Part 1 Sample Essays Arranged by Topicnot be denied that genuine knowledge tells us how topractice. A systematic study in a college or a university, ofcourse, enables us to realize how the society works andhow to cope with certain problems arising from it in amore efficiently, and more skillful way.Second, a university education usually makes it possiblethat we get hold of a decent job. As a result of the accomplishment of a four-year study, it is not difficult for usto find a good job in most cases. How can we imaginethat a graduate majoring in astronomy has to be a vendorin the street! No doubt, he/she should sit in his/her laboratory, doing research on aircraft science before a computer. Obviously, a university education assures him/her adecent job.Last but not least, we can help others much better if weput what we have learned at a university into practice. Auniversity education fortifies our values, enhance ourskills, and broaden our horizons. With those, we aremore capable of giving a hand to those who are in needof help.Knowledge is power. When achieving a degree at a university, we can get a better understanding of the society, find a decent job in an easy way, and help others better. All of those are due to the knowledge learned at a university.Topic 1 Why go to university?University is no longer a fresh word to people nowadays.Since the beginning of this century, more and moreyoungsters choose to enter university after they havecompleted the study in high schools rather than to jointhe army or become an apprentice. Therefore, it is kindof interesting to find out the reason behind.First of all, students can only learn fundamental knowledge during high school while they are able to focus ontheir own interested majors in universities. This period isthe key to knowledge accumulation, which will contribute a lot to the future of an individual. Moreover, university is no doubt the symbol of high education. It offersmore than pure knowledge. A degree from a universitygives people certain identity that makes them stand outamong their competitors. It can be seen from the fact thatmost international companies will only hire those whohave at least a Bachelor's degree.Sincere dreams might also be the reason for university orcollege. For instance, in the 60s and 70s, people in Chinaexperienced hard times. Many of them had to give upadvanced education and take up the burdens of life attheir early age. Now, as they became parents or evengrandparents, their dream for university education hadno doubt realized by their younger family members. Those young people, as reported, often study very hardin order to fulfill the expectations of two generations. There is no doubt that university can be the turning pointof one's future, because higher education will providepeople with not only knowledge prepared for their careers, but also the fulfillment of their life goals. Meanwhile, the society has improved its strength to sponsorhigher education. Compared with the past, people nowattend universities also because they are able to securevarious scholarships and supports from different channels. A very good example is that many Chinese studentsare now studying in the U. S. Their incentive for application should be attributed to not only to their own performance but also the comprehensive education frameworks in the U. S.Broadly speaking, people who study in universities havetheir hopes: to fulfill themselves. At the same time, oursociety generously provides such an environment forpeople to achieve such goals. Therefore, when we seemore and more fresh smiles on the campus of universities, let us just wish them a promising future.Topic 2 Are parents best teachers?Obviously, the first teachers we have in our lives in mostcases are our parents. They teach us to walk, to speak, and to have good manners before we reach “the realworld. ” More than even the professional teachers that wehave at school, parents are generally the most involved inthe development and education of children.Almost for sure our parents are the best teachers at thebeginning of our lives, which actually corresponds to theparents' role in nature. Parents are most committed andinvolved in teaching their children; they have a kind ofinstinct to sacrifice a part of themselves for the betterment of their children. They love us and have great patience while passing down their knowledge to us. Theywish us a success and thus will not teach us bad things. And of course, implicit learning occurs when childrenunconsciously copy some of their parents' habits andstyles of behavior.During the second stage of child development, adolescence, parents can still be in the best position to offeradvice even though the children might not accept it. Inthis case, perhaps the child's friends would be the bestteachers. Adolescents are notoriously rebellious in manycultures and may automatically reject any advice fromtheir parents. My first marriage for instance, was solely amatter of doing the opposite when my parents tried tointrude in offering their advice. So in such matters, parents should be much more flexible and be rather thepartners with their children. So we can see that being ateacher of growing child become more and more complicated case as the time passes and many parents are simply not able to meet the increased demands. On the other hand, I would say that parents are not pro-Topic 1 Why go to university?A university degree often helps a person achieve his goalwith more ease. However, do we attend university just inpursuit of a degree? Does a university only provide usnothing beneficial besides a paper-made diploma? As faras I am concerned, we enjoy university education in thefollowing aspects:Firstly, with the knowledge learned at a university, wewill have a deep understanding of our society. It is truethat genuine knowledge comes from practice, but it can5ToeflEssays.com

So wishing good things and an easylife may prevent children from maturation. In any case, parents usually can present only one viewpoint of theworld, while good teaching should be based on differentattitudes. Thus, when children go to school and have agreat diversity of teachers, they learn much more thantheir parents could probably give them. Furthermore, once our parents get older, they become more conservative and cannot always be objective in regard to moderntrends and fashions. Thus we need to take their advicewith caution during that period. However, some kind ofintuition that I believe shared between relatives aboutwhat everybody needs and great love that exists in families still makes our parents very good teachers and advisers at any time.In conclusion, while parents are not the ideal teachers, and well-rounded children will generally need a greatdiversity of teachers in their lives in order to have a moreaccurate view of the world, parents are generally the mostcommitted of all teachers and have the greatest emotionalinvestment in their children and their future.Topic 2 Are parents best teachers?Parents are the most committed, the most influential, andalmost the best teachers any child can have. The amountof time a child interacts with parents makes them themost influential force in a child's life. The child gets tolearn the most basics of things like walking, speaking andinteracting with others. It is under the protections of parents that a child learns to behave in society and to comfort him or herself.Although parents are the most influential teachers intheir children's life, they may not be regarded as the bestteachers. Parents generally provide a biased view of theworld; they always favor their child, and thus they cannotprovide a complete panoramic view of the society. Alsoparents may set a bad example for their child by abusingand fighting amongst themselves. Psychologists and recent crime charts have proved that young outlaws generally come from disrespectful families, and have grown upin extreme environments.A child interacts with many kinds of teachers at schoolsand colleges. Although these teachers, being professionals, have limited time to devote to a child, they provide acomplete and diverse view to their students. They provide unbiased guidance to a child.During the years of adolescence, children tend to be aggressive and non-conforming to others' views. So parentsneed to act like friends rather than teachers. Eventually, itis the parents who provide an environment for a child todevelop and mature, and thus have the capacity to be thebest teachers to their child. What is important is to provide an unbiased view to their child, to motivate independent thinking and actuate timely maturation.Topic 2 Are parents best teachers? Our entire education system is based on what we accumulate each day of our life. In spite of the fact that schoolteachers are those who give us lots of information in avariety of fields, our parents are still the best teachers;they start their educational process as soon as we wereborn and never stop teaching us.In the initial years of our life, our parents are involved inguiding us, in modulating our personality and making usunderstand the differences between right and wrong. When I was five, my parents bought me a dog; theytaught me how to take care of him, feed him, play withhim and bath him. Thus, I learned that we all have responsibilities.Even if parents are not specialized in education, their rolein teaching the children to be aware of the need of improving their knowledge at school is tremendous. Ourparents are not supposed to teach us Math, Chemistry
