IntroductionThe 28th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony(“Awards Show”) is scheduled for Sunday, February 27, 2022.We encourage all entrants to read these official Rules andRegulations for The 28th Annual SAG Awards in their entiretyprior to filling out the submission forms.In light of the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic andthe unprecedented and extraordinary circumstances wecontinue to find ourselves in, these Rules and Regulationsare subject to change and SAG Awards reserves the rightto make adjustments as necessary.Please contact the Screen Actors Guild Awards Office withquestions on clarification of rules and regulations. Table of ContentsTWOTHE LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARDTHE SCREEN ACTORS GUILD LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARDNominated and voted on by members of the SAG-AFTRANational Honors and Tributes Committee, the Life AchievementAward is bestowed for outstanding achievement in fostering thefinest ideals of the acting profession. The recipient of this awardis a well-established performer who has contributed to improvingthe image of the acting profession and has a history of activeinvolvement in humanitarian and public service endeavors. ForRules Governing the Life Achievement Award, see Section NINE.THREEAWARDS YEAR AND ELIGIBILITY1.Screen Actors Guild Awards shall be given for outstandingperformances in motion pictures, primetime television,cable, and new media programs.2.Motion pictures, primetime television, cable, and new mediaprograms first exhibited or broadcast during the period ofMarch 1, 2021 - December 31, 2021 (“eligibility period”)shall be eligible for nomination.3.Due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,motion pictures are not required to have a theatrical releaseto qualify in the Motion Pictures categories.4.Motion pictures with an intended theatrical release, whichare commercially streamed or made available on “videoon demand” (VOD) during the eligibility period prior to atheatrical release, may be eligible in the Motion Picturecategories due to the COVID-19 pandemic.5.Motion pictures must be scripted, feature-length films (over60 minutes in running time).Short films (60 minutes or less in running time) anddocumentaries are not eligible.Television and cable programs must have first aired in theUnited States in primetime (defined as between 8 p.m. and11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.6.7.6

Table of ContentsSunday) and in the case of new media programs must havefirst been exhibited on a recognized new media platform inthe United States during the eligibility period (Mar. 1, 2021- Dec. 31, 2021) and share the traditional primetime formatrelevant to all programs eligible for nomination:Comedy Series: a thirty (30) minute scripted program (witha minimum twenty-one (21) minutes of actual programmingcontent) with an ongoing theme and storyline in a minimumof four (4) continuous episodes* and marketed as a comedyseries.In order for a sketch comedy program to be considered,content must be 100% scripted with recurring charactersappearing in sketches within the eligible season.Variety programs with musical performances or unscriptedinterviews are not eligible.Drama Series: a sixty (60) minute scripted program (witha minimum of forty-two (42) minutes of actual programmingcontent) with an ongoing theme and storyline in a minimumof four (4) continuous episodes.**Reduced from six (6) episodes due to the COVID-19pandemic.Limited Series: a scripted, multi-part, program with (2) ormore episodes, a total running time of at least 150 programminutes, and marketed as a limited series. It tells a completestory and does not have a continuing storyline and/or maincharacters in subsequent seasons.Anthology Series that tell a complete, non-recurring story ineach episode or installment also qualify in this category.Series with three (3) or fewer installments during the eligibilityperiod (Mar. 1, 2021 - Dec. 31, 2021) may be considered inthe Limited Series category.Television Movie: a scripted, single, closed-endprogram, which tells a story with a beginning, middle,and end, with a minimum duration of primarily ninety(90) minutes and marketed as a television movie.7

Table of ContentsAny television movie or limited series previously submittedas a motion picture is not eligible.8.Motion pictures, television, cable, and new media productionsmade within SAG-AFTRA’s jurisdiction must be signatoryto a Screen Actors Guild (“SAG”), American Federation ofTelevision and Radio Artists (“AFTRA”), or a SAG-AFTRAcollective bargaining agreement.9.Motion pictures, television, cable, or new media productionsmade outside the United States in which a SAG-AFTRAmember is employed are eligible provided SAG-AFTRAdetermines that the member’s employment is covered by aSAG, AFTRA, or SAG-AFTRA contract in accordance withGlobal Rule 1 or by a contract that accords the memberthe material terms and conditions of the applicable SAG orAFTRA or SAG-AFTRA collective bargaining agreement.10. Films or television programs need not be in English.11. Film and television productions filmed completely outsidethe US with an entirely foreign cast may be eligible.12. SAG-AFTRA’s determination as to signatory status andcovered work shall be final and non-reviewable.13. The Awards Committee’s determination as to eligibility, andexceptions thereto, shall be final and non-reviewable.FOURSUBMISSIONS1.2.Eligibility for consideration for Screen Actors Guild Awardswill be limited to performances in motion pictures, primetimetelevision, cable television, and new media programs, whichhave met the requirements of Section THREE: Awards Year& Eligibility, and for which an official Screen Actors GuildAwards online submission entry, along with the appropriatesubmission fee (see paragraph 5 in this section), has beenaccepted by Screen Actors Guild Awards via its onlinesubmissions application.Submissions open Monday, August 30, 2021 and closeFriday, November 5, 2021 at 5 p.m. PT.8

