COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER //EILEEN DRAKECEO and President of Aerojet/RocketdyneEileen Drake has served as Chief Executive Officer and President of Aerojet/RocketdyneHoldings, Inc. since June 2015. She served as Chief Operating Officer of the Companyfrom March 2015 to June 2015. Ms. Drake was previously with United TechnologiesCorporation (“UTC”) where she served as president of Pratt & Whitney AeroPower’sauxiliary power unit and small turbojet propulsion business. She also served as VicePresident of Operations and Vice President of Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety,and Achieving Competitive Excellence for UTC’s Carrier Corporation, as well as forPratt & Whitney. Prior to joining UTC, Ms. Drake managed production operationsat both the Ford Motor Company and Visteon Corporation where she was Ford’sproduct line manager for steering systems and plant manager of Visteon’s fuel systemoperation. During her military career, Ms. Drake served on active duty for seven yearsas a U.S. Army aviator and airfield commander of Davison Army Airfield in Fort Belvoir,Virginia. She is a distinguished military graduate of the U.S. Army Aviation OfficerSchool. She received a Master of Business Administration from Butler University anda Bachelor of Arts from The College of New Rochelle. She also holds commercialand private pilot’s licenses in both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.5

The extendeddeadline is March 31, 2017.1 The Von Braun Center has plentyof parking in designated areas.There is a 5 fee for parking at theVBC. For more info, directions andparking information,vonbrauncenter.com/directions2 Purchase academic regalia from theUAH Bookstore. Don’t forget toremove the regalia from the packagingand let hang so that wrinkles areremoved prior to ceremony. White or lightcolored shirts are also suggested.3 Please give personal items, i.e. phone,purse, coat, etc., to your family priorto entering the student robing areaor lock them securely in your vehicle.The student robing area is not securedduring the ceremony. If you must keepelectronic devices with you during theceremony, please set them to silent,so as to not disturb the ceremony.

STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS //FOR THE ACTUAL CEREMONY1 When you arrive at the student robingarea, you will be given a card withyour name, marching order number,degree and honor information –DO NOT LOSE THIS CARD! Thiscard is your ticket to process acrossthe stage. Also, please do not bendthe card. It has been coded with yourinformation (name, etc.), so when youprocess across the stage allinformation will appear on theoverhead screens. If your card hashonors listed (summa, magna,cum laude), you will also be given aUniversity Honor Cord.2 You will be instructed to “find yourcollege line.” There will be staff onhand to assist you in finding the rightcollege line for the processional.3 You will process to the arena inalphabetical order within eachcollege/degree area.4 As you march in the processional,keep your place in line as assignedby the Commencement staff.5 When you have reached yourappropriate seat, REMAIN STANDINGuntil the entire processional party isin and the invocation is concluded.6 Caps (Mortarboards and Tams) are tobe worn at all times, with the exceptionthat men will remove their caps duringthe national anthem and invocation.Dr. Wren (Commencement Marshall)will announce the national anthemand introduce the minister. He willthen remove his cap as a signal toyou (“gentlemen, please removeyour caps”). Please remain standing,men with caps removed, until theinvocation is concluded and then beseated and replace caps.7 You will stand next when directed todo so by Provost Curtis, who willrecommend that degrees beconferred. President Altenkirch willverbally confer your degree. WhenPresident Altenkirch finishes hisstatement, you should change yourtassel from the right to the left(undergraduate students only),which indicates your degree hasbeen conferred. Then be seated.8 Follow the instructions of the floorstaff. The direction of the processionwill be from both sides of the stage.9 Two colleges will process to the stagesimultaneously. Remain in the correctmarching order, remember to bringyour “Card” to the stage and followany instructions given to you by staff.10 All students will exit the stage bythe center stairs.11 After exiting the stage, followdirections to the photography areabefore returning to your seat. Eachstudent will have a “posedphotograph” taken once the degreehas been conferred and he/she hasprocessed across the stage.12 Return to your seat and celebratewith other candidates as theyprocess across the stage.11

GUEST INSTRUCTIONS //DAY OF THE CEREMONY1 Guests should be directed to thePropst Arena; doors will open at1:00 p.m. Due to lack of space inthe student robing area, family andfriends are not permitted in that area.2 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)Compliance. The Von Braun Centeris ADA compliant. As new standardsare introduced, VBC has implementedthose changes or upgrades in atimely manner. However, due toa limited number of compliant seatsin the arena, guests who are mobilityimpaired may not be able to sit withmore than one or two family membersin the designated ADA sections.Additional ADA seating will beavailable on the floor as well.3 Photography: The CommencementCommittee has arranged to haveZAP Photography at the ceremonyto take high quality photographsof each candidate as they receivehis/her diploma. Members of theaudience are asked not to standat the rail to take pictures sinceit may obscure the view of others.4 To maintain the dignity and decorumof the Commencement ceremony,we ask that everyone remain throughthe entire ceremony.5 Do you need information about theCity of Huntsville? Contact the Deanof Student’s Office at 256.824.6700or Charger Union, Room 223, on theUAH campus for tourism packets.PHOTOGRAPHERThe Commencement Committee has arranged to have ZAPPhotography at the ceremony to take high-quality photographsof each candidate as he/she receives the diploma. Proofs willbe sent to you within seven days after Commencement. Thereis no obligation to purchase the finished prints. Orderedprints will be delivered within thirty days of the deadline printedon order card. ZAP photography is the only photographerauthorized by UAH to send photographs to the graduates.zapfoto.comFLOWERS AND CLASS T-SHIRTMake this special occasion memorable by pre-ordering flowersand a class T-shirt for your graduate. Commencement Flowerswill be at the ceremony for you to pick-up orders or purchaseflowers. For more information, please visit their website lle.12

HONORS //UAH HONOR CORDSUNDERGRADUATESFor those undergraduates who areeligible, cords have been purchasedby the University and will be availableat the Von Braun Center during therobing process.Graduation with honors at thebaccalaureate level requires a minimumof 60 semester hours at UAH. Honorswill be determined by the grade-pointaverage for the last 60 semester hoursof coursework taken at UAH or theoverall GPA for all coursework takenat UAH, whichever is higher. Theacademic terms containing the last60 hours of coursework taken at UAHwill be identified, and the GPA of allUAH courses taken during those termsto satisfy graduation requirements willbe computed and the honors will bedetermined as follows:Notice: Honors indicated in the programare based on grades for semesterscompleted prior to the last semester.Actual honors for all completed workwill be subsequently calculated andwill appear on the official transcriptand diploma.If the GPA computed as above is3.90 or above, the student graduatessumma cum laude.If the GPA computed as above is3.70 or above (but below 3.90), thestudent graduates magna cum laude.If the GPA computed as above is3.40 or above (but below 3.70),the student graduates cum laude.SCHOOL OF GRADUATE STUDIESGraduate students should not wearhonor cords. The hood adorned withthe college colors represents theiracademic accomplishments recognizedby the university.Graduation honors are not bestowedupon students receiving Masters orDoctoral degrees; therefore graduatedegree recipients do not receive or wearhonor cords.13
