Locate the Admission Packet The admissions packet is on the program page Right side of the screen This is the information we will be discussing today. You are responsible for ALL the information found in the Admissions Packet Fall 2023 Admissions 4

Admission into Fall 2023 Application Deadline: February 2, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. The application deadline is in February. The deadline date is firm. All parts of the application must be on file at College of DuPage by the deadline. There are no exceptions. Always check the deadline of the year you plan to apply to the program. Let’s Begin The Application Process MUST have the following completed by the application deadline: Must be admitted to the college by completing a COD General Admissions Application ( 20 nonrefundable fee) Submit transcripts to Office of Student Records (This includes all college and high school transcripts) International transcripts must be first evaluated. (Look for the link in the Admissions Packet Page 6) Complete the non-refundable 50 Health Career Selective Enrollment Programs Application (See next slide) ONLY complete the Health Career Selective Enrollment Programs Application when all preprogram application requirements are completed. You cannot change the term or program you selected. Fall 2023 Admissions 6

Let’s Begin The Application Process Complete COD Residency Verification Form (Link is on Page 7 of the Admissions Packet) – Presently, due to the high volume of qualified in-district applicants and following COD policy, 100% of the accepted applicants have been in-district residences. Make sure all prerequisite courses are completed and on file by deadline date (MUST be completed between February 2018 and February 2023) Complete the Admissions Test HESI (Health Education Systems Incorporated) Fall 2023 Admissions 8

Prerequisite Course Work All prerequisite coursework must be completed by the end of the fall 2022 semester with final grades on file at COD Prerequisite science courses MUST be completed between February 2018 and February 2023 (by the deadline date) Merit points for prerequisite science courses MUST be at least 12. (We will look at this later) What are the prerequisite courses? English 1101 English Composition (3 cr. hrs) Micro 1420 Microbiology (4 cr. hrs) Chem 1211 or 1551 General Chemistry (5 cr. hrs) A&P 1551 or 1571 Human Anatomy & Physiology I (4 cr. hrs) A&P 1552 or 1572 Human Anatomy & Physiology II (4 cr. hrs) A Grade or D of lower in any prerequisite science course is not accepted Fall 2023 Admissions Course Substitutions Will Not Be Considered 9

Prerequisite Merit Points System Letter Grade A 4 points EXAMPLE: Letter Grade B 3 points Student: Joe Smith A&P I: A 4 points A&P II: A 4 points CHEM: A 4 points NO points for D or below MICRO: D: 0 points No Grade of D or lower AND minimum of 12 points needed in this section TOTAL: 12 points but student does not qualify due to the Microbiology grade Letter Grade C 2 points Fall 2023 Admissions 10

General Education Course Requirements All general education courses MUST be completed prior to graduation It is recommended that you finish as many G.E. courses prior to be admitted in to the dental hygiene program Required for graduation: Math 1102 Math for Health Sciences (or higher) Psych 1100 General Psychology Sociology 1100 Introduction to Sociology Speech 1100 Fundamentals of Speech There are application points given for completion of courses (not based on the grade) Fall 2023 Admissions Humanities (select a course that fulfills AAS Degree requirements) Global Multicultural Studies (select a course that fulfills AAS Degree requirements) Course Substitutions Will Not Be Considered 11

General Education Merit Point System Completed Courses on file: 1 point each MUST have a PASSING grade in order to receive the point(s) A letter grade of “D” is not a passing grade Fall 2023 Admissions 12

Aptitude Test HESI Exam MUST be taken PRIOR to the application deadline The minimum number of merit points for all five HESI sections must be 6 or more You can take the exam up to two times in the application cycle, with a 30 day interval in-between the two exams Exams must be within the last five years Fall 2023 Admissions We will only factor in the most current HESI exam score into your merit evaluation points Information, dates and registration can be found on the College of DuPage Testing website https://cod.edu/academics/testing/hours. aspx 13

HESI Merit Point System Five Sections: Reading Comprehension Each section will receive points based on Score percent: Vocabulary & Knowledge Anatomy & Physiology Math Cumulative Score 90-100% 3 points Score 80-89% 2 points Score 70-79% 1 point Score 0-69% 0 points The minimum number of merit points for all five HESI sections must be 6 or more Fall 2023 Admissions 14

Other Program Information Health Requirements (Page 4 of Admissions Packet) If accepted, health requirements MUST be completed and uploaded to CastleBranch prior to the first day of class. No exceptions! Instructions will be provided upon acceptance. No preclinic or clinic activities will be permitted if you are not current on your health requirements A link to the health requirement packet can be found on page 4 of the Admission Packet CPR certification is required. CPR will be arranged by the program and taken together as a cohort. No previously completed CPR cards will be accepted. Fall 2023 Admissions 17

Other Program Information Drug Testing and Criminal Background Check (Page 5 of Admissions Packet) A drug test and criminal background check is required prior to starting a clinical rotation in the Dental Hygiene Program The cost of this requirement is the responsibility of the student Do not complete this requirement until instructed to do so More information can be found on page 5 of the Admissions Packet Fall 2023 Admissions 18

Other Program Information Health Insurance: Students are responsible for their own medical care and health insurance while in the program. Other Program Information Program Admission Preference: Preference in admission is given to residents of District 502 who meet the stated minimum acceptance criteria for the program – Presently, due to the high volume of qualified in-district applicants and following COD policy, 100% of the accepted applicants have been indistrict residences. Priority for admissions are: a). In-district applicants b). Out-of-district applicants working fulltime in-district c). Out-of-district applicants including those students with a joint or chargeback agreement and International students Fall 2023 Admissions 20

Other Program Information The COD Dental Hygiene Program Policy & Procedures Manual is posted on the Dental Hygiene Program Page. All applicants must review it prior to submitting an application. If you are dismissed from the program or receive multiple failing grades, readmission into the program is not probable Fall 2023 Admissions Withdrawing from the program multiple times will result in not being able to reapply to the program Please review the Endangerment to Patients Policy in the policy & procedures manual. Immediate dismissal will occur. No exceptions. You will have to restart and re-enroll in courses already completed if you are readmitted to the program after being dismissed due to grades or withdrawal 22

New Student Orientation Each year, a mandatory orientation will be scheduled during June or July for all accepted incoming students for the Fall semester Attendance at this session is required If you accept a position into the program when it is offered to you, it is assumed you are available to attend this orientation session If you do not attend the orientation session after you accept your position in the program, you will forfeit your position in the dental hygiene program Fall 2023 Admissions 24
