Official Notice of Student Charges – Academic Year 2021-2022Howard University hereby announces the tuition rates, housing rates, meal plan rates, and studentfees for the 2021-22 Academic Year.In announcing the student charges for the academic year, Howard University wishes to emphasizethat Howard's tuition remains low compared to other private universities in the D.C. region, andcompared to other similarly ranked private universities in the U.S. overall. Student charges at Howardalso compare favorably to student charges at other Historically Black Colleges and Universities(HBCUs).This notice details all the approved tuition rates and other student charges that have beenapproved and/or re-affirmed by Howard University’s Board of Trustees.For the 2021-22 academic year, the Board has approved the following changes in student charges: A 7.5% increase in undergraduate tuition Establishing the undergraduate per credit hour rates calculations to equal 1/12th of the full-timeundergraduate tuition rate Amending the previously approved Summer 2021 undergraduate per credit hour rate to equalthe current AY2020-21 undergraduate per credit hour rate Eliminating the Student Health Insurance Fee as a mandatory fee A 20% increase in the mandatory Technology Fee School-specific tuition and fees adjustments as listed herein An average 3% increase in housing rates An average 3.8% increase in dining ratesAll other student fees, including school and course-specific fees, have been reaffirmed.The undersigned hereby certify that the tuition rates and student charges set forth herein were dulyadopted or re-affirmed by the Board of Trustees of Howard University at its meetings onNovember 6, 2020, or at previous meetings of the Board.Florence W. Official Notice of Student Charges – Academic Year 2021-20221 Tuition and Enrollment Related Fees – General Information1.1 PricingTuition is based on (a) the enrollment status of the student, (b) the semester, and (c) theschool or college attended.1.1.1 Enrollment Status Full-time status is when a student is enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits in the fall ANDspring semester.Part-time status is when a student is enrolled in less than 12 credits in the fall ORspring semester.1.1.2 SemestersTuition is based on the semester, and the student’s enrollment status. For full time students: a flat rate tuition is charged. Included in the tuition is a total of 42 creditsthat may be taken throughout the academic year, which includes the fall, spring, and (if eligible)summer semesters.o For the fall and spring semesters: tuition covers between 12 – 21 credits. Creditstaken above the maximum of 21 credits are charged an additional amount, based onthe full- time excess credit rate.o For summer semester: If a student qualifies for the STAGE award, up to 6 credits are included, basedon payment in full of full-time fall and spring tuition, as well as other criteriaset forth in the STAGE award program. Credits that are ineligible for the STAGEaward are charged based on the summer semester credit rate. If a student does not qualify for the STAGE award, then the summersemester credit rate is used per credit taken.For part time students:o For fall and spring semester: a part time credit rate is applied to credits taken.o For summer semester: a summer semester credit rate is applied to credits taken.1.1.3 Application of Payments to Student ChargesWhen a student submits a payment to their student account, payments are applied in orderbased on a hierarchy of charges, as follows:1.2.3.4.5.TuitionFeesHousingMeal PlanParkingPage 4 of 22

For instance: The School of Social Work offers dual degree programs with the School of Business andthe School of Divinity; therefore, a student will be charged the tuition associated with theSchool of Social Work for the duration of the dual degree program.3.2 Tuition DiscountsHoward has programs where eligible students may qualify for tuition discounts.3.2.1 Undergraduate Tuition Discount for Multiple Siblings Concurrently EnrolledA ten percent (10%) undergraduate tuition discount is available for multiple siblings who areattending Howard University concurrently in full-time status effective August 15, 2017.
