Familiarize yourself with all lawsand regulations concerning the operation of this vehicle in your area.The following signal words and symbols appear throughout this manualand on your vehicle. Your safety is involved when these words and symbols are used. INTRODUCTIONWARNINGFailure to heed the warnings and safety precautions contained in this manualcan result in severe injury or death. Your HAMMERHEAD vehicle is not a toyand can be hazardous to operate. This vehicle handles differently than cars,trucks or other off-road vehicles. A collision or rollover can occur quickly, evenduring routine maneuvers like turning, or driving on hills or over obstacles, if youfail to take proper precautions. Read this owner’s manual. Understand all safety warnings, precautions andoperating procedures before operating the vehicle. Keep this manual with thevehicle. This vehicle is an ADULT VEHICLE ONLY. You MUST be at least age 16 andhave a valid driver’s license to operate this vehicle. No person under the age of 12 may ride as a passenger in this vehicle. Allriders must be able to sit with backs against the seat and both hands on thesteering wheel (if driving) or on a passenger hand hold. Always keep hands, feet and all other body parts inside the vehicle at all times. Always wear a helmet, eye protection, gloves, long-sleeve shirt, long pantsand over-the-ankle boots. Do not operate this vehicle at night or during periods of limited visability. Never use this vehicle with drugs or alcohol, as these conditions impairjudgment and reduce operator reaction time. Complete the New Operator Driving Procedures outlined on pages 32-33.Never allow a guest to operate this vehicle until the guest has watched theinstructional video and has completed the New Operator Driving Procedures.5

Modifying this vehicle in any way can change the top speed,stability and handling performance of this vehicle. Modifications that increasespeed, decrease stability or change performance may present a greater risk toinexperienced or younger operators and could result in loss of control andserious injury or death. Use only HAMMERHEAD-approved accessories tomodify this vehicle. Review all vehicle changes prior to operating.The HAMMERHEAD limited warranty on your HAMMERHEAD vehicle will beterminated if any non-HAMMERHEAD-approved equipment and/ormodifications have been added to the vehicle that increase speed or power.7

SAFETYSafe Riding GearHelmetWearing a helmet can prevent a severe head injury. Whenever riding thisHAMMERHEAD vehicle, always wear a helmet that meets or exceedsestablished safety standards.Approved helmets in the USA and Canada bear a U.S. Department ofTransportation (DOT) label.Approved helmets in Europe, Asia and Oceaniabear the ECE 22.05 label. The ECE mark consistsE4of a circle surrounding the letter E, followed by the051039distinguishing number of the country which has0006.31granted approval. The approval number and serialnumber will also be displayed on the label.Eye ProtectionDo not depend on eyeglasses or sunglasses for eye protection.Whenever riding this HAMMERHEAD vehicle, always wearshatterproof goggles or use a shatterproof helmet face shield.HAMMERHEAD recommends wearing approved Personal ProtectiveEquipment (PPE) bearing markings such as VESC 8, V-8, Z87.1, or CE.Make sure protective eye wear is kept clean.GlovesWear gloves for comfort and for protection from sun, cold weather andother elements.BootsWear sturdy over-the-ankle boots for support and protection. Never ridea HAMMERHEAD vehicle with bare feet or sandals.ClothingWear long sleeves and long pants to protect arms and legs.Rider ComfortUnder certain operating conditions, heat generated by the engine andexhaust system can elevate temperatures in the driver and passenger cabarea. The condition occurs most frequently when a vehicle is beingoperated in high ambient temperatures at low speeds and/or high loadconditions for an extended period of time. The use of certainwindshield, roof and/or cab systems may contribute to this condition byrestricting airflow. Any discomfort due to heat buildup in this area canbe minimized by wearing proper riding apparel and by varying speeds toincrease airflow.9

