A HARMONIOUS MIX OFWOOD AND METALSURROUNDS THE ICONICSPHERESuspended over two levels at the heart of the facility isthe iconic LED Sphere, which incorporates the very bestin visualisation technology, enabling students to streamcontent using their own devices, via an interactive wallscreen.CHALLENGESA ceiling to complement the facilitiy’s main attraction wasno easy feat. A requirement for a contemporary visual, high sound absorption, concealed suspension, yetunrestricted access to services was not just aconsideration but a non negotiable.SOLUTIONSAn Armstrong MetalWorks RH-215 Mesh Ceiling Systemfeatures above the Sphere. White Optra infill panelscomplete the Rhombic 7 Mesh ceiling, absorbing 85% ofreflected sound, enhancing the environment both visuallyand acoustically. The Mesh Panels simply hook on to theconcealed suspension system and are easily demounted, ensuring simple access to services above.WoodWorks Solid Blackbutt Grille Wall Panels provide awarm and inviting backdrop to the interactive digital wallscreen. Applied floor to ceiling around the buildingservices core, the WoodWorks Grille Panels are producedfrom sustainably sourced Australian Backbutt.7

TEACHING SPACESConfigured to accommodate both face to face and on-line learning, teaching spaces are fully equipped with advanced audio-visualtechnology. To ensure ease of access and maintenance to AV and other services, WoodWorks Solid Blackbutt Grille Tegular acousticalceilings, suspended on semi-concealed Black PeakForm 24mm Tee Grid, incorporate shallow and light weight access panels. TheWoodWorks Grille Access Panels were custom designed to comply with QUT’s Occupational Health and Safety maximum weight limit of3.8kg per panel.8

CREATIVE SPACESMetalWorks Rhombic Mesh ceilings with Optra infills give a bold industrial visual, complementing the elegant WoodWorks Grille WallPanels. Both ceilings and walls functional together to provide a sophisticated visual combined with high sound absorption performance, resulting in both visual and acoustical comfort, for these busy collaborative and private creative spaces.9

LOUNGE AND FUNCTION SPACESWoodworks Solid Blackbutt Grille panels provide design flexibility resulting in sophisticated, warm and inviting lounge and function spaces.Transitioning from the ceiling and down the walls, WoodWorks Grille panels effectively help to control noise reflected from hard surfacessuch as windows and flooring. The technical team at Armstrong developed bespoke solutions to seamlessly integrate each of the lighting, mechanical and electricalservices into the WoodWorks Grille ceiling panels that are screw fixed to a concealed structural grid system.10
