Installing INLINE 5INLINE 5 runs on the following Windows operating systems: Windows XP and Windows XP x64 Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Windows Vista and Windows Vista 64-bit Windows 7 If using a previous version of The INLNE 5 Software: It is not necessary to uninstall previous versions of the INLINE 5 software before installing the newversion. The new version will automatically upgrade the currently installed version.Note: The INLINE 5 Software must be installed prior to connecting the adapter to the PC.Before beginning: 1Close any programs being used.Ensure the adapter is not connected to the PC.To begin:1. Insert the INLINE 5 Software CD into the CD-ROM drive.2. The installation process should start up automatically.Note: It might take 30-60 seconds for the Installation menu to appear, depending on the processor and speed ofthe PC.If the Installation menu does not appear automatically:1. Click, then Run.2. In the Open: box, type D:\CD-Start.exe. (If your CD-ROM uses a drive other than D, substitute the correctdrive letter.)3. Clickto open the menu, then choose “Inline 5.6.3.1 Setup - 32 Bit.exe” if the PC has a 32-bitOperating System and “Inline 5.6.3.1 Setup - 64 Bit.exe” if the PC has a 64-bit Operating SystemNote: If installing the INLINE 5 Software from the inline.cummins.com website, select “Inline 5.6.3.1 Setup - 32Bit.exe” if the PC has a 32-bit Operating System and “Inline 5.6.3.1 Setup - 64 Bit.exe” if the PC has a 64-bitOperating System.2The Install Shield Wizard automatically begins preparingthe installation. The bar displays the Wizard’sprogress.2
Installing INLINE 5 (continued)3In the Welcome screen, clickOr, clickWindows.to continue.to exit Setup and return toNote: Clickin any of the INLINE 5 Setupwindows to stop the installation and exit INLINE 5 Setup.4Clickto begin the installation process.Note: Clickin any of the Setup Wizardwindows to return to the previous window.5The Setup Status bar displays progress as INLINE 5 filesare installed on the hard disk.3
Installing INLINE 5 (continued)5aIf at anytime the following window appears during theinstallation, click on Continue Anyway.6The INLINE 5 Software has been successfully installed.Clickto return to Windows.The INLINE 5 Adapter firmware can be updated at thispoint.Note: If the INLINE 5 Adapter firmware is 5.45, theupdate is not necessary.if update of the INLINE 5 AdapterClickfirmware is not necessary at this time.6aTo reflash the INLINE 5 Adapter firmware check the boxand click.Note: Please refer to the INLINE 5 Adapter Reflashinstructions in order to update the INLINE 5 Adapterfirmware.4

This can be done byconnecting the adapter to a Cummins Engine.The INLINE 5 Adapter USB Driver must be installed ifusing a USB cable to connect through the USB port onthe PC.When connecting to the INLINE 5 Adapter for the first timeusing a USB cable, the Found New Hardware Wizardwindow is displayed.Select Install the software automatically (Recommended)and click.Note: This is not necessary if using a RS-232 Serial cableand connecting through the COM port on the PC.8The Status bar displays progress as the USB driver isinstalled.9If at anytime the following window appears during theinstallation, click on Continue Anyway.5
Installing INLINE 5 (continued)10The USB driver for the INLINE 5 Adapter has beensuccessfully installed.The INLINE 5 adapter is now ready for use.Clickto return to Windows.Note: If there are more than one USB port on the PC,connect the Adapter to the other ports and repeat theprocedure from step 7. This will configure other USB portson the PC.Removing INLINE 5 DriverUse these steps to remove INLINE 5 Software from the PC.1Click2Open the Add/Remove Programs icon.3Select Cummins INLINE 5 from the list, and click4When removal is complete, close all windows to return to the Windows desktop., then Control Panel. Follow any additional prompts, as required.6