SAFETYSafety WarningsWARNINGFailure to operate this vehicle properly can result in a collision, loss of control,accident or rollover, which may result in serious injury or death. Heed all safetywarnings outlined in this section of the owner’s manual.Be sure to read all of the following warnings about driving hazards and how toavoid them. See the OPERATION section of this owner’s manual forproper operating procedures.Operating Without InstructionOperating this vehicle without properinstruction increases the risk of an accident.The operator must understand how to operatethe vehicle properly in different situations andon different types of terrain. Do not operate or ride in thisvehicle if the clearance between the top ofyour helmet and the brush bars is less than 2inches (5 cm).Minimum2 in (5 cm)Seat BeltsRiding in this vehicle without wearing the seatbelt increases the risk of serious injury in theevent of rollover, loss of control, other accidentor sudden stop. SAFETYSafety WarningsProtective ApparelRiding in this vehicle without wearing anapproved helmet and protective eyewearincreases the risk of serious injury in the eventof an accident.Operator and passenger must always wear anapproved helmet that fits properly and eyeprotection (goggles or face shield).Carrying a PassengerNever carry a passenger until you haveoperated this vehicle for at least four hoursand have completed the New Operator DrivingProcedures outlined on pages 32-33.Carrying Multiple PassengersA passenger must always be seated in a passenger seat with seat belt secured.Carrying more than one passenger in this vehicle can affect the operator’s abilityto steer and operate the controls, which increases the risk of loss of control andaccident or rollover. Never carry more than one passenger in this vehicle.Operating on PavementThis vehicle's tires are designed for off-road use only, not for use on pavement.Operating this vehicle on paved surfaces (including sidewalks, paths, parkinglots and driveways) may adversely affect the handling of the vehicle and mayincrease the risk of loss of control and accident or rollover. Avoid operating thevehicle on pavement.Operating on Public RoadsOperating this vehicle on public streets, roadsor highways could result in a collision withanother vehicle. Never operate this vehicle onany public street, road or highway, includingdirt and gravel roads (unless designated foroff-highway use).12

SAFETYSafety WarningsOperating at Excessive SpeedsOperating this vehicle at excessive speedsincreases the operator's risk of losing control.Always operate at a speed that's appropriatefor the terrain, the visibility and operatingconditions, your skills and experience andyour passengers’ skills and experience.Turning ImproperlyTurning improperly could cause loss oftraction, loss of control, accident or rollover.Always follow proper procedures for turningas described in this owner’s manual.Never turn abruptly or at sharp angles. Neverturn at high speeds. Practice turning at slowspeeds before attempting to turn at fasterspeeds.Jumps and StuntsExhibition driving increases the risk of anaccident or rollover. DO NOT do power slides,“donuts”, jumps or other driving stunts. Avoidexhibition driving.Crossing HillsidesDriving on a sidehill is not recommended.Improper procedure could cause loss ofcontrol or rollover. Avoid crossing the side ofany hill unless absolutely necessary.If crossing a hillside is unavoidable, alwaysfollow proper procedures as described in thisowner’s manual. See page 37.Physical Control of the VehicleRemoving hands from the steering wheel or hand holds or removing feet fromthe floor while riding increases the risk of loss of control and accident or rollover.The operator should always keep both hands on the steering wheel duringoperation. A passenger should always be seated in the passenger seat withboth feet on the floor and with both hands securely grasping the hand holds.Always keep hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times.13

SAFETYSafety WarningsDriving Downhill ImproperlyDriving down a hill improperly could cause lossof control or rollover. Always follow properprocedures for driving down a hill as describedin this owner’s manual. See page 37.Improper Hill ClimbingImproper hill climbing could cause loss ofcontrol or rollover. Use extreme caution whenoperating on hills. Always follow properprocedures for hill climbing as described in thisowner’s manual. See page 36. Never operatethe vehicle on hills steeper than 15 degrees.Stalling While Climbing a HillStalling or rolling backwards while climbing ahill could cause a rollover. Maintain a steadyspeed when climbing a hill.If you lose all forward speed:Apply the brakes gradually until the vehicle isfully stopped. Place the transmission inreverse and slowly allow the vehicle to rollstraight downhill while applying light brakepressure to control speed.14

