Transponder Mounting ProcedureE-ZPass transponders (including Indiana E-ZPass, I-PASS andOhio E-ZPass) are designed to be mounted inside yourvehicle’s front windshield, behind the rearview mirror andabout 1 inch down from where the roof and the windshieldmeet (See photo at right). Please make certain you are usingyour E-ZPass transponder in this manner for it to be 100percent effective. If not placed in the windshield as stated,there is a good chance that the antenna may miss the signaland your tag will not be read when you reach the gate.Effective May 1, 2012 improperly mountedtransponders which require customer serviceintervention to process your transaction are subject toa 1.00 surcharge per occurrence.Mounting strips are now available at no cost at all ITR travelplazas and at the Indiana E-ZPass Customer Care Center atMP 87 eastbound in Granger, Ind.It is important to note that some vehicle makes and models have alternative mounting instructions. Thesevehicles have a near optically clear metallic coating, and this special coating can go by several names, includingSolar Ray, Solar Tint, heat-reflected, Insulated or Insta-Clear. This coating should not be confused with thecolored tint along the top of the windshield, which should have little to no effect on transponderperformance. However, the special coating does have a negative effect on the radio waves used by all E-ZPasscompatible transponders.Commercial Vehicle Install