Table of Contents3.Submissions will be accepted online only and may becompleted by the actor, actor’s publicist, agent, manager,representative, a film’s producer or distributor or aproduction company, network or studio executive, providedthat permission has been given by the actor and that theperson making such submission has the authority to givepermission for use of the actor’s likeness as specified inparagraph 15.4.A legally authorized representative may make an entry onbehalf of a deceased performer provided that the personmaking such submission has the authority to give permissionfor use of the actor’s likeness as specified in paragraph 15.5.FEES: Submissions must be accompanied by a one-time,non-refundable processing fee. Submission fees may bepaid by check, or by Visa, MasterCard, or American Expressonly on our secure online payment service:Individual PerformancesMotion Picture Casts 200 per entry 2,000 for up to 20performers per entry*Television Ensembles 2,000 for up to 20performers per entry*Stunt Ensembles 1,500.00 per entry*Ensembles and Casts with more than 20 actors will becharged an additional 150 for each performer submittedabove the 20-actor threshold.6.Submissions will not be accepted for the same performancein more than one category. However, a performancesubmitted in an individual category may also be eligible aspart of a television, cable, new media ensemble, or motionpicture cast, per requirements in Individual, Cast andEnsemble Eligibility paragraphs 2 (Motion Picture Casts)and 3 (Television Ensembles) below.7.If more than one (1) submission is received for the sameperformance, whether individual, ensemble, or cast, the firstsubmission received will be processed and all subsequentsubmissions will be returned.9

Table of Contents8.All eligible performances will be listed in either the ScreenActors Guild Awards “Motion Picture Nominating CommitteeEligibility Booklet” or “Television Nominating CommitteeEligibility Booklet.” Only performances listed in the EligibilityBooklets will be counted in the nominations balloting.9.Correct entry information is the responsibility of the entrant.SAG-AFTRA and SAG Awards assume no responsibility forany error or omission and shall have no liability to anyone.SAG Awards is not liable for incorrect ballot listings that arethe result of incorrect information on the submission entry.10. If the Awards Committee deems there are insufficientnumbers of submissions in any category, the AwardsCommittee reserves the right to review that category fornomination eligibility. Any decision made by the AwardsCommittee shall be final and non-reviewable.11. Submissions will be accepted online by SAG Awards priorto the qualifying release date. However, all submissions aredue online before the close of submissions on November 5,2021 at 5 p.m. PT.12. Ineligible entries can be disqualified at any stage.13. The Awards Committee shall be the sole judge of whether aperformance satisfies the eligibility requirements.14. The person or persons submitting a performance for ScreenActors Guild Awards consideration shall, if nominated for anaward, exercise best efforts to assist SAG-AFTRA and SAGAwards in obtaining, without charge to SAG-AFTRA or SAGAwards, a license to select and use in the Awards Showfor domestic and international broadcast, excerpts from thefilm or program which illustrate the nominated performance,and any clearances for any and all materials pertaining tothe film or programs necessary to produce and promote theAwards Show.15. By agreeing to be submitted for eligibility and possiblenomination, the actor gives his or her permission to SAGAFTRA, SAG Awards, the producers of the Awards Show,and the networks exhibiting the Awards Show to use hisor her name, voice, image, photograph, likeness, and/or10

