18ECO-DRIVINGEco-driving is a range of everyday practices that allow the motorist to optimise their fuelconsumption and CO2 emissions.Optimise the use of yourgearboxDrive smoothlyWith a manual gearbox, move off gentlyand change up without waiting. Duringacceleration change up early.Maintain a safe distance between vehicles, use engine braking rather than thebrake pedal, and press the acceleratorprogressively. These practices contributetowards a reduction in fuel consumption andCO2 emissions and also helps reduce thebackground traffic noise. With an automatic or electronic gearbox, give preference to automatic mode andavoid pressing the accelerator pedalheavily or suddenly. The gear shift indicator invites you engagethe most suitable gear: as soon as theindication is displayed in the instrumentpanel, follow it straight away. For vehicles fitted with an electronic orautomatic gearbox, this indicator appearsonly in manual mode.If your vehicle has cruise control, make useof the system at speeds above 25 mph(40 km/h) when the traffic is flowing well.Control the use of yourelectrical equipmentBefore moving off, if the passengercompartment is too warm, ventilate it byopening the windows and air vents beforeusing the air conditioning.Above 30 mph (50 km/h), close the windowsand leave the air vents open.Remember to make use of equipmentthat can help keep the temperature in thepassenger compartment down (sunroofand window blinds.).Switch off the air conditioning, unless ithas automatic regulation, as soon as thedesired temperature is attained.Switch off the demisting and defrostingcontrols, if not automatic.Switch off the heated seat as soon aspossible.Switch off the headlamps and frontfoglamps when the level of light does notrequire their use.Avoid running the engine before movingoff, particularly in winter; your vehicle willwarm up much faster while driving. As a passenger, if you avoid connectingyour multimedia devices (film, music, video game.), you will contribute towardslimiting the consumption of electricalenergy, and so of fuel.Disconnect your portable devices beforeleaving the vehicle.

19Observe the recommendationson maintenanceSpread loads throughout the vehicle; placethe heaviest items in the bottomof the boot, as close as possible to therear seats.Limit the loads carried in the vehicle andreduce wind resistance (roof bars, roofrack, bicycle carrier, trailer.). Use a roofbox in preference.Remove roof bars and roof racksafter use.Check the tyre pressures regularly, whencold, referring to the label in the dooraperture, driver's side.Carry out this check in particular:before a long journey,at each change of season, after a long period out of use.Don't forget the spare wheel and the tyreson any trailer or caravan. At the end of winter, remove snow tyresand refit your summer tyres.Have your vehicle serviced regularly(engine oil, oil filter, air filter, passengercompartment filter.) and observe theschedule of operations recommended in thewarranty and maintenance record. When refuelling, do not continue after thethird cut-off of the nozzle to avoid anyoverflow. At the wheel of your new vehicle, it is onlyafter the first 1 800 miles (3 000 kilometres)that you will see the fuel consumption settledown to a consistent average.FAMILIARISATIONLimit the causes ofexcess consumption1

20AccessACCESSREMOTE CONTROLCentral unlockingPress this button to unlock yourvehicle, cab and rear doors. The direction indicators flashtwice and the door mirrors unfold(unless folding was selected using theinterior control, refer to the "Mirrors andwindows" section of chapter 3).Central lockingFolding / unfolding the keyPress this button to lock yourvehicle, cab and rear doors. The direction indicators flashonce and the door mirrors fold.If one of the doors is open or is not closedcorrectly, the central locking will not work.Press this button to release thekey from its housing. To fold the key, press thechromed button then fold the keyinto the housing. If you do not press thebutton, the mechanism may be damaged.DeadlockingGood practiceIf your vehicle is fitted with deadlocking, asecond press on the closed padlock onthe remote control within five seconds afterlocking changes the locking to deadlocking. This is confirmed by fixed lighting of thedirection indicators for approximately twoseconds.Deadlocking renders the exterior and interiordoor opening handles inoperative: do notleave anyone inside the vehicle when it isdeadlocked. If deadlocking is activated from inside thevehicle, it will change to normal lockingwhen the vehicle is started.Take care not to allow the remote control tocome into contact with grease, dust, rain ora damp environment.A heavy object attached to the key(key ring, .) weighing on the shaft of thekey in the switch, may cause a malfunction.

