Vari-Green Motor and ControlsVari-Green ControlsTransformer - Provides 24V power from the existingline voltage at the fan to the Vari-Green motor andcontrols. Dual voltage primary (120/240V) transformerprovided with the fan.Remote Dial - Allows for remote, manual airflowadjustments. Wall plate with dial may be mounted in astandard 2x4 inch electrical junction box.Two Speed Control - Control allows motor rpm to beset at two independent speeds (high or low). Meetsminimum airflow requirements with the ability to bumpup to high speed in an emergency or meet maximumairflow requirements, or reset down to low speed forenergy conservation.Vari-Green MotorEC Motor Technology Information & Advantages Greenheck’s Vari-Green (VG) Electronically Commutated(EC) motor combines motor technology, controllabilityand energy-efficiency into one single low maintenanceunit and is the industry's first fully controllable motor. The EC motor operates on AC power that is convertedto DC – providing more efficient motor operation ascompared to an AC operation. The controllability of theVari-Green motor allows communication compatibilitywith a variable volume system. This allows speedadjustment of the motor to meet the needs of thesystem to exhaust air as needed and reduce overexhausting conditioned air.Available Vari-Green Controls and GVOCXTemperature/HumidityXTwo-SpeedXRemote DialXTouch RemoteXConstant PressureXTransformerXBuilt-in Time DelayXBuilt-in Two SpeedXConstant AirflowXX Multifamily structures including apartments, condos, hotels; residential kitchens and bathrooms Institutional facilities such as schools, prisons, multistory office buildings; bathroomsAir Quality, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) Control a Vari-Green motor via changes in VOCs. Sound and Fan SelectionThings to know when sound is criticalSound DataThe sound data shown in this catalog has beenpresented to aid the system designer in selecting afan which will meet the desired sound criteria. Sonelevels have been included on the performance pagesto provide a means of quickly evaluating the relativeloudness of a fan selection. What is a sone?Sones are an internationally recognized unit ofloudness. In practical terms, the loudness of onesone is equivalent to the sound of a quiet refrigeratormeasured from five feet away in an acoustically averageroom. A sone is a single number rating, indicating theinlet noise derived from the eight audible octave bands.Sones are a linear measurement of sound level. Forexample, a sound level of 10 sones is twice as loud as5 sones. Can radiated noise increase sound levels?Radiated noise from fan housings can causeunacceptable sound levels on any brand of fan. Thesize of these fans allows them to be placed in areaswhere this noise will be transmitted to the conditionedspace through walls or ceilings. Where possible, cabinet fans should be located in remote parts of theventilation system.Where should an SP or CSP fan be used?Model SP and CSP fans are designed for the lowestpossible sound levels. Forward-curved wheels, insulated housings and vibration isolators betweenthe motor and housing contribute to quiet, efficientoperation. Applied and installed as recommended, SPand CSP sound levels will fall well within the rangesshown in the Suggested Limits for Room Loudnesschart. For applications where sound levels are critical,a remote mounted CSP with ductboard isrecommended. Placement of SP and CSP fans shouldtake into account the desired sound level at thelocation of the listener. The compact size of the SP and CSP fans providesthe system designer greater flexibility in locating thesefans for lowest sound levels. Incritical sound areas, insulatedductwork, flexible ductFiberglassconnections, or placingRemotethe fan in a remotemountedmodel CSPsection of the ductworkwith vibrationisolators and(away from the criticalinsulatedductworkarea) offers the bestprovidesmeans of meetingthe quietestinstallation.desired sound levels. Why are low sound levels important? The main application of a ceiling exhaust fan under200 cfm is typically to exhaust odor and humid air froma bathroom. If a bathroom fan is excessively loud, theoccupant will seldom use it. Lack of proper ventilationmay lead to a variety of concerns including damageto finishes, walls, ceilings and even health issues.Greenheck is proud to offer some of the quietest fanson the market. Why is Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) important?According