SAFETYSafety WarningsOperating in Unfamiliar TerrainFailure to use extra caution when operatingon unfamiliar terrain could result in anaccident or rollover.Unfamiliar terrain may contain hidden rocks,bumps, or holes that could cause loss ofcontrol or rollover.Travel slowly and use extra caution whenoperating on unfamiliar terrain. Always bealert to changing terrain conditions.Operating on Sand or SlipperyTerrainOperating on sand or on excessively rough,slippery or loose terrain could cause loss oftraction, loss of control, accident or rollover.Always use extra caution when operating onsand or on rough, slippery or loose terrain. Donot operate on excessively rough, slippery orloose terrain.Operating Improperly inReverseImproperly operating in reverse could result ina collision with an obstacle or person. Alwaysfollow proper operating procedures asoutlined in this manual. See page 40.Before shifting into reverse gear, alwayscheck for obstacles or people behind thevehicle. When it's safe to proceed, backslowly.Overloading the VehicleOverloading the vehicle or carrying/towingloads may cause changes in stability andhandling, which could cause loss of control oran accident. Never tow objects or carry loads over themaximum cargo limit. Never exceed the maximum weight capacityfor this vehicle. See page 19.15

SAFETYSafety WarningsOperating Over ObstaclesImproperly operating over obstacles couldcause loss of control or rollover.Before operating in a new area, check forobstacles. Never attempt to operate overlarge obstacles such as large rocks or fallentrees. Always follow the proper proceduresoutlined in this manual when operating overobstacles. See page 39.Operating Through WaterOperating through deep or fast-flowingwater can cause loss of traction, loss ofcontrol, rollover or accident. Never operatein fast-flowing water or in water that exceedsthe floor level.Always follow proper procedures foroperating in water as described in thisowner’s manual. See page 38.Wet brakes may have reduced stoppingability. After leaving water, test the brakes.Apply them lightly several times whiledriving slowly. The friction will help dry outthe pads.Operating on Frozen Bodies ofWaterOperating on frozen bodies of water canresult in the vehicle and/or riders fallingthrough the ice. Never operate this vehicleon a frozen body of water.Improper Tires andMaintenanceOperating this vehicle with improper tires orwith improper or uneven tire pressure couldcause loss of control, accident or rollover.Always use the size and type of tiresspecified for your vehicle. Always maintainproper tire pressure as described in thisowner's manual and on safety labels.16

SAFETYSafety WarningsOperating a Damaged VehicleOperating a damaged vehicle can result in an accident. After any rollover orother accident, have a qualified service dealer inspect the entire machine forpossible damage, including (but not limited to) seat belts, rollover protectiondevices, brakes, throttle and steering systems.RefuelingGasoline is highly flammable and is explosive under certain conditions. Alwaysexercise extreme caution whenever handling gasoline. Never allow a child to refuel or handle gasoline. Always stop the engine when refueling. Always refuel outdoors or in a well ventilated area. Do not smoke or allow open flames or sparks in or near the refueling area orwhere gasoline is stored. Never refuel while a person is in the vehicle. Do not over fill the tank. Do not fill the tank neck. If gasoline spills on your skin or clothing, immediately wash it off with soap andwater and change clothing.Exposure to ExhaustEngine exhaust fumes are poisonous and can cause loss of consciousness ordeath in a short time. Never start the engine or let it run in an enclosed area.Operate this vehicle only outdoors or in well-ventilated areas.Hot Exhaust SystemsExhaust system components are very hot during and after use of the vehicle.Hot components can cause burns and fire. Do not touch hot exhaust systemcomponents. Always keep combustible materials away from the exhaustsystem.Use caution when traveling through tall grass, especially dry grass. Alwaysinspect the underside of the vehicle and areas near the exhaust system afterdriving through tall grass, weeds, brush and other tall ground cover. Promptlyremove any grass or debris clinging to the vehicle.Unauthorized Use of the VehicleLeaving the keys in the ignition can lead to unauthorized use of the vehicle bysomeone under the age of 16, without a drivers license, or without propertraining. This could result in an accident or rollover. Always remove the ignitionkey when the vehicle is not in use.17

