WHAT IS A PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIANA PCP is a doctor that coordinates your medical care. It is important to have a good relationship withyour PCP. They are a great resource when you have questions about your health. Total Health CareUSA recommends that you schedule an appointment with your PCP as soon as possible. This willgive your PCP a chance to assess your health.If you decide a different PCP is better for you, and would like to change, call us by the end of themonth. This ensures you will be able to see your new PCP starting the 1st of the following month.WHAT IS A SPECIALTY CARE PROVIDERA specialty care provider is a doctor that specializes in conditions that may be outside of the scope ofyour PCP. If you are a new member, and have been receiving care from a specialty care provider,you must notify your PCP as soon as possible for coordination of care.There are services performed by specialty care providers that may require a referral. Be sure tocontact your PCP before making an appointment for specialty care to determine if a referral isrequired.HOW TO ACCESS EMERGENCY SERVICESYou are always covered in case of a medical emergency. If you have a life-threatening emergency,go immediately to the nearest emergency room or call 9-1-1.If you’re unsure if the condition requires emergency care, call your doctor for assistance. If yourdoctor’s office is closed, Total Health Care USA has a Nurse Advice Line that is available to give youaround-the-clock medical information and advice. A nurse can recommend if an appointment withyour doctor, after hours/urgent care, or if the emergency room is the better place for treatment.
