Tim will assist with the affiliation andwork on specific corporate-wide strategic initiatives.We caught up with him recently to ask about hisremarkable career.Activity Committee members Vernetta, Jenni and Bridget Weese enjoy somefamily time while creating gifts for Lakeside Oasis residents.It’s All About Connectionsat Immanuel Lutheran ChurchThough Jenni Weese lost her father to cancer, the kindness of hospice professionals who caredfor him made a lasting impression. Jenni wanted to help others in hospice, and as a member ofthe activities committee at Immanuel Church in Buffalo, began thinking about how to involvecongregants. She found a solution after attending a fundraiser at Lakeside Oasis, which is partof Buffalo’s Lake Ridge Care Center and provides comfort care for those facing the end of life.The church requested and received seed money from Thrivent Financial in 2016 to create fleeceblankets for hospice residents, along with nightgowns, pillowcases, bibs, lap blankets and welcomebags for families. Today, you can hear Mim playingat our Minneapolis campus events.After marrying and raising a family, Mim became a kindergarten teacher for twenty years. Whenshe and her husband grew older they moved to Augustana Apartments of Minneapolis, knowingmore comprehensive care was available if they needed it.What thoughts do you have for non-profitsto address the unique needs of older adults?Though Mim moved to another care community about a year ago, she returned to AugustanaApartments because she missed us. “People here are so friendly,” she says. “There’s somethingabout being in a Christian atmosphere that also made me want to come back.”We should continue to be innovative anddevelop services that surround the corebusiness we have become known for, whilepursuing partnerships and collaborationswith other like-minded organizations.We too missed Mim’s beautiful playing and her bubbly energy. Numerous studies cited by the Center for Medicare Advocacy show nonprofits rank higherthan for-profit organizations for the quality of care they provide.Staff’s dedication to residents’ well being is part of a long tradition of service. We look forwardto extending that tradition to people of every faith in Florida.Mim Manfred shares her talent for playing piano often at our Minneapolis campus.