SAFETYSafety Labels and LocationsWarning labels have been placed on the vehicle for your protection.Read and follow the instructions on each label carefully. If any of thelabels shown in this manual differ from the labels on your vehicle,always read and follow the instructions of the labels on the vehicle.If an informational or graphic label becomes illegible or comes off,contact your HAMMERHEAD dealer to purchase a replacement.Replacement safety labels are provided by HAMMERHEAD at nocharge.WARNING! This go-kart can be hazardous to operate if driven carelessly.Injuries can result if you do not follow these instructions: Read owner’s manual and all labels before you operate this go-kart. Never operate this go-kart without proper instructions. Beginners require adultsupervision. Never operate this go-kart on public roads. It is intended for off-road use only. Always wear an approved motorcycle helmet, eye protection and protectiveclothing. Never operate this go-kart at excessive speeds. You increase your risk of losing control if you operate it at speeds too fast for the terrain, visibility conditionsor your experience. Never attempt wheelies, jumps, or other stunts.WARNING! No Long HairAll hair must be tied up and secured at orabove shoulder length. All loose clothingmust be secured. all necklaces andscarves must be secured.18

FEATURES AND CONTROLSSeatsDriver’s Seat Adjustment1. Lift the seat latch lever located under the left front edge of thedriver’s seat.2. While holding the lever upward, slide the seat forward or rearwardto the desired position, then release the lever.3. Slide the seat forward and rearward to ensure the latch is engaged.Before operating the vehicle, always make sure both seats aresecurely installed.Steering WheelThe steering wheel can beadjusted upward or downwardfor rider preference.1. Loosen the steering wheeladjustment bolt.2. Move the steering wheelupward or downward to thedesired position.3. Hand-tighten the bolt.Adjustment Bolt21

FEATURES AND CONTROLSSeat BeltsThis HAMMERHEAD vehicle is equipped with seat belts for all riders.Always make sure the seat belts are secured for the operator andpassenger before riding.5-Point Seat BeltTo wear the 5-point seat belt properly, do the following:1. Sit in the seat and place the shoulder belts over your shoulders.Make sure the belts are not twisted. Push the latch plates into buckleuntil it clicks.2. Secure the two lap belts. Push the latch plates into the buckle untilthey click. Pull up on the strap to tighten. Then, attach the latchplate between legs. Push the latch plate into the buckle until itclicks. Pull up on the strap to tighten.Racing-Style Seat Belt (if equipped)To wear the racing-style seat belt porperly, do the following:1. Sit in the seat and place the shoulder belts over your shoulders.Make sure the belts are not twisted.2. Take the left latch plate and thread it through the belt plates in thefollowing order: left shoulder belt, center lap belt, right shoulderbelt.3. Push the latch plate into the buckle on the right lap belt until itlocks. Pull on straps to tighten.Seat Belt InspectionInspect all seat belts for proper operation before each use of the vehicle.1. Push latch plates into the buckle until they click. The latch platesmust slide smoothly into the buckle. A click indicates that it'ssecurely latched.2. Push the red release latch in the middle of the buckle to make sure itreleases freely.3. Pull each seat belt completely out and inspect the full length for anydamage, including cuts, wear, fraying or stiffness. If any damage isfound, or if the seat belt does not operate properly, have the seat beltsystem checked and/or replaced, Your dealer can assist.4. To clean dirt or debris from the seat belts, sponge the straps withmild soap and water. Do not use bleach, dye or householddetergents.Use a garden hose to flush out the retractor and latchhousings regularly.22

