PrerequisitesThe following requirements must be met before installing the Rapid Deployment Pack SIMIntegration Module. If you plan to install Rapid Deployment Pack—Windows Edition and HP SIM on thesame server, and you plan to use Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE),you must install MSDE and Rapid Deployment Pack—Windows Edition from the RapidDeployment Pack—Windows Edition CD 1 before installing HP SIM. Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 must be installed. This software is available from theRapid Deployment Pack—Windows Edition CD 1. HP SIM 4.2 must be installed with both OpenSSH and Windows ManagementInstrumentation (WMI) Mapper. This software is available from theHP Management CD.IMPORTANT: If HP SIM 4.2 is installed on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 system and alocal administrator account does not exist or has been renamed, refer to Secure Shell (SSH) inHP Systems Insight Manager located on the Management CD or ement/hpsim/infolibrary.html#whitepapers. InstallationComplete the following procedures to install the Rapid Deployment Pack SIMIntegration Module.1. Log in to the HP SIM Central Management Server (CMS) under the account that wasused to install HP SIM. Normally, this account is the local administrator account.2. Insert the Rapid Deployment Pack—Windows Edition CD 1 into the CD-ROM drive.3. Run [CD-ROM drive:]\sim\setup.exe.4. Enter the name and password entered during the HP SIM installation. Configuration1. Download and install the Altiris Deployment Server Web Console ActiveX control on theHP SIM CMS.a. Access the Deployment ServerWeb Console using either of the following methods:— From the HP SIM console, select Deploy Rapid Deployment Pack LaunchWeb Console.— Open Microsoft Internet Explorer, and accesshttp://IPaddress/DSWeb/default.aspx, where IPaddress is the IP address of theDeployment Server Web Console.b. When prompted for the AltirisNSConsole.cab control, click Yes.2. In the HP SIM console, disable the automatic server blade discovery feature.a. Select Options Discovery Automatic Discovery.b. Deselect the Automatically discover a server blade when its Integrated LightsOut management processor is identified checkbox.c. 3. If you have enabled security in the Deployment Server Console, modify thesynchronization utility configuration file with your console name and password.a. From a text editor, open the .\hpwebadmin\webapps\root\mxport\dobby\scan.xml file,located in the HP SIM installation directory.b. Change the lines: dsconsolecredentials name /name password /password /dsconsolecredentials to: dsconsolecredentials name myname /name password mypassword /password /dsconsolecredentials where myname and mypassword are the name and password of a Deployment ServerConsole account with administrator-level privileges.4. If you plan to deploy servers using Linux or VMware scripted install jobs, perform thefollowing steps on the Deployment Server to enable HP SIM to identify these serversafter deployment:a. From a text editor, open the .\lib\software\yyyy\rdpinstall.dat file, where yyyy is theProLiant Support Pack.b. Refer to the instructions in the file to add the appropriate SNMP information.c. Using the Rapid Deployment Pack SIM Integration ModuleWith the Rapid Deployment Pack SIM Integration Module, you can: Obtain information about new, undeployed servers from the Altiris Deployment Serverdatabase and import that information into the HP SIM database Select one or more undeployed servers in the HP SIM console and use the AltirisDeployment Wizard to schedule a job on those serversThe following menu items and associated task are integrated into the HP SIM console toolbarwith the installation of the Rapid Deployment Pack SIM Integration Module.HP ProLiant Essentials Rapid Deployment Pack SIM Integration Module Installation and User Guide15

Synchronize with Deployment ServersThe Synchronize with Deployment Server task collects server information from theDeployment Server database and imports this information into the HP SIM database.After the Rapid Deployment Pack SIM Integration Module is installed, the synchronizationtask executes immediately and then automatically executes every 15 minutes.To change the frequency at which the synchronization task executes:1. Select Logs View All Schedule Tasks, and select the Synchronize with DeploymentServers task.2. Click Edit, change the schedule frequency as necessary, and click Done.To manually run the synchronization task at a time other than that which is scheduled, either:16 Select Logs View All Scheduled Tasks, and select the Synchronize with DeploymentServers task. Click Run Now to run the task immediately. Select Deploy Rapid Deployment Pack Synchronize with Deployment Servers tocreate a new task, either designating a time to run the task or clicking Run Now to runthe task immediately.HP ProLiant Essentials Rapid Deployment Pack SIM Integration Module Installation and User Guide

Schedule a JobThe Schedule a Job menu item enables you to schedule a Rapid Deployment Pack job to runon undeployed servers.NOTE: A maximum of 24 undeployed servers can be selected at a time from this menu item.NOTE: All the jobs on the Deployment Server are displayed. HP recommends selecting a job thatdeploys an operating system.To schedule a job from the HP SIM console:1. Select Deploy Rapid Deployment Pack Schedule a Job.2. Select the checkbox next to the undeployed servers on which to run the job, and clickApply Selections.3. Verify that the correct servers are displayed in the list, click Change Targets if it isnecessary to go back and reselect servers, and then click Run Now.HP ProLiant Essentials Rapid Deployment Pack SIM Integration Module Installation and User Guide17

4. If prompted for Windows credentials, provide credentials that can be validated by theMicrosoft Internet Information Services (IIS) installed on the Deployment ServerWeb Console.5. At the Altiris Deployment Wizard, expand the Deployment Server node to display the listof available jobs. Select the appropriate deployment job, and click Next.6. 7. On the final page of the Altiris scheduling wizard, click the Status column header toupdate the job status. Job status can also be viewed from the Deployment Server Consoleor the Deployment Server Web Console.8. Click Close to close the Altiris Deployment Wizard.When the deployment job is complete, HP SIM identifies the server, and the updated serverinformation appears in the HP SIM console.Launch Web ConsoleThe Launch Web Console menu item provides a convenient shortcut to the full AltirisDeployment Server Web Console. To launch the Deployment Server Web Console from theHP SIM console, select Deploy Rapid Deployment Pack Launch Web Console.
