Installing Your SIM Card and ActivatingYour Mobile Broadband ServiceWARNING: Before performing any ofthe steps in this document, read andfollow the safety information thatshipped with your computer.CAUTION: Do not install or removethe Dell mobile broadband card orSIM card when your computer ispowered on.NOTE: If you have purchased anew Dell notebook equipped witha Dell mobile broadband card,perform steps 1-2 to activate yourmobile broadband service. If youhave purchased a new Dell mobilebroadband card upgrade kit, performsteps 3-6 to install the mobilebroadband card, and then performsteps 1-2.NOTE: To access the internet, youneed a Subscriber Identity Module(SIM) card and an account with amobile broadband service provider.
1. Install the SIM CardCAUTION: To avoid damage tothe SIM card from electrostaticdischarge, do not touch the SIM cardconnectors during installation orremoval.To install the SIM card:a. Turn your computer over.NOTE: The SIM card slot locationvaries by computer model. Seeyour computer’s documentation forlocation and access instructions.b. Remove the battery.c. Insert the SIM card into the slot availablein the battery bay.d. Replace the battery.
2. Connect to Network (Windows 8/8.1)NOTE: To activate your mobile broadband service, please contact the serviceprovider with the following information:a. Select Settings from the Charms Menu Bar and select Change PC settings.b. In the PC Settings tab, select Network.c. In the Network tab, select your Mobile Broadband Carrier.d. In the Mobile Broadband Carrier tab, note the International Mobile EquipmentIdentity (IMEI) and the Integrated Circuit Card Identifier (ICCID).e. MEID (Mobile Equipment Identifier) which is the IMEI without the last digit.
To connect to the network, go to networksettings and connect to the networkcarrier displayed.3. Connect to Network(Windows 10)NOTE: To activate your mobilebroadband service, please contact theservice provider with the followinginformation:a. Select the Network icon from thetaskbar and then select Cellular.The Cellular page displays.
b. Select your Mobile BroadbandCarrier to expand the options.c. Select Advanced Options.The options are displayed.d. Make a note of the InternationalMobile Equipment Identity (IMEI)and the Integrated Circuit CardIdentifier (ICCID).
4. Install the MobileBroadband CardCAUTION: Electrical and electronicdevices are sensitive to electrostaticdischarge (ESD). Exposure to ESDcan harm your device and potentiallycause it not to function properly.Ensure you are properly groundedbefore handling the Dell mobilebroadband card.NOTE: The mobile broadband cardslot location varies by computermodel. See your computer’sdocumentation for location andaccess instructions.NOTE: If your computer already hasa mobile broadband card installed,remove it by disconnecting the cablesand lift the card out of its connectorwhile pulling outwards on the twocard stabilizers.Move the antenna cables out of the wayand insert the Dell mobile broadband cardas shown.
5. Connect the Antenna Cablesa. Connect the white with gray stripedcable to the connector on the cardmarked by a white triangle.b. Connect the black with gray stripedcable to the connector on the cardmarked by a black triangle.c. Replace the communications dooror the keyboard.6. Attach the Regulatory LabelNOTE: To ensure regulatorycompliance, it is a requirement toattach the label to the bottom of thecomputer.NOTE: The label layout and placementmay not match as shown.Affix the regulatory label that matches thecolor of the bottom of the computer inthe space provided.
