Rick stated that his fatherserved in WWII, and his grandfather in WWI.An Akron Public Schools teacher for more than 37 years, and a landscaper, Rick is now retired, and moved fromTallmadge to his Kenmore home earlier this summer. “I taught many students over the years who are now veterans”he said, “I’m not looking for any recognition, but this is just my way of saying thanks to all who served.”

In 2010 curbside collection went to single stream recycling.Single stream recycling means you can mix all recyclables together in a clear plastic bag. Recyclablesare the leftover packaging from food and beverage products purchased at the grocery store.INTERIOR &EXTERIOR DETAIL2256 Manchester Road330-620-9631Cars are 110 with coupon.Trucks, Vans & SUV’s are 130 with coupon. What is recyclable? All types of paper (junk mail, magazines, and newspaper), broken downcardboard, metal cans, glass jars and bottles, rigid plastics (excluding plastic bags, lids to bottles, and Styrofoam), and cartons can be mixed together and placed in the blue carts on recycling day.Akron residents are strongly urged to avoid placing the wrong items in the recycling bin. “It is veryimportant in a single stream recycling program for safety of the workers at the materials recoveryfacility (MRF) and for the marketability of the recyclables to recycle right” states Yolanda Walker,Executive Director for ReWorks. ReWorks has partnered with the city to look for ways to reducecontamination starting with assessing recycling carts at the curb. “If Akron residents are placing incorrectitems in their recycling carts they will be notified,” states Paul Barnett, Akron Public Works Manager.Items that DO NOT go in the recycling cart are:ElectronicsAuto partsPlastic bagsGarden hosesHangersSyringesYard WasteFoodStyrofoamPickup & delivery available from home or office.ShoesChainsMirrorsCartons have been added to the program’s material list this year. Milk cartons, juice boxes andsoup cartons are packaged in a paper board material that is easy to recycle and is in high demand.Once cartons are placed at the curb along with the other recyclables they are taken to the WasteManagement’s GreenStar MRF in Akron, where they are bailed and shipped to paper mills to bemade into new products such as tissue or recycled paper. For additional information regarding Akron curbside program call 311. Most mealswere cooked in the kitchen of Rachel Jones, a Kenmore resident andmother of four young children ages 1 month to 8 years. She, along withher husband Doug, head up a ministry to the Kenmore Fighting Cardinalsevery Wednesday evening at First Glance. This began two years ago when Doug Jones approached former coach EdPeltz about how First Glance could support the team. They concludeda team dinner would be instrumental in providing a time for the team tosocialize and become unified. The team respectfully listened to speakers upon their arrival. They heardfrom Mike Freeman, Jon Swires, Randy Fairfax, Ray Jeske, Mike Peterson,Mike McFarren, and Don Plusquellic. What is success, overcomingdisappointments, leaving a legacy, manning up to your decisions, andgreatness were some of the topics shared. The hope was that the teamwould apply what was said to their games, in the classroom, and to their lives. After the speakers, the team enjoyed their dinner served by Veronicaand Joe Schmidtke, Susan Lewis, Don and Liz Flaker, Rachel Jones,Jessica Swiger, Barb Flynn, and Hannah Calhoun. The servers heardmany “thank you’s” from the players. This year a meeting of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) washeld for the players who voluntarily chose to stay. This was led by MikePeterson, Doug Jones and Hannah Calhoun. The participants receiveda Bible, discussed surrender, passion, commitment, and what followingChrist looks like. The members of this group were treated to a Cavspreseason game. They met Cavs players and heard from the Cavaliers’chaplain. These students have verbalized how FCA has made themconsider how their lives affect others. They have a strong desire for FCAto continue now that the football season has concluded. We’ve had a meaningful, successful 2013 season at First Glance sharinga meal each week with these young men, giving an opportunity topromote team unity
