YNZChapter HistoryUpsilon Nu Zeta was founded on October 29, 2005 in Lancaster, TX. Itwas established to serve the “Best Southwest” area of southern DallasCounty which consists of the following cities: Lancaster, DeSoto, CedarHill, and Duncanville. The chapter is dedicated to promoting the idealsof Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. through it’s commitment to scholarship,service, sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood.Since its inception, Upsilon Nu Zeta has actively supported the nationaland traditional programs of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. such as ZHOPE: Zetas Helping Other People Excel. Upsilon Nu Zeta is focusedon mentoring young girls through the creation of three auxiliaries whichprovide mentoring to young girls from ages 4 to 18. These auxiliariesprovide scholastic advancement through scholarships, seminars,community service activities, self-esteem and empowermentprograms. The chapter continues to assist indigent mothers through itsStork’s Nest Program. YNZ SPOTLIGHTSoror Shauniesa SiskShauniesa Sisk became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. through the Pi Kappa Chapter at theUniversity of Iowa in Spring 2000. After relocating to Dallas, Shauniesa joined the Upsilon Nu ZetaChapter, where she has been a faithful member for over eight years. Possessing a heart for serviceand passion to work with those in need, she has excelled at working with the special needsdemographic. After working in the public sector for many years as a social worker, Shauniesa found arenewed enthusiasm for the growth and development of youth, leading her to the education field. Inaddition to working as an autism teacher with Dallas ISD, Shauniesa dedicates her time working asan Amicette sponsor and a mentor with the Ashanti Ministry at Friendship West Baptist Church. Sheworks with young girls helping them to grow into strong productive citizens. She works tirelessly withour Prematurity Awareness campaign and March for Babies, both holding special significance to her.She is active with the March of Dimes planning committee, and she is currently learning AmericanSign Language to increase the effectiveness of her communication with her students. She is the 2018Upsilon Nu Zeta Service Award Recipient, presented to her at the DFW Joint Founders’ Day Dinnerfor her unwavering dedication to our youth auxiliaries. Shauniesa exudes patience and perseveranceand is committed to the youth of today.
