Specialized AdmissionsEnd of Orientation QuizUpon completion of this Nursing Specialized Admissions Orientation power point presentation, youwill need to return to the main page and take a Quiz. An 85% passing rate will be required for you to receive proof of successful completion of theorientation. Verification of Completion documentation will need to be sent to the nursingclearance@epcc.eduwith Titer Lab results and any vaccine records you have up to this point to start a clinical file. Include a NursingTransmittal form along with your documents.

Specialized AdmissionsHealth Careers Majors Meet with your designated Health Careers Counselor as you progress throughthe Specialized Admissions process. Identify different requirements for qualification and ranking into those programs. Work with a designated Nursing Counselor to fulfill the requirements forqualification and ranking into the Nursing program. Health Careers majors have to meet minimum passing scores in the TSIA2assessment rather than ATI TEAS assessment as required by the Nursingdiscipline.

Some of these requirements are mandated by state or federallegislation. Others are based on the standards set byaccreditation agencies.

Specialized AdmissionsQualification and Ranking Process First part requires that you complete all generalrequirements, program specific requirements, ATITEAS assessment and mandatory course work. Second part is the ranking of qualified applicants. This criteria is a competitive two partprocess and the SpecializedAdmissions criteria will be applied inaccordance to the current collegecatalog at the time of ranking.o Ranking is based on most recent ATI TEASscores and grades received on the specificprogram ranking courses.

Specialized AdmissionsApplication Process for Applicants1. Nursing applicants are required to complete two on-line orientations. First orientation is the Health Careers Orientation which allows the Nursing applicant to declare their majorfor ranking and is one of two orientations required of the nursing applicants. Second orientation is the Nursing Specialized Admissions Orientation you are currently watching2. Complete a mandatory Health Careers Orientation on-line Complete the application to declare Nursing as a secondary major. Submit the application, along with a 10 application fee Declare a Non- Health Major such as Biological Sciences, etc. until official acceptance into a nursingprogram is received. Declare up to two secondary Health Careers and/or Nursing majors.3. After successfully completing the orientation, you will receive your Health Careers Specialized AdmissionsApplication via email

Student is responsible to assure officialscores are received by EPCC Testing Center. A minimum of a 57% ATI TEAS compositescore is need to qualify for ranking , but maynot be competitive depending the applicantpool at the time of ranking.

Specialized AdmissionsATI TEAS-Qualification and Ranking Minimum passing composite score for qualification and ranking is 57% with all subjects tested duringone sitting. Reading ;Math; English & Language Usage; Science All four competency levels must be met: Reading, English and Language Usage , Math, Science. Students must take all four subject areas at one time. TEAS will carry a total weighted percentage of 40% weighted at ranking Minimum composite passing scores were approved by Nursing discipline Only ATI TEAS will be accepted Unofficial TEAS scores can be used ONLY for advising purposes Cost of the ATI TEAS will be 102 plus-(subject to change) Official scores will be available in Banner 48 hours after testing after Taking all subject areas or a portion of ATI TEAS will count as one attempt.

Specialized AdmissionsATI TEAS-Qualification and Ranking Students may re-testevery 21 days Students can testand/or re-retest atotal of four times. If you re-test prior tothe 21 day waitingperiod, your ATITEAS scores will beinvalid for EPCCqualification andranking. If a student isunsuccessful aftertheir fourth attempt ,they will need to sitout for 6 months andre-qualify for ranking. A 6 month period isdefined as 6 monthsfrom the student’slast attempt oftaking the ATI TEAS. The ATI TEASscores are valid fortwo years forqualification andranking purposes. The mandatory courses for RN and VN Nursing programs are:BIOL 2401, BIOL 2402, RNSG 1301 and MATH 1314 or MATH 1324or MATH 1342 The following mandatory courses have a 10 year expiration date: BIOL 2401, BIOL2402 and RNSG 1301Mandatory courses cannot be substituted Applicants who do not successfully complete mandatory coursework will not be eligible for ranking.

Specialized AdmissionsPre-Program Specialized Admissions RequirementsImmunizations: All students are required to have had vaccinations or disease prior to TITER.After a vaccination is administered, you must wait 4-6 weeks for immunity to show up on the TITER.Immunizations and Positive Titers need to be completed one month prior to ranking date.Tracking System: A tracking system, American Databank COMPLIO, will assist students and coordinators to be compliantwith immunizations, CPR, First Aid, physical ,etc. Implementation is pending for the Nursing Program.Students will be expected to pay all fees that are associated with the American Databank COMPLIOtracking system.

Let’s discuss.Ranking Courses Ranking courses are courses that arepart of the calculation for ranking andselection. Ranking courses cannot be substituted. If a Ranking course is repeated, only theMOST RECENT grade is considered forranking.

