NOVEMBER 2022 LIBRARY NEWS All MCLD libraries will be closed on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 for Thanksgiving. The following program will be at the Sun City Library this Friday, November 18: Apple Maps App, 10-11:30, https://tinyurl.com/AppleMapsSC The next volunteer event is a dinner at Palmbrook, which is scheduled for the evening of March 15, 2023. B O O K S T O R E U P D AT E T h e November half price sale continues on all non- ction books. NEW BOARD MEMBER Sherri Sharp was elected to Board membership at the November Board of Directors meeting. In December everything in the Bookstore will be half-price, except the Friends book bags. REMINDER With the continuation of COVID, mask use is encouraged in the Bookstore because of its close quarters. Books Around the Corner will be closed on Thursday, November 24 a n d F r i d a y, N o v e m b e r 2 5 f o r Thanksgiving. FROM YOUR PRESIDENT Dear Friends, It's the month to give extra thanks for the positive things in our lives. That includes our Friends of the Library Board, our Bookstore managers, and many volunteers. We could not do this without each one of you! On-line sales continue to be good. VOLUNTEER EVENTS Forty attended the Volunteer Luncheon on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Palmbrook. It was held in a small room with a big window. The tables were formally set. Camilla was a former library staff member and Friends Board member who passed away this year. A donation of 1,000 has been presented to us, from her husband Larry (also a Friends volunteer) and the family. Our condolences go out to Camilla's loved ones, and also sincere gratitude for helping to make our Sun City branch libraries the best they can be! Rest in peace, Camilla. NEXT MEETING The Friends December Board meeting will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2022, via Zoom. If interested in attending by Zoom, please contact Friends President, Sue Blechl. On December 1st our Board will conduct a brainstorming meeting. We want to set priorities and make plans for 2023 and beyond. This is an invigorating activity, with participants preparing ideas in advance, and then coming together to expand and adjust together. We will focus on Programs/ Services and Public Relations. You will learn more in the December newsletter. The Friends Volunteer Newsletter is to improve communication between Friends volunteers. It is emailed to volunteers on the middle of the month, or delivered to their work places if no email address is available.
