THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE 11A WORD ABOUT YOUR KEYSIgnition Key RemovalThe key fob contains the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) 1. Push the brake pedal and place the transmission intotransmitter with an integrated key. To use the mechanicalfirst (1) or reverse (R) gear by selecting/pushing thekey simply push the mechanical key release button.buttons on the console.Key Fob1 — Vehicle Key2 — Push To Open/Close Vehicle KeyTransmission Gear Selector2. Rotate the key to the STOP (OFF/LOCK) position andengage the handbrake and release brake pedal.2

12 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE3. Remove the key from the ignition switch lock cylinder.Ignition Switch Positions1 — STOP (OFF/LOCK)2 — MAR (ACC/ON/RUN)3 — AVV (START)WARNING! Before exiting the vehicle, always apply the parking brake, and remove the Key Fob from theignition. When leaving the vehicle, always lockyour vehicle. Never leave children alone in a vehicle, or withaccess to an unlocked vehicle. Allowing children to be in a vehicle unattended isdangerous for a number of reasons. A child orothers could be seriously or fatally injured. Children should be warned not to touch the parkingbrake, brake pedal or the transmission gear selector. Do not leave the Key Fob in or near the vehicle, orin a location accessible to children. A child couldoperate power windows, other controls, or movethe vehicle.(Continued)

Interior heat build-up maycause serious injury or death.Key-In-Ignition ReminderOpening the driver’s door when the key is in the ignitionand the ignition switch position is OFF/LOCK, sounds asignal to remove the key.SENTRY KEY CAUTION!An unlocked car is an invitation to thieves. Alwaysremove the key from the ignition and lock all thedoors when leaving the vehicle unattended.Locking Doors With A KeyYou can insert the key with either side up. To lock thedoor, turn the key to the left. To unlock the door, turn thekey to the right. Refer to “Body Lubrication” in “Maintaining Your Vehicle” for maintenance information.The Sentry Key Immobilizer System prevents unauthorized vehicle operation by disabling the engine. Thesystem does not need to be armed or activated. Operationis automatic, regardless of whether the vehicle is lockedor unlocked.The system uses ignition keys which have an embeddedelectronic chip (transponder) to prevent unauthorizedvehicle operation. Therefore, only keys that are programmed to the vehicle can be used to start and operatethe vehicle.2