Table of Contentsbiographical information in any promotional activity forthe Awards Show and any future shows. If the actor’snomination has been submitted by someone other thanthe actor, the person making the submission representsand warrants that the actor has authorized the submissionand has granted such permission. The person making thesubmission further agrees to indemnify, defend, and holdharmless SAG-AFTRA, SAG Awards, the producers of theAwards Show, and the networks exhibiting the Awards Showfrom and against any claims arising out of the submission orany present or future use of the actor’s name, voice, image,photograph, likeness, and/or biographical information inconnection with the Awards Show or any future shows.16. A performance submitted for Screen Actors Guild Awardsconsideration may not be withdrawn after the submissiondeadline.17. These awards are scheduled to be conferred at an AwardsPresentation ceremony on Sunday, February 27, 2022.18. Petitions with respect to submission eligibility may beconsidered by the Awards Committee. Petitions shall besubmitted in writing to the Awards Office detailing the basisfor the petitions and the facts upon which the companycontends supports its position. Final judgment shall bemade by the Awards Committee and determination shall befinal and non-reviewable.11

Table of ContentsIndividual, Cast, and Ensemble Eligibility1.2.INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE ELIGIBILITY: For individualperformance categories in motion pictures and television:(a)Motion Pictures: To qualify for submission in anindividual Motion Picture performance category, aperformer must have appeared (either on camera orvoiceover) in the Motion Picture. There is no minimumscreen time requirement for a performance to besubmitted in an individual Motion Picture category.(b)Television Programs: To qualify for submission in anindividual Television performance category, a performermust have appeared (either on camera or voiceover) ina minimum of one (1) episode of a television seriesduring the eligibility period (Mar. 1, 2021 - Dec. 31,2021). There is no minimum screen time requirementfor a performance to be submitted in an individualTelevision category.CAST ELIGIBILITY: Motion Picture Casts shall berepresented by those actors with single-card billing in themain titles, wherever those titles appear. In cases of special,unusual or non-billing, eligibility shall be at the sole discretionof the Awards Committee.“A Cast in a Motion Picture” includes all actors whose namesappear in the cast credits of the final release print. Membersof the cast who are not single-card billed but are creditedin the cast crawl of the motion picture announced as therecipient of the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in aMotion Picture shall each receive a certificate.3.ENSEMBLE ELIGIBILITY: “A Comedy or Drama SeriesEnsemble” shall be defined as those actors who meet oneof the following criteria:(a) Have a series regular contract and appear in a requiredpredetermined minimum number of original episodesaired in the eligibility period (Mar. 1, 2021 - Dec. 31,2021). See grid below for required minimums.12

Table of Contents(b) Have guest star billing and appear in a majority (51%)of original episodes aired in the eligibility period (Mar. 1,2021 - Dec. 31, 2021).Actors with co-star billing are not eligible for ensemble inclusion.In cases of undefined billing in foreign productions whereseries regular, guest star, and co-star designations are notmade, performers must appear in a majority (51%) of originalepisodes aired in the eligibility period (Mar. 1, 2021 - Dec. 31,2021) for inclusion in the ensemble.Series Regulars:The grid below shows counts for different season orders/originalepisodes aired during the eligibility period (Mar. 1, 2021 - Dec. 31,2021) and the corresponding predetermined minimum episodecount required for series regulars to qualify for the ensemble.Original episodes airedduring eligibility periodEpisodes requiredto be 7891013

Table of Contents4.Title of motion picture, television, cable, or new mediaprogram.5.Production company or studio (as listed in credits) responsiblefor the film or program, along with a contact name, address,email, and phone number.6.For motion pictures, the name and address of the theaterin which the motion picture was first exhibited, or thestreaming/VOD service it first premiered, and the release/premiere date.7.For television and new media programs, the name andaddress of the network or streaming service on which theprogram first aired and the date and time of first broadcastor exhibition within the eligibility period.8.Name, email, and phone number of personal publicist (orother contact) for each actor.9.Name, email, and phone number of photo contact for film ortelevision program.10. Name, email, and phone number of film or television cliplicensing contact responsible for providing clip access ifnominated.Additional Submission Material Requirements1.PHOTO REQUIREMENTS: Photo of actor(s) or cast/ensemble; title art and/or show logo for cast/ensemble andstunt ensembles.(a) Photos must be uploaded via our online submissionsite and meet the required specs. We do not acceptURLs for photo download sites.(b) Photos must be a color, hi-res (min. 1800 pixels on thelongest side; 300 dpi) .jpg, .png, or .tiff file. Please labelyour file “Title ActorName.”(c) In-character photos are required. However, if theactor is not recognizable in costume, please submit aheadshot.15

