Mobile two-way radios and telephoneequipment must be installed properly by trained personnel. The following must be observed during installation.The positive power connection should be made directlyto the battery and fused as close to the battery as possible.The negative power connection should be made to bodysheet metal adjacent to the negative battery connection.This connection should not be fused.Antennas for two-way radios should be mounted on theroof or the rear area of the vehicle. Care should be usedin mounting antennas with magnet bases. Magnets mayaffect the accuracy or operation of the compass onvehicles so equipped.The antenna cable should be as short as practical androuted away from the vehicle wiring when possible. 12THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLEThe authorized dealer that sold you your new vehicle hasA WORD ABOUT YOUR KEYSYou can insert the double-sided keys into the locks with the key code numbers for your vehicle locks. Theseeither side up.numbers can be used to order duplicate keys from yourauthorized dealer. Ask your authorized dealer for thesenumbers and keep them in a safe place.Ignition Key RemovalAutomatic TransmissionPlace the shift lever in PARK. Turn the key to the ACCposition and then push the key and cylinder inwardslightly and rotate the key to the LOCK position. Thenremove the key.Vehicle Key

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE13NOTE: For vehicles not equipped with the Electronic VehicleInformation Center (EVIC), features such as the powerwindow switches, radio, power sunroof or Sky Slider威(if equipped), and power outlets will remain active for45 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to theLOCK position. Opening either front door will cancelthis feature.Ignition Switch Positions1 — Lock2 — Acc3 — On4 — Start For vehicles equipped with the EVIC, features such asthe power window switches, radio, power sunroof orSky Slider威 (if equipped), and power outlets willremain active for up to 10 minutes after the ignitionswitch is turned to the LOCK position. Opening eitherfront door will cancel this feature. The time for thisfeature is programmable. Refer to “Electronic stomer-Programmable Features)” in “Understanding Your Instrument Panel” for further information.2

14THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLEWARNING! Never leave children alone in a vehicle. Leavingunattended children in a vehicle is dangerous for anumber of reasons. A child or others could beseriously or fatally injured. Don’t leave the keys inthe ignition. A child could operate power windows, other controls, or move the vehicle. Do not leave children or animals inside parkedvehicles in hot weather. Interior heat build-up maycause serious injury or death.CAUTION!An unlocked vehicle is an invitation to thieves.Always remove the key from the ignition, and lockall doors when leaving the vehicle unattended.Key-In-Ignition ReminderIf you open the driver’s door and the key is in theignition, a chime will sound to remind you to remove thekey.NOTE: The Key-In-Ignition reminder only soundswhen the ignition key is placed in the LOCK or ACCposition.SENTRY KEY姞The Sentry Key威 Immobilizer System prevents unauthorized vehicle operation by disabling the engine. Thesystem does not need to be armed or activated. Operationis automatic, regardless of whether the vehicle is lockedor unlocked.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLEThe system uses ignition keys that have an embeddedelectronic chip (transponder) to prevent unauthorizedvehicle operation. Therefore, only keys that are programmed to the vehicle can be used to start and operatethe vehicle. Duplication of keys may be performed at an authorizeddealer or by following the customer key programmingCustomer Key ProgrammingIf you have two valid Sentry Keys威, you can programnew Sentry Keys威 to the system by performing thefollowing procedure:1. Cut the additional Sentry Key威 Transponder blank(s)to match the ignition switch lock cylinder key code.2. Insert the first valid key into the ignition switch. Turnthe ignition switch to the ON/RUN position for at leastthree seconds, but no longer than 15 seconds. Then, turnthe ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove thefirst key.

After 10 seconds, a chime will sound. Inaddition, the Vehicle Security Light will begin to flash.Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position andremove the second key.17Repeat this procedure to program up to eight keys. If youdo not have a programmed Sentry Key威, contact yourauthorized dealer for details.NOTE: If a programmed key is lost, see your authorizeddealer to have all remaining keys erased from the system’s memory. When the Vehicle Security Alarm is armed, the interiorpower door lock switches will not unlock the doors.To Disarm The SystemEither press the UNLOCK button on the RKE transmitteror insert a valid Sentry Key威 into the ignition lockcylinder and turn the key to the ON/RUN position.Tamper AlertIf something has triggered the Vehicle Security Alarm inyour absence, the horn will sound three times andexterior lights blink three times when you unlock thedoors. Check the vehicle for tampering.The Vehicle Security Alarm is designed to protect yourvehicle; however, you can create conditions where theVehicle Security Alarm will give you a false alarm.