Switch on the ignition.Press the locking padlock for at least fiveseconds within the next ten seconds.Switch off the ignition.Wait at least one minute before using theremote control. The remote control is now working again.21AccessKEYThis locks and unlocks the doors on thevehicle, opens and closes the fuel filler cap,as well as starting and stopping the engine.REMOTE CONTROLChanging the batteryBattery ref.: CR1620 / 3 volts. The "battery flat" information is given by anaudible signal, accompanied by a messagein the screen. To replace the battery, unclip the casingusing a coin at the ring.If the remote control does not work after thebattery has been changed, reinitialise theremote control. There is a risk of damage if the replacementbattery is not the correct type.Use only identical batteries or batteries of anequivalent type to those recommended byPEUGEOT dealers.Do not discard the remote control batteries, they contain metals which are harmful to theenvironment.Deposit them at a PEUGEOT dealership, orat an authorised collection point.Reinitialising the remote controlFollowing changing of the remote control batteryor disconnection of the vehicle battery, the remotecontrol may have to be reinitialised.Wait at least one minute before using the remotecontrol.Insert the key in the ignition switch with the buttons(padlocks) of the remote control facing you.All of the keys contain an electronicimmobiliser device. This device locks the engine supply system. It is activated automatically when the key isremoved from the ignition. After the ignition is switched on, a dialogueis established between the key and theelectronic immobiliser system. The metal part of the key must be unfoldedcorrectly for correct dialogue to take place. If you lose your keysVisit a PEUGEOT dealer with thevehicle's V5 registration document andyour identification document.A PEUGEOT dealer will be able to retrievethe key code and the transponder code sothat a replacement key can be ordered.READY TO SET OFFELECTRONIC IMMOBILISER2

22AccessGood practiceDisarmingDo not make any modifications to theelectronic immobiliser system.Operating the remote control, even when itis in your pocket, may result in involuntaryunlocking of the doors. The simultaneous use of other highfrequency equipment (mobile telephones, domestic alarms ), may interfere with theoperation of the remote control temporarily. The remote control does not operate whilethe key is in the ignition, even if the ignitionis off.-When purchasing a second-hand vehicle:have the keys memorised by aPEUGEOT dealer to ensure that thekeys in your possession are the onlyones which can start the vehicle. When leaving the vehicle, check that the lamps areoff and nothing of value isvisible. As a safety precaution (withchildren on board), removethe key from the ignitionwhen leaving the vehicle, even for a short time.Unlock the vehicle with the remotecontrol or switch on the ignition, the redLED goes off.Locking the vehicle with exteriorprotection onlyALARMIf fitted on your vehicle, this provides twotypes of protection:exterior protection: it sounds if a front/rear door or the bonnet is opened.interior protection: it sounds ifthe volume inside the passengercompartment changes (breaking ofa window or a movement inside thevehicle).Locking the vehicle with completealarmSetting the alarm-Switch off the ignition and get out of thevehicle.Set the alarm within five minutes ofgetting out of the vehicle, by locking ordeadlocking using the remote control. The red LED, located on the centreconsole, flashes once per second. If, while you are away from the vehicle, youwish to leave a window partially open or apet inside the vehicle, you should chooseexterior protection only.Switch off the ignition.--In the next ten seconds, pressthis button, located on thecentre console, until the redLED is on continuously.Get out of the vehicle.Within the next five minutes, set thealarm by locking or deadlocking usingthe remote control (the red LED flashesonce a second).

TriggeringMalfunctionThe siren sounds, the direction indicatorsflash for approximately 30 seconds and thered LED flashes rapidly. To switch it off, insert the key and switchon the ignition. When the alarm has been triggered tentimes in succession (when triggered for theeleventh time) it is deactivated. Repeat theprocedure for setting the alarm. When the ignition is switched on, if thered LED remains on for ten seconds, thisindicates a fault with the siren connection.Have the system checked by a PEUGEOTdealer or a qualified workshop.Insert the key in the lock on the driver'sdoor and lock it.Do not set the alarm when washing yourvehicle.Failure of the remote controlWhen the alarm is set but the remote controldoes not operate:Unlock the doors with the key and openthe door.
