Thesetransmitters are seismically qualified for use in Class1E safety related applications per IEEE Std 344-1987at SSE response spectrum levels up to 16.5g’s, andper IEEE Std 323-1983 (mild environment).FIGURE 1. Performance andreliability improvements over traditional designs areachieved by moving the transmitter sensor from theflange interface into the module neck, thereby reducingflange stress, thermal, and process interface effects.The Coplanar sensor platform also allows greaterflexibility in process interfaces and mountingconfigurations.For differential and gauge pressure measurements,the Rosemount 3051N utilizes capacitance sensortechnology similar to that of the Rosemount 1151,1152, 1153, and 1154 transmitters (see Figure 1).Rosemount capacitance technology delivers thehighest inherent performance, stability and reliabilityin the process industry as proven in millions ofinstallations worldwide.2SiliconeOilIsolatingDiaphragms

Product Data Sheet00813-0100-4808, Rev FAJune 2008Rosemount 3051NDuring operation, process pressure is transmittedthrough isolating diaphragms and silicone oil fill fluidto a center diaphragm in the alpha-cell capacitancesensor (see Figure 1). The displacement of thecenter diaphragm is proportional to the pressuredifferential across it. The position of the centerdiaphragm is detected through differentialcapacitance between it and capacitor plates locatedon each side. The differential capacitance isprocessed electronically through a microprocessor toa 2 wire 4–20mA (digital) HART (HighwayAddressable Remote Transducer) output signal.Each unit completes a compensation and verificationprocess during manufacturing where the uniquesensor characteristics are measured over pressureand temperature and retained in the device tooptimize performance over a wide operating range.FIGURE 2.
