SECONDHAND TRACTOR IMPORTSANDPARTS AVAILABILITY & SUPPLYOver recent years, a number of companies have been importing secondhand Japanese tractors for resale in Australia, with Iseki, Kubota, Yanmarand Mitsubishi being the main brands involved.Most of these machines are models not common to tractor models currentlyand previously imported and marketed by the authorised distributors ofthese brands in Australia. Therefore, accurate parts interpretation and partsavailability comes into question as these machines were predominantly soldin the domestic Japanese market, not exported.In 1992, Massey Ferguson-Iseki Australia Limited made a clear statementregarding the ability, or otherwise, of our company to correctly identify andsource parts suitable for machines that we did not import, and for which wehave no liability.With a recent surge in requests for parts interpretation and parts availabilityinformation for these second hand / imported machines, it is an opportunetime to clarify our situation.Recent correspondence from Iseki states — “We have not exported thesemodels to any other country, we only sell them in Japan. We (Iseki) have apolicy that where we have not exported a model we will not export any ofthe spare parts. Also, we are unable to send you parts books as they areprinted only in Japanese.”As a guide, the index of models on the contents page of this publication is acomplete list of all models imported by AGCO Australia Limited and itspredecessors, Massey Ferguson-Iseki Australia Limited. Should you have arequest for parts on a model that is not listed, it is in your best interests to behonest with the customer, if he can supply part numbers for service part andthe like and AGCO stock the lines, then they can be ordered, but be awarethat any part that is not a stock line will not be returnable and a handlingcharge will apply to others.Whilst we can understand the frustration experienced by some dealers whenpressured by a customer for parts assistance for these second hand /imported machines, please be aware that the inability of our company toidentify and source these parts is totally beyond our control.Yours sincerely,David V.
