Stabilizer Major ComponentsMain EquipmentThe main equipment items in the liquid product stabilizing system are listedbelow. Depending of the specifics of installation, some of them may beoptional, or other items may be included.Inlet Flash SeparatorSolids FilterLiquid-Liquid CoalescerFeed/Bottoms ExchangerStabilizer Tower, THeat Medium Expansion TankStabilizer ReboilerProduct CoolerHeat Medium PumpsHeat Medium HeaterThe purpose of the liquid product stabilizing system is to reduce the Vaporpressure of the hydrocarbon liquid by removing lighter components, suchas methane, ethane, propane, and butane from a hydrocarbon liquidstream introduced at the Hydrocarbon Inlet to the stabilizer system. This isnecessary to make a product that can be stored and transported in vesselsat atmospheric pressure. The high feed pressure drops in the pressure let down valve beforeentering the inlet 3-phase separator. The inlet 3-phase separator removesgas and free water from the inlet stream prior to contact with downstreamsystem components.

Stabilizer Major ComponentsThe Hydrocarbon liquid from the 3-phase separator is preheated by heatexchanger with the liquid from the Stabilizer Reboiler through theFeed/Bottoms Exchangers before it is introduced to the Stabilizer Tower. In the Stabilizer Tower heavier components from the hydrocarbon liquidsare concentrated in the bottom product of the Stabilizer Tower andlighter components are stripped from the hydrocarbon liquids and areconcentrated in the top outlet stream of the tower. The tower works by separating the lighter and heavier components bydifferences in the boiling temperatures of the components. Lightercomponents boil at lower temperatures and heavier components boil athigher temperatures. A temperature gradient is established in thestabilizer tower by adding heat to the bottom of the tower through thereboiler. As the liquid flows down through the tower, it gets warmer as it contactsvapor rising from the reboiler. As the vapor rises up through the tower, itwill get cooler due to contact with the cooler liquids from the top of thetower. The tower contains 20 valve trays and on each tray the vapor from thetray below mixes with the liquid from the tray above. At each tray in thetower the lighter components concentrate in the vapor and the heaviercomponents concentrate in the liquid. As the liquid reaches the bottomof the tower, most of the lighter components have been removed. Theliquid from the bottom tray is partially vaporized in the reboiler.Vapor from the reboiler enters the bottom of the tower and liquid exitingthe reboiler is the stabilized liquid product and is sent to thefeed/bottoms exchangers to be cooled and to heat the incoming Feed tothe stabilizer tower.

Stabilizer Major ComponentsThe heat needed to stabilize the hydrocarbon liquid is provided byheat medium (a blend of 30% glycol and water) flowing through thetube bundle in the Stabilizer Reboiler. The reboiler is a kettle type exchanger, which is divided into twosections: the tube section where the tube bundle is located and thesurge section where the stabilized product collects. The two sectionsare separated by an internal weir that maintains the level in the tubesection above the tube bundle.Liquid flows by gravity from the bottom of the Stabilizer Tower into theshell section of the reboiler . In the shell section, the liquid is heatedand partially vaporized. The vapor exits the top of the reboiler andreturns to the tower. The remaining liquid overflows the weir andcollects in the surge section of the reboiler. This is the unit's stabilizedhydrocarbon liquid product. The hot liquid product is cooled by heat exchange with the stabalizerfeed stream in the Stabilizer Feed/Bottoms Exchanger. The cooledliquid product then flows to product storage via product cooler.

It is a condensate collection point for the steam generator. From the condenser, the condensate flows into the condensate pump and then through the other components in the condensate system. In order to protect pumps from overheating and to prevent cavitation, Fisher condensate pump recirculation valves withstand varying

of steam is removed, the condensate will be close to the saturation temperature corresponding to the steam pressure in the heat exchanger shell. Slight sub-cooling of the condensate will occur before exiting from the shell. A steam trap is installed in the condensate outlet piping. The traps function is to drain condensate but to prevent live

ABOVE: Sherman Morgan was the most prominent son of the Justin Morgan horse (American Horses and Horse Breeding). Sherman Morgan was foaled about 1808 in Lyndon, Vermont during the time David Goss kept the original Justin Morgan horse. Justin Morgan, by that time, was 19 years old and his colts were very much valued.