to the United States EnvironmentalProtection Agency (EPA), the concentration of somepollutants are often 2 to 5 times higher indoors thanoutdoors. The average American spends approximately90% of their time indoors, so IAQ is extremelyimportant. Poor moisture control may lead to moldand mildew issues that may cause health concerns.Seemingly harmless items such as building materials, personal care items and cleaning agents may contributeto poor IAQ. Greenheck ceiling exhaust fans areguaranteed to effectively exhaust moisture and odorsfrom your bathroom.Suggested Limits for Room 1-583-944-604-2 48-645-15 51-677-21 56-72Private homes (rural and suburban)Conference roomsHotel rooms, libraries, movie theatres, executive officesSchools and classrooms, hospital wards and operating roomsCourt rooms, museums, apartment houses, private homes(urban)Restaurants, lobbies, general open offices, banksCorridors and halls, cocktail lounges, washrooms and toiletsHotel kitchens and laundries, supermarketsReprinted from AMCA Publication 302 (Application of Sone Ratings for Non-ductedAir Moving Devices, with room-sone-dBA correlations) with the written permission fromAMCA International, Inc., 30 West University Drive, Arlington Heights, IL 60004-1893.NOTE: Values above are for room loudness and are not sound ratings. Room loudness isthe resulting level in a conditioned space after the acoustical qualities of the room havebeen accounted for.8When room sound levels are critical, suchas in executive offices, conference rooms, hospital operating rooms, and school studyareas, a CSP fan is the best choice. Shownhere is a comparison of SP and CSP fansof the same size, with equal performance intypical installations. The CSP shows lowersone A4104031/810001.5Sone value on CSP is with insulated inlet duct.

ENERGY STAR Codes and StandardsENERGY STAR is a market-based partnership formed to reducegreenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency and make iteasier for consumers to identify energy-efficient products that offersavings, performance, features, and comfort. To earn the ENERGY STAR label, products must meet strict energyefficient standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) for energy consumption, air and sound performance. Fanmodels that are ENERGY STAR certified are identified in this catalog.Note: ENERGY STAR is only for products 500 cfm or less.Codes and StandardsProducts that earn the ENERGY STAR prevent greenhouse gas emissionsby meeting strict energy efficiencyguidelines set by the U.S. EnvironmentalProtection Agency and the U.S.Department of Energy.Fans that are ENERGY STAR certified include: SP-A70,SP-A90, SP-A110, SP-A125, SP-A190, SP-A200, SP-A250,SP-B50, SP-B70, SP-B80, SP-B90, SP-B110ES, SP-L50,SP-L80, SP-80-VG, SP-80L-VG, SP-110-VG, SP-A50-90-VG,SP-A90-130-VG, CSP-A110, CSP-A125, CSP-A200,CSP-A390-VGASHRAE 62.2 sets the minimum Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) standards and minimum ventilation rates in commercial andresidential buildings. This standard is used as the basis for state and local building codes such as the WashingtonState Energy Code. Select Greenheck fans are able to provide low speed continuous ventilation and cycle to highspeed upon activation of a switch or a sensor.California Title 24 states that each bathroom shall be mechanically ventilated and shall comply with the following:Fans shall be ENERGY STAR compliant and be ducted to terminate outside the building. Unless functioning as acomponent of a whole house ventilation system, fans must be controlled by a humidity control. Humidity controlsshall be capable of adjustment between a relative humidity range of less than or equal to 50 percent to a maximumof 80 percent.Multiple Greenheck ceiling exhaust fans can be used to comply with these latest codes and standards.Model Number CodeThe model number code system is designed to completely identify the fan. The remainder of the model code isdetermined by the size and performance of the fan.SP - A 50 ES L - VGModelSP - Silent PartnerCSP - Cabinet Silent PartnerLevel of Construction No letter designation identifies model as Premium Pluswith a Vari-Green motorA - Premium unit; lowest sound, insulated housingB - Deluxe unit; low sound, low profileL - Low Profile, ceiling/wall mountedC - Economy unit; inexpensiveVari-Green EC Motor OptionENERGYSTAR Light OptionsLED - Fan/Light (LED) CombinationNominal cfm at 0.10 inches static pressure9
