How to Use This CatalogThis is a brief introduction on how the Rio SaladoCollege Catalog is designed and how to use it.The catalog is published annually online and theinformation contained in this catalog is subjectto change. You may also accelerateand complete the course in less time with our 8-week classoptions. A course syllabus helps you identify the specificdates for submitting assignments and taking exams.In-person testing may be required for the midterm and finalexams. Most of Rio Salado’s studentsare working adults with families. With a variety of learningformats, Rio Salado is sure to have one that meets yourneeds.Online LearningA majority of Rio Salado classes are offered in an onlinelearning format. Rio Salado serves more than 36,000 onlinestudents each year through 500 unique online courses. Inaddition to career pathways, Rio offers a number of transferpartnerships with many colleges and universities across thecountry.Hybrid LearningSome Rio Salado classes are offered in a hybrid learningformat. Hybrid classes combine in-person class meetingswith independent online course work. Students still havethe convenience and flexibility of an online course, but withthe added support of a regular class meeting. Contact RioSalado at 480-517-8540 for details.Mixed Media and Print-Based LearningIn mixed media courses you participate in classes thatcombine delivery technologies, including conferencecalling, audio and videocassettes, CDs and DVDs, printmaterials and laboratory kits. In print-based courses, you usetextbooks, study guides, course packets and supplementalreadings in your classes. Mixed media and print-basedstudents may leave messages for their instructors usingvoice messaging. Required assignments will be submittedvia mail or fax. Due dates for assignments are noted on thecourse syllabus. Your instructor will grade assignments andprovide feedback on your progress.You may print your course materials from the web or at alocal Kinko’s print shop. Onceyou have your textbooks and materials, you may beginyour coursework as outlined in your course materials.If you are enrolled in a course requiring media materials(DVDs or CDs), these will be checked out and mailed toyou automatically from the Rio Library once all tuition andfees have been paid.
