chicago. The only point of contention was the selectionof a name for the new organization. Melvin Jones researchedthe idea of calling the new organization Lions. He wasconvinced that the lion stood for strength, courage, fidelityand vital action. Meet International PresidentDr. Jing-Yul ChoiDr. Jung-Yul Choi of Busan, Republic of Korea, waselected to serve as International President of Lions ClubsInternational at the association’s 102nd InternationalConvention, held in Milan, Italy from July 5 through July 9,2019.A member of the Busan Jae-il Lions Club since 1977, VicePresident Choi has held many offices within the association. Heserved numerous times as a DGE Group Leader and served on11 committees as a member of the International Board ofDirectors. In addition, he was a chairperson of the 39th OSEALForum in 2000 and a host committee chairperson at the 95thLions International Convention in Busan in 2012.In recognition of his service to the association, PresidentChoi has received numerous awards, including theHumanitarian Partnership, Senior Master Key Award, 100%District Governor Award, International President’s LeadershipAwards, International President’s Awards and an Ambassadorof Good Will Award, the highest honor the association bestowsupon its members. He is also a Progressive Melvin JonesFellow.In addition to his Lion activities, President Choi is chiefexecutive officer of Koala Company, Ltd., an internationaltrading company, and is also a past director of the Busan SportsAssociation.President Choi and his wife, Seung-Bok, have one son, fourdaughters and two granddaughters.3

13 OH6 District GovernorDG Ric Houser & IPCC LydiaLion Ric joined the Mad River Lions Club in March, 1999.He has served as Secretary, Club Service Chair, ClubAdministrator, Club LCIF Coordinator, Club Marketing andCommunications, 3rd Vice President, 2nd Vice President, 1st VicePresident, and President. He is also co-chairperson of the MadRiver Lions Breakfast with Santa and is on numerous othercommittees of the club. He has served as Region Chair, District13H Newsletter editor, District Convention Program BookPublisher and Marketing and Communications chair.Lion Ric is a Melvin Jones Fellow and has receivednumerous other awards: International President’s Certificate ofAppreciation (2004-2005), Council of Governor’s Award ofMerit (2003-2004), Council Chairman’s Award of Excellence(2018-2019).Lion Ric retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base after20 years in the military. He then went on to continue his careerat the U.S. Postal Service where he retired after 22 years.Lion Ric is married to Lion Lydia Houser. They have fourchildren and ten grandchildren.In Lion Ric’s spare time, he enjoys traveling,assembling special bikes for AMBUCS for people withdisabilities, talking to others, and being part of the electronic agekeeping up on the latest news.4

.13 OH6 1st Vice District Governor1st VDG Chase Winegar and Lion SarahLion Chase joined the Frankfort Lions Club in 2013and has served the club as president for the last five years.He was appointed to a two-year term as District 13 OH6 Zone 9 Chairman in 2018 and was serve in that position againthis current year.He enjoys working with Lions. His hobbies includefishing and spending time with friends and family.Lion Chase and wife Lion Sarah were married in 2010.They have a spoiled yorkie named Cooper5

13 OH6 2nd Vice District Governor2nd VDG John Hibbs and SueLion John has been a member of the Wilmington Lions Clubfor 6 plus years after joining in April, 2014 and was sponsoredby Lion Bill Pierson.As a Lion, he has been a director, Vice President, Presidentand is also currently the Zone Chair for Zone 6. He has beeninvolved in many committees, one of which involved theprocurement of a food trailer for the Wilmington Lions. Hecurrently serves as the Club Safety Officer.John and wife Sue have been married for 39 years and haveone daughter who has been married for 11 years and is blessedwith two children, our grandson Blaine who is 7 andgranddaughter Lucy who is 5.Lion John is an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, and theoccasional game of corn hole.He worked for the State of Ohio Department of Correctionsand retired as a lieutenant. For the last 10 years, Lion John hasbeen doing custom hay baling.6

13 OH6 District Governor’s2020-21 Goals1. Each club host a prospective member meeting by invitingpeople to attend. Club provide overview of Lions and showvideos/photos of activities. Establish and maintaincommunication. Utilize Ohio Plan. Mentor new members andmake them a real part of the club. Retain current members bykeeping involved in club and activities. Also, implement theuse of the North American Membership Initiative (NAMI).2. Charter one new club and be a plus 8 in members for OH6by June 30, 2021.3. Utilize My Lion to report activities. Lions being able toshow all the hours that Lions dedicate is impressive and couldhelp with member recruitment. Also, being able to show allthe different kinds of things that Lions do can get the interestup for potential members.4. Conduct training on electronic use of programs such asZoom to allow hosting of meetings when they cannot be donein person. Utilize Zoom or other electronic means to conductLions business and communicate with membership.5. Continue to expand the OH6 team for pediatric cancerresearch. Expand role for STEPS Walk/Run across theDistrict. Define roles/responsibilities. Establish largeraudience via advertisements/sponsorships of Lions Clubs.Clubs sponsor runners/walkers. All clubs participate via helpat the event, financial support, staff, be runners/walkers.6. Increase LCIF district club contributions by 5%.7. The district will attain 28% female membership by June 30,2021.7