FEATURES AND CONTROLSSwitchesIgnition SwitchThe ignition switch is a three-position, key-operated switch. The keycan be removed from the switch when it is in the OFF position.OFFThe engine is off. Electrical circuits are off, except Acc, 12V.ONElectrical circuits are on. Electrical equipment can be used.STARTTurn the key to the START position to engage the electricstarter. The key returns to the ON position when released.Light SwitchThe ignition switch key mustbe in the ON/RUN position tooperate the headlights. Pressthe top of the rocker switchtoward the dash to turn theheadlights on. Press the bottomof the rocker switch to turn offthe headlights.ONOFFStop Engine ButtonThe stop engine button shuts down the engine. Press button in and holdfor 2 seconds to shut down engine.Before driving this vehicle, test the Engine Stop Button to assure that itoperates properly. With the engine running, push and hold the EngineStop Button for two seconds for the engine to shut down.Auxiliary OutletThe vehicle is equipped with a 12-volt accessory outlet on the dash. Usethe outlet to power an auxiliary light or other optional accessories orlights. For service, the dash outlet connection is under the dash.HornThe vehicle is equipped with horn. To use, press in on horn button.23

FEATURES AND CONTROLSGear SelectorF: ForwardN: NeutralR: ReverseThe gear selector is locatedbetween the seats. To changegears, stop the vehicle, and withthe engine idling, move the leverto the desired gear. Do not attemptto shift gears with engine speedabove idle or while the vehicle ismoving.Gear SelectorTip: Maintaining shift linkageadjustment is important to assureproper transmission function. YourHAMMERHEAD dealer can assistin resolving any shifting problems.NOTICE: Do not attempt to shift the transmission while the vehicle is moving ordamage to the transmission could result. Always shift when thevehicle is stationary and the engine is at idle.Parking Brake1. Apply the brakes.P2. When the vehicle is fullystopped, pull the parkingbrake lever rearward as far aspossible to set the parkingbrake.3. Stop the engine.4. To release the parking brake,apply the brakes and push thelever toward the passengerseat and forward.5. See page 51 for parking brake adjustment procedures.DTip: Always set the parking brake whenever the vehicle is left unattended.Operating the vehicle while the parking brake is engaged could cause anaccident resulting in serious injury or death. It could also result in drivelineor engine damage. Always be sure to disengage the parking brake beforeoperating the vehicle.24

FEATURES AND CONTROLSBrake PedalDepress the brake pedal to slowor stop the vehicle. Apply thebrakes while starting the engine.Throttle PedalPush the pedal down to increaseengine speed. Spring pressurereturns the pedal to the restposition when released. Alwayscheck that the throttle pedalreturns normally before startingthe engine. Make sure there'sadequate throttle pedal freeplay.See page 58 for throttle pedaladjustment procedures.BrakePedalThrottlePedalMechanical Speed Control SystemThe adjustable throttle limiting screw is located behind the throttlepedal. Use the following procedure to control how far the throttle opens.1. Remove limiter bolt.2. Add washers underneath limiter bolt head until desired max speed isreached.Fuel CapFuel CapThe fuel tank filler cap is locatedin the rear of the vehicle, behindthe seats.When refueling, always useunleaded gasoline with a minimum pump octane number of 87R M/2 octane. Non-ethanol fuelis recommended. Do not use fuelwith ethanol content greater than10 percent, such as E-85 fuel.25

OPERATIONWARNINGFailure to operate the vehicle properly can result in a collision, loss of control,accident or rollover, which may result in serious injury or death. Read andunderstand all safety warnings outlined in the safety section of this owner’smanual.Vehicle Break-in PeriodThe break-in period for your new HAMMERHEAD vehicle is definedas the first five (5) hours of operation.No single action on your part is as important as a proper break-in period.Careful treatment of a new engine and drive components will result inmore efficient performance and longer life for these components.Perform the following procedures carefully.NOTICE: Excessive heat build-up during the first three hours of operation willdamage close-fitted engine parts and drive components. Do notoperate at full throttle or high speeds during the first three hours ofuse.Mixing brands or using a non-recommended oil may cause seriousengine damage. Always use the recommended oil. Never substitute ormix oil brands.26