Applicants will be placed in a qualified pool to be automaticallyranked based upon individual performance on the most recentcomposite scores of the ATI TEAS and the most recent GPA ofprogram specific Ranking Courses.

Specialized AdmissionsRankingOn specific ranking dates, during June and October, qualified students will automatically be rankedbased on their MOST RECENT ATI TEAS composite scores and the MOST RECENT GPA ofRanking Courses. 60 % of points come from GPA of Ranking Courses which equals 720 maximum points.40 % of points come from ATI TEAS composite scores which equals 480 maximum points.100 % 1,200 points is the maximum possible ranking score

Specialized AdmissionsWhat happens on the Ranking Date? The Nursing program ranks in June and October each year. On ranking day, the Banner system locks in all students who have completed all SpecializedAdmissions requirements. As you test and complete the ranking courses, points are automatically generated through the Bannersystem. The evening of the ranking date, the computer will generate the total points off the most recent ATITEAS scores and most recent grades received on the specific program ranking courses. The top students are selected on a maximum 1,200 total point scale.Note: It is important to make sure you have been working with a designated Nursing Counselorto review your applicant status and assure that you are a “Complete” applicant prior tothe ranking date.

Let’s discuss.Notification of AcceptanceThe Specialized Admissions Office will send anofficial letter of acceptance, (Acknowledgement form)if you are one of the top candidates. You will have 10 days to accept or decline your seat. Acknowledgement form, (Acceptance letter) willneed to be submitted to the Specialized Admissionsoffice.

Specialized AdmissionsNotification of Acceptance Qualified ranked students who are the top candidates will be offered a seat.Letter of Acceptance will be sent officially from the Specialized Admissions Office throughregular mail. You will be given 10 days to respond to the letter. Students must satisfy all Post-Program Specialized Admissions requirements to gain a fullacceptance and clearance for the clinical nursing courses. RN program accepts a maximum of 75 students each Fall and Spring semester (unlessotherwise noted) VN program accepts a maximum of 25 students each Fall and Spring semester (unlessotherwise noted)

Let’s Discuss.Applicant Responsibility forAccepting or Declining aseat Student is responsible to meet Acknowledgementform–(Acceptance letter) deadline. If you do not get offered a seat, you will notreceive a letter from the Specialized AdmissionsOffice. If you are an alternate, you will need to workclosely with your Nursing counselor.

Specialized AdmissionsNotification of Acceptance1. Students declining orfailing to respond to anoffer of a seat into aHealth Careers programwill be removed from thequalified pool as anapplicant for thatprogram(s).2. A student who hasdeclined acceptance intoa specialized programand desires to beconsidered for otherhealth majors, will berequired to submit achange of major form witha Health Careerscounselor.3 After a student acceptsa seat in a particularHealth Careers program,the student will then beremoved from all otherexisting Health Careerspool.4. Students who werenot selected will remain inthe qualified pool as longas they continue to satisfyall current specialized andprogram specificadmissions requirements.

Specialized AdmissionsNotification of AcceptanceWhat does Alternate Status mean?If you are not one of the top applicants once ranking occurs, you will be considered an “alternate”. Seats arenot guaranteed as an alternate.What can I do as an “Alternate” student? You will need to work very closely with the Nursing counselors to make adecision on whether you will complete all the Post Specialized Admission requirementsso if a seat opens up, you may be considered. Any seat that opens up willbe offered in the order of your ranking status ONLY if you have completedall Post Specialized Admissions requirements. If you select not to complete the Post Specialized Admissions requirements, you may want to discuss yourstrategy for re-ranking.

Program Orientation-1 day- in person or virtualCommunity Wide Orientation – onlineSpecialized equipment, uniforms and lab supplies requiredLiability InsuranceHIPAA Training- onlineSubstance Abuse screeningTwo Background clearancesProof of Personal Medical Insurance to meet affiliaterequirements. Tuberculosis – Two ppd’s to be completed afterranking. After initial immunization, second one must becompleted within 7-21 days later. If before 7 days or after21 days, must start series again. Timing is critical. Afterinitial double PPD, single is to be done annually) or chestx-ray (as needed) (or as requested by clinical facilities) Fingerprinting- Upon accepting a seat into theprogram, your name is submitted to the Texas Board ofNursing (BON). The BON will email the student theTexas Fingerprint Service Code Form which enables thestudent to make an appointment with IdentiGO to gettheir fingerprinting completed. Fingerprinting with abackground check form FBI is required by the BON forlicensure requirements and must be completed prior tothe end of the first semester of the program.

Post Specialized Admissions RequirementsCriminal Background ClearanceTwo Background Checks will becompleted by each student. Uponqualification into the program,your name is submitted to theTexas Board of Nursing.
