D- Academic, P- Applied, L- LocallyDeveloped. O- Open is another level that many of the Grade 10 elective courses are offered at. Make sure youhave the prerequisite for the courses you are choosing.1

The general rule for choosing the appropriate level for each course: 65% or higher in the academic grade 9 course or a minimum of 75% in the applied grade 9 course thanthe student can choose academic courses for grade 10 Less than 65% in the academic grade 9 course or less than 75% in the applied grade 9 courses than it isrecommended that the student take the applied course. MATH rule: if you want to go from grade 9 applied math (MFM1P1) to grade 10 academicmath (MPM2D1) you must take a transfer credit course at summer school. It is recommendedthat you have a minimum of 75% in the MFM1P1 in order to take the transfer course. If a student fails a grade 9 core course (English, Math, Science, Geography, French) than theyneed to put this into their timetable for next year. If they have a mark between 35 – 45%they can sign up for summer school and when the student has passed summer school theirtimetable for next year will be changed (i.e. put in the appropriate grade 10 course)The remaining elective courses and alternative courses should be made with the following in mind: Other diploma requirements (see the bottom of your Credit Counselling Summary). Check to see ifthere are any other compulsory courses you are missing; for example group 1, or group 2 or group 3. Check that you have the prerequisites for the courses you are interested in.
