Brief Summary of AVC Activities in 2007 (1) The main efforts of AVC in last year were still concentrated on carrying out strictly every project of FIVB in accordance with the actual situation of AVC.

Brief Summary of AVC Activities in 2007 (2) In implementing FIVB Volleyball World Vision 2012, AVC paid special attention and gave strong support to work of FIVB Development Centers in Asia The Development Center in Thailand organized International Referees’ Refreshment Course, FIVB Coach Course Level 2 and Technical Seminar “Center Player”. Many training camps were conducted at FIVB Development Center in Bangkok. In the Development Center in Bahrain, a total of ten various seminar and courses were organized in addition to eight in 2006. The Center has made a general strategy until 2012, including short term objective (2006-07), Medium objectives (08-09) and long term objectives (2010-2012). The Development Center in Chennai of India is very active and has conducted three courses successfully in 2007.

Brief Summary of AVC Activities in 2007 (3) In accordance with the decisions of FIVB B/A and AVC B/A, AVC, especially Zonal Vice-Presidents, made great efforts in motivate one of two NFs in Category I and II, which has achieved good results. Mongolia in AVC Eastern Zone is becoming more and more active Myanmar in AVC Southeastern Zone has tried very hard to join AVC activities though the country has not completely opened. Mrs. Rita Sobowo, Executive Vice-President of FIVB and AVC is making efforts to negotiate with Brunei and East Timor to join the Zonal activities. Bangladesh in AVC Central Zone is one of the upcoming countries in the field of Volleyball in the Zone. Bangladesh participated in the 10th South Asian Federation Games and the Indo-Bangladesh Games.

Brief Summary of AVC Activities in 2007 (4) AVC is going to make detailed plans for Volleyball Festival so as to encourage our NFs to organize during the last week of June a three day Volleyball Festival in which children and young people can play and NFs can promote the sport in AVC region. We encouraged more and more AVC NFs to participate in FIVB competitions and as one of the measures, AVC has decided to make the FIVB Team Rankings as the main base to decide the seeds in AVC Senior competitions. AVC has decided to create a new event in 2008: AVC Cup for Men and Women. The AVC Cup is to be held in even years while the Senior Championships is to be held in odd years.

Brief Summary of AVC Activities in 2007 (5) We allocated double funds on the AVC Aid Programme. In order to make the courses in AVC more effective and helpful, AVC B/A decided that the AVC CC members, especially the Chairman, must visit at least one course a year to check the quality and organizing work of the courses and to know the results and facts more clearly. AVC Referees Committee has already made plans to foster and train younger international referees. More and more younger referees have been invited to the AVC competitions. FIVB School Projects is in the process of implementation. And this project is scheduled to be completed within this year.

Plans for 2008 (1) The 31st FIVB World Congress will be held in Dubai of UAE on 16th and 17th June 2008. AVC will not only request all AVC NFs present at the World Congress, but also make detailed and extensive preparations in accordance with FIVB requirements. AVC decides to give more and concrete support to the four Development Centers in AVC region and we are going to take more advantage of the centers and make them play much more roles. AVC shall double its efforts together with AVC Zonal VicePresidents to improve the zonal championships and help them to play more roles in lifting the level of volleyball in their respective zones.

Plans for 2008 (2) We shall meet special requests from some NFs, especially those in Category I and II, so as to further promote and popularize volleyball in these countries. AVC competition is improving. AVC decided to adopt an AVC ranking system and select the seeds on this ranking so that the real strong teams can have their chance to the top ones. AVC SEC is studying a detailed review of the seeding arrangement and the drawing of lots for the further competitions. AVC has decided to conduct a marketing strategy to raise and develop Asian national teams’ level, which will attract more sponsorships for AVC and national federations.

Things To Be Improved in 2008 The level of Asian men’s Volleyball, especially the senior teams, has yet to be raised and the women’s to be further promoted. AVC has decided to hold more high level competitions to give strong teams more chances to play each other, as well as to encourage and help up-and coming NFs participate first in more small local competitions. The Oceania Zone of AVC is a special region. Most of the NFs are scatterded in the Pacific Ocean, and it is very difficult to contact with them. Therefore, how to help them to develop volleyball and beach volleyball is the urgent task facing AVC. Financial constraints are still a major problem which limits greatly the capacity of some NFs to popularize volleyball in their countries.

AVC, as a supporting institution of FIVB, is always standing united, safeguards FIVB interest and fully support the FIVB with President Dr. Acosta as its leader.

THANK YOU !