Table of Contents (e)Male Actor in a Supporting RoleFemale Actor in a Supporting RoleMale Actor in a Comedy SeriesFemale Actor in a Comedy SeriesMale Actor in a Drama SeriesFemale Actor in a Drama SeriesMale Actor in a TV Movie/Limited SeriesFemale Actor in a TV Movie/Limited SeriesStunt Ensemble in a Motion PictureStunt Ensemble in a Television SeriesDVDs are no longer required for any submissions.FIVERULES GOVERNING VOTINGNominations Voting1.To be entered in any of the random samplings for the 28thAnnual SAG Awards Nominating Committees, membersmust have paid their November 2020 dues bill in full by April,12, 2021; reside in the United States; be over 18 years ofage; be categorized as actor/performer, dancer, singer, orstunt person in the SAG-AFTRA member database.(a)In addition, Motion Picture Nominating Committeemembers must not have served on the Motion PictureNominating Committee in the past eight (8) years; andmust be members of one (1) of the following two (2)groups: a) rank and file members; b) past nomineesin corresponding acting categories from the ScreenActors Guild Awards, the Emmys , the Golden GlobeAwards , as well as recipients of nominations andmembers of the Actors Branch of the Academy ofMotion Picture Arts and Sciences .(b)Television Nominating Committee members must nothave served on the Television Nominating Committeein the past eight (8) years and must be rank and filemembers.17

Only members notifiedthey were selected and who have confirmed to serve onthe 28th Annual SAG Awards Nominating Committeesmay represent themselves as Nominating Committee(“SAG Awards Nom Comm”) members. Service on theNominating Committees is deemed a privilege and isrevocable.(d)The random samplings took place on May 24,2021 from the membership databases. Names andaddresses of members who are randomly selectedto participate in nominations voting are consideredconfidential and will not be distributed to any partiesoutside of SAG-AFTRA or SAG Awards, the electionsfirm, and the mailing houses contracted to mail SAGAFTRA material. Promotional material, which hasbeen approved by the Awards Committee will be sentto Nominating Committee members through the SAGAFTRA Union mailing houses.(e)Members randomly selected to serve on the MotionPicture and Television Nominating Committees werenotified and asked to confirm participation by July 23,2021. Members who confirmed participation must beactive and in good standing in order to serve throughthe nominations period. Any member who does notrespond or declines to participate may be replaced byan alternate member drawn at random.2.The members selected in accordance with the foregoingprocedure shall nominate no more than five (5) nominationsin each category, unless there is a tie or ties, which make anadditional nomination or nominations necessary.3.Members who are not notified that they were selectedand confirmed to serve on the 28th Annual SAG AwardsNominating Committees may not represent that they are“SAG Awards Nom Comm” members.4.Nomination ballots for motion pictures along with the“Motion Picture Nominating Committee Eligibility Booklet”will be mailed to members of the Motion Picture NominatingCommittee who will vote on all delineated categories listed18

Table of Contentsin Section ONE of the SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARDSRules and Regulations under the header: MOTIONPICTURES.5.Nomination ballots for television, cable, and new mediaprograms along with the “Television Nominating CommitteeEligibility Booklet” will be mailed to members of the TelevisionNominating Committee who will vote on all delineatedcategories listed in Section ONE of the SCREEN ACTORSGUILD AWARDS Rules and Regulations under the header:TELEVISION, CABLE, and NEW MEDIA PROGRAMS.6.All eligible performances will be listed in alphabetical orderby the actor’s last name. Television, Cable, and New Mediaensemble casts and Motion Picture casts will be listed inalphabetical order by show title and then alphabetically bythe actor’s last name.7.In the event that different performances by the same actorreceive sufficient votes to be nominated in the same category,only the performance receiving the highest number of votesshall be a nominee for an award. That actor’s remainingperformance(s) shall be deemed ineligible in that category,and the actor with the next highest number of votes shallbecome the next nominee.8.In the event an actor receives a sufficient number of votesto be nominated for one (1) performance in one (1) categoryand for another performance in another category, the actorshall be eligible for an award in both categories.9.In the event a nominated performance is declared ineligibleby the Awards Committee, it shall be replaced by theperformance which received the next highest number ofvotes in nominations balloting.10. The five (5) performances receiving the highest numberof votes in each category on the nominations ballots willbecome the five (5) nominees for that category and placedon the final ballot.
