Cadet Promotion MatrixCorrespondence Courses Courses vs. Exams – there’s a difference! U.S. Navy Correspondence Courses– Read the Correspondence Course Manual on Homeport tolearn how to register for an account– Assignments are graded on the Correspondence CourseManagement System (http://courses.seacadets.org/)– Certificate of Completion (NSCTNG027) is automaticallygenerated by the CCMS Replaces CNET certificates, but keep CNET certificates forpreviously completed correspondence courses– Still need to enter the course into Magellan!!!

Petty Officer Exams Leadership Exams are required foradvancement to PO3, PO2, and PO1– Read Action Letter 01‐16 and read the onlinetutorial on Homeport– Access at the NOTS site http://nots.seacadets.org/– A certificate can be downloaded from NOTS forpassing scores– Still need to enter the exam into Magellan!!!!!Physical Readiness Test Cadets must have successfully completed PRT within6 months in order to:– Be promoted [Admin Manual 0107.6; 0107.7(b)(3), (c)(3), (d)(4), (e)(4), (f)(4), & (g)(3)]– Attend RT or AT [TOM 0405.8(b), 0405.3, 0501.1, 0501.1(c), 0501.2(f)] Best practices:– Conduct in APR and OCT of each year– Offer a “bad day” makeup at the next drill [TOM 0203.7]– See Physical Training Manual on Resources page

“Local Orders” No such thing as “local orders” at a national traininganymore. everything can be handled through Magellan. What about a cadet who shows up at a national trainingwithout having submitted orders?– If the COTC is willing to accept, she can register him on the spot andapprove his orders.– But. must have parent signatures on the TNG001!!! Still using NSCTNG003/004 Local Orders for truly local events(for the time being.)

Recruit Training Requirements Must be enrolled NLT 01MAY for Summer RTs and01NOV for Winter RTs [TOM 0405.8(a)] Must be 14 prior to 01SEP of the training year– “Mature” 13‐year old NLCC Orientation grads may attend RT[TOM 0405.8(c)] Must pass the PRT prior to RT[TOM 0405.8(b)]– Must pass the PRT at RT to graduate, or else must repeat RT[TOM 0203.7] Must receive training on BMR chs. 1, 5, 6, 9 and 10– Just have them finish the BMR!!!![TOM 0405.8(d)]Sending an unprepared cadet can be dangerous and is NOT inthe best interests of RT, the unit, the cadet or his/her family.

Advanced Training Cadets must have graduated RT, be an E2, and be 14years old to attend any NSCC Advanced Training [TOM0403.15(b); Action Letter 01‐07 ¶1K] Must pass a PRT prior to attending [TOM 0501.1(c)] 5 consecutive days counts as “one AdvancedTraining,” no matter how much longer the trainingmight be [Admin Manual 0107.5(b)] Cadets may bank up to 3 advanced trainings per yearfor promotion purposes [Admin Manual 0107.5(c)] Recruiting Station duty or similar “internship”‐styletrainings may only be used once for advancementcredit [TOM 0410.1(d)]AT Considerations Always check info packets/command websites, etc. forspecial requirements– “NSWOC” trainings often have addt’l PT requirements, whichmight need to be administered by DoD personnel– Some COTCs require ADM001 (p 3/4) Med History with theNSCTNG001– Some COTCs have special waivers Training Sign‐Ups on Magellan– “Confirmed” Invoice. “Approved” upon receipt International Exchange Program Network! Use your local resources– Coast Guard, law enforcement, etc.

At Drill Mandatory semi‐annual training includes:––––Sexual harassment [NSCC Regulations 0543.1 & 0933.6; TOM 0203.2(b)]Hazing [TOM 0203.2(b)]Fraternization [TOM 0203.2(b)]Physical Fitness [TOM 0203.7] What has your unit done for fun in the last year?– No paintball; no airsoft; no SERE/POW; no rappellingunless on an approved tower w/certified instructors; nosmall arms training outside the guidelines of the NSCC’sSmall Arms Training Policy Statement and Safety Checklist[TOM 0203.12]At Drill - Brainstorm How do we keep the cadets engaged during theschool year?– School, sports, other extra‐curriculars, and their peernetwork all competing for their time– In late August, there’s potentially 11 months to go until acadet’s next training.! What are your unit’s best practices?– How do you keep them coming back?– They should be looking forward to every drill.

Criteria for Evaluating Training Opportunities Will it further the NSCC/NLCC objectives? What will the cadets learn? How much will it cost in resources, money? Risk evaluation, mitigation & managementAnnual/Quarterly Training Plan

Developing your Training Plan Recommend an officers’ meeting without the cadets Start with a 12‐month calendar Fill in key dates (boot camp, regional weekends, annual inspection, etc.) Schedule annual training requirements (hazing, etc.) Brainstorm ideas for field trips or drill activities– Assign an OIC to each activity that requires major planning– The OIC will take ownership of the idea, research, contactoutside resources as needed, and execute the plan– All OIC’s should report to TOAdditional Resources Again, the NSCC Homeport page!––––––Training & Operations ManualPT ManualAdmin ManualNSCC RegulationsAll forms (don’t save them – it’s probably been updated!)NLCC Syllabus MAGELLAN– All HQ‐directed summer/winter training opportunities
