1887 - a significant yearIn 1887 the country celebrated Queen Victoria’s GoldenJubilee - 50 years as Queen - one in four of the worldspopulation was a subject of the queen.William Gladstone was a prominent politician when WilliamTurner started a business in Sheffield smelting and refininggold and silver.The company quickly expanded into rolling other metals andmanufacturing cutlery.The majority of the company’s early production was to supplyto other Cutlers for finishing and sale under their own name.In essence William Turner was the “cutler’s cutler”.
