Bachelor of Science with a Major in NursingDegreeThe Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing curriculumprepares students to practice in a variety of settings and tocare for individuals, families and populations across thelifespan.Graduates achieve competencies that address the rapidlychanging health care needs of Oregon’s aging andethnically diverse populations and are eligible to take theNational Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX). Studentsapplying to the BS program are asked to designate theirchoices for application to any of five OHSU School ofNursing locations throughout the state.

What the B.S. degree in nursingdoes for you: Extends and deepens your knowledge, skill, andcompetence in nursing practice. Provides in-depth study in the new competenciesdeemed essential for 21st century nursing practice,including public health and population-focused care,leadership, and engaging in activities that will improvepatient care. Opens the door to many more career options: leadershippositions, advanced study as a nurse practitioner, clinicalspecialist, nursing faculty member, and/or nurseresearcher. Builds on your current curriculum.

Pathways into the B.S. Degree:Accelerated Bachelors - The ABS program (15 months) is designed to allowthose students who currently have or will have a bachelor’s degree from anaccredited institution with a major other than nursing and a set of prerequisitesto take the nursing courses required to get the B.S. with a major in nursing.3 year BS in Nursing (OCNE)- Applicants will complete 45 quarter hours ofprerequisite coursework prior to enrolling. Once admitted, students will take acombination of nursing and non-nursing coursework in order to complete thenursing program in 3 years.CC Transition options- Students currently attending an associates in nursingprogram affiliated with the Oregon Consortium of Nursing Education (OCNE)are eligible to transition directly to OHSU to complete the bachelor degree innursing. 3 Year Bachelor of Science This is a three year program where students take a combination ofnursing and non-nursing courses. OHSU does not offer non-nursing courses, so students will typicallybe dually enrolled at another 4 year university to complete their nonnursing coursework. Students who have all of the required non-nursing courses willprogress through this program on a part time schedule. Clinical coursework occurs throughout the program and is located inmultiple sites throughout Oregon.

3 Year Bachelor of ScienceAdmission RequirementsApplicants Must Have a minimum prerequisite GPA of 3.0 to be eligible forapplication review. Only prerequisite courses will be used inthe GPA calculation. Have at least 30 credits accumulated including A&P I andIntermediate Algebra/Math 95 or higher by the end of Fallterm. Students who are selected for admission to thenursing program must complete the remainder of the 45credits prior to enrolling.

3 Year Bachelor of SciencePrerequisite courses must be completed with a “C-” or better Anatomy and Physiology – year long series with labIntermediate Algebra/Math 95 or higher competencyNutritionWritten English/English Composition (WR 121 & 122 or equivalent) - 6quarter credits Social Science Electives - 6 quarter credits Lifespan Human Development Electives – to meet the minimum 45 credits required for entry to nursingschool. Electives may include any course from an accredited institutionthat is 100 level or higher.*Anatomy/Physiology and Nutrition must be complete within the last 7 years.

Accelerated Bachelor of Science In order to meet the growing demand for nursing education forpeople who already have a bachelor’s degree in another field,OHSU School of Nursing is offering an Accelerated Bachelor’s ofScience with a major in Nursing degree program (ABS). Once admitted, students will complete a five quarter programcomposed of only the nursing courses required to achieve a B.S.with a major in Nursing. This program will prepare the graduate forRN licensure and will also give interested students the necessarycredentials to pursue a graduate degree in nursing. The Accelerated Bachelor of Science is offered on the Portlandand Ashland campus.

ABS Admission Requirements Bachelor degree in another field. The degreecan be in progress at the point of applicationas long as there is a plan to complete prior tomatriculation. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is requiredto be eligible for application review. At least one term of A&P must be taken by theend of fall term.

ABS PrerequisitesApplicants must earn a “B-” or higher in all prerequisite courses.All prerequisites must have been taken for grade rather than pass/no pass. Human Anatomy and Physiology – full year sequence with labs Nutrition – One Term Human Development (Lifespan) – One Term Microbiology with lab – One Term Biology with genetics – One Term Statistics - One Term*Anatomy/Physiology, Nutrition, Microbiology, Genetics and Statisticsmust be complete within the last 7 years.
