Flygt TOP performanceJust how effective is the patented Flygt TOP sumpgeometry when compared with older sump designs? Anextensive series of tests were conducted to arrive at thesump design, investigating a wide range of parameters.Factors such as floor clearances and the spacingbetween adjacent pumps were also evaluated before theself-cleaning sump design was finalised.Then, in a series of performance tests conducted underlaboratory conditions, sumps with different diametersand floor configurations were tested to gauge theirability to prevent sludge build-up and efficiency intransporting solids.Top viewThe standard pump sumpdesign for 30 years. This meant thatthe two sumps were interconnected, filled with 800 litersof water, and 49 kg of solids were put into each sump.The water was then pumped back and forth betweenthe two sumps a total of ten times. It operates completelyautomatically, controlled by the pressuredeveloped by the pump at the startof each duty cycle.At the start of eachcycle, the valve isopen and water isforced through it in apowerful jet stream, causingintense turbulence that re-suspendssolids so that they can be pumpedaway. The valve closes automatically afterapproximately 30 seconds, and then reopens after thepump stops, ready for the next cycle.N-techniqueThe Flygt TOP sump design clears sludge and solidsfrom your pump station at the same rate as theyenter it. But what happens when certain typesof solids or fibrous materials threaten to blockthe impeller?Flygt N-pumps maintain a high level ofpumping efficiency, even in fluids with a highcontent of solids and fibrous materials, thanksto the impeller shape in combination with aspecial relief groove in the volute. With itsself-cleaning flow path through the pump, this designgreatly reduces the risk of clogging. The result isreduced power consumption, even under the mostadverse conditions.Monitoring and controlXylem also supplies Flygt control panels for yourpump station. These range from the simplest electromechanical type with start and stop functions activatedby a level switch; to highly sophisticated monitoring andcontrol systems using the Flygt FMC, which includessensors and alarms, and provides statistics and trendreports. The Flygt FMC can also communicate with aSCADA system, enabling full remote control of yourpump station.In addition, all Flygtcontrol panels canbe equipped with afunction that runsregular pumpcleaning cyclesautomatically (APF).All Flygt controlpanels can bemounted indoors,or in an outdoorenclosure.5
