THE UNIVERSITY AND ITS SCHOOLSTo augment learning resources and promoteinter-disciplinary research, VIT has consolidated variousdisciplines into 10 Schools of Excellence. Fully Flexible Credit System (FFCSTM) 10 As part of continuous improvement in providingquality education, VIT University introduced theFully Flexible Credit System (FFCSTM) into itsacademic curriculum.By this, the students can register for courses oftheir choice and alter the pace of learning withinthe broad framework of academic course and creditrequirements.FFCSTM allows students to decide their academicplan and permits students to alter it as theyprogress through their course. The slot-based timetable, coupled with internetbased Course Registration in each semester, helpsindividual students to choose the course they wantto study, time of attending a class and even theprofessor.Students are encouraged to choose interdisciplinarycourses from other schools.FFCSTM also provides the opportunity of graduatingwith double majors.Depending on the interest developed by studentsin their own discipline or another during theirstudy for a degree, they can choose either an‘Honours’ or ‘Minor’ credential.Additionally, students with high grades will get achance to complete the credit requirementsearlier and take up teaching/researchassistantships in their final year of studies.Project Based Learning (PBL)Students not only gain knowledge and elements ofthe core curriculum, but also apply what they knowto solve authentic problems and produce results thatmatter. Students under PBL courses are required tocomplete a project instead of regular methods ofassessments.Research Based Learning (RBL)Research has always been at the core of theprogrammes. RBL actively develop students’independent research skills and provide studentswith opportunities to put these skills into practice.RBL allows the students to pursure their course inone entire semester as a research based course.
