No one appears to have connectedthe dots factually, and it’s unclear whetherthey will. The Internal Revenue Service has amajor role in carrying out the health carelaw, because financial assistance to helpthe uninsured afford coverage will be funneled through the tax system. At the sametime, the IRS is also responsible for penalties on individuals and employers who failto comply with the law’s requirements. But the really tantalizing connectionis that a former head of the office thatsubjected tea-party groups seeking taxexemptions to tougher scrutiny is nowrunning the tax agency’s division in chargeof implementing the health care law. That official apparently switched rolesbefore internal alarm bells went off aboutthe problem. But feed all that into today’sfrenzied world of online speculation, andred-meat associations are irresistible. In Saturday’s weekly GOP radio andInternet address, Maryland Rep. AndyHarris tried to make the connection.“If we’ve learned anything this week,IRS continued on 3ALocalGiving her final lessonsjoblessrate dipsin AprilFWHSgraduateslain inBrandonSmall drop maskssteady hiring byarea employers.Store video leadspolice to suspectin brutal stabbing.By AMANDA WILLIAMSONBy DEREK kecityreporter.comUnemploymentinColumbia County droppedapproximately two-tenthsof a percent during April, falling from 6.4 percent inMarch to 6.2 percent inApril.Despite the drop in thecounty unemployment figure, the local workforcealso dropped from 31,035 inMarch to 30,769 in April.Even though workforcenumbers are falling, DeniseWynne, lead employerservices representative atFlorida Crown WorkforceBoard, believes Florida andColumbia County are stillexperiencing job growth.“People are still looking for work, and we areplacing them in positionsdaily. Gilchrist County’srate was 5.5 percent, UnionCounty’s 5.6 percent andSuwannee County’s 5.7 percent.